Excellent video! I picked up a 93 F150 XLT about 2 months ago. Slowing going thru it to update/repair/modernize the truck. This is going to be a huge help with the tailgate!
Nicely thought out fitting kit with that. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade, the way the tailgate normally drops is really jarring if you don’t have hold of it. Another good tailgate update is a tailgate lock on the lift-out side of the hinges. I picked one up on clearance at a parts store recently. With these tailgates rusting out and being so easy to remove, theft of them is going to become a thing, if it isn’t already. 👍🏻
@@Aidencmz Just Google ‘tailgate lock’ several will come up. It’s the kind that wraps around the lift out end of the tailgate hinge to stop it being lifted out by thieves. Looks a bit like a padlock. Available online or in some parts stores, depending on where you live.
Mine came in and when I installed it the bottom of the piston keeps popping off. After a few more try's I noticed it was hitting the hump on the tailgate that comes in contact with the rubber guide I removed as you did in the video. For visual clarification it is hitting the part to the right of your finger at 2:39 in your video. What am I doing wrong, I'm sure its simple and I'm just not seeing it.
The assist doesn’t support the tailgate. The cables on either side of the tailgate still do that. I’ve had it installed on my truck since early summer with no issues.👌
@@TheMinuteMasters off topic. Do you know the torque specs of 2wd driveshaft to rear axle? Haynes says 90-110 ft lbs but I find it hard to believe its that tight. I found lots of forums saying hand tight plus a little more or 26 ft lbs. Concensus seems to be haynes had a typo.
Nice video love the assist. The cost is not 45 dollars. The kit you have is 75 dollars plus shipping unless theu are offering a discount code not listed. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man!🤙 $45 was the bare (no powder coat) kit. This video sold enough of these for his supply to run out. His new. Supplier for the assist was more expensive. He messaged me about it because he was concerned.
@@TheMinuteMasters Took your word for it and ordered one. Just got mine in the mail. One of the mounts (top mount) was not powder coated and looks like they went up another ten dollars to 85 for the powder coating. Paid 75 (before they went up in price) for this to be power coated and only get half of it powder coated. Good product yet it sells elsewhere for less, now you might get it from china paying that low. Just sn info post on whet I got from them....oh and I got no sticker! :( (lol joking bout the sticker though ya no sticker) So to recap - $75.00, half powder coated, and ....no sticker :) ...Oh and they went up to $85.00 now.
I saw another kit that helps on the way up. Someone on Instagram is running both kits at the same time and it’s awesome. Can you show us how to do that?
love what you did there and i remember you had changed out your tail gate at one time. would you recommend this with the original tail gate as heavy as it is? it looks like that shock would wear out quite fast.
I just emailed the site regarding the one linked, and he replied saying he is positive it will NOT work, but is working on one for OBS Broncos. Really want one.
Oh that is slick. Definitely getting this. I could literally watch this all day.
Yup!🤙
Great Video! FYI, you can remove that rubber bumper from the inside if you take the taillight off, it's just a couple screws.
Thanks man!🤙 Good to know! I’ll have to check that out. I hate seeing the mounting plate still there.
The starters aren’t to bad on it. Thanks for the simple video.
Thanks man!🤙 that’s a trailer video for the one that premieres tomorrow at 5:30

Love my 96 f150. Going to be getting this at some point
You’ll love it!
Installed one on the driver side like in your video. Works good. Thinking one on the otherside also might be great!
Nice! That would be cool to try.
New subscriber here you have a lot good videos on your F150
I just picked up a 1994 F150 5.0 stick shift.
Thanks man!🤙 I appreciate it.
Nice! Very similar to my truck aside from manual transmission.

It definitely is!
Oh for sure! Tailgates are hard to come by now.
theft of these gates have been going on for decades. Your talking $500+ used

Definitely ordering one.
Too good not to buy right!👌

I wish you had a video on how to replace head gaskets.
Ah! That’s a good one. Well if I do any top end work, I’ll be sure to film it.

Do you have the assist mechanism installed in the correct orientation? Otherwise, I’m not sure what is causing that.
Anyone install one on each side of the tailgate? A left and right?
This is awesome
Thanks man!
I need a new latch, have to fanagle it to get it to stay open so i can close the tailgate.
Ah! Yes, the end latches are probably bad.
Mine got quite a bit better after I hit everything with pb blaster and worked it. Worth a shot anyway.
Hummmm wonder if you upgrade to a bigger shock can it be used on OBS Broncos if it fit under the wiring harness
Probably. Definitely worth investigating
Great install man! I'm planning on doing mine soon. What tonneau cover is that?
It’s a soft rolling tonneau by Truxedo. I did a video on it a while back.
Does the strut make it harder to put the tailgate back up?
Not really.
Sweet
Does it rattle more without the rubber piece?
I haven’t noticed any rattling.
Can u use a ordinary rivet gun
Like a pop rivet gun?
@ Yes
@@cyclonekevin6199 Unfortunately no. It's a special tool that installs rivet nuts.
@ Thanks
This seems like a great mod. My only concern if it can handle sitting on the tailgate and still work months down the road. Cool upgrade though.

@@aber1711 The four bolts that secure the drive shaft to the axle pinion, I tightened to 90 Ft lbs per Haynes manual. 26 ft lbs seems very light.
Will this work on 79 ford truck?
Good question! I don’t know. If the tailgate is similar are there mounting holes are in the same locations, I don’t see why not.

Would you recommend putting one on either side? Or would one be enough?
One is definitely enough. I don’t think it’s a universal side. I think it only fits the side I installed it on.

will this work on a obs ford bronco??
