Aw that’s a sad ending. It makes sense tho. Hyacinths fate was always to die, all Sage did was postpone it, and that put her through so much pain. She was holding on to a fantasy when she had to face reality, let hyacinth go, and move on.

Rin ❤️ I totally wasn’t expecting to cry watching this video but HERE WE ARE. I think this is a really beautiful metaphor for grief. Especially how someone can retreat into themself so much that the world seems to pass by without them. I felt that in my bones. The optimist in me wants the story to end happily, and the essence of Hyacinth transfers into the cat (maybe the original cat gets banished by the bird or something). But the realist in me thinks the ending is really beautiful as it is, and really packs an emotional punch. Man. This video really got to me, but in the best way. I hope you’re doing okay and I am ALWAYS here if you need to talk. Love you Rin ❤️

I wrote a little descriptive piece from Hyacinth's perspective:
Sweat gathers in beads where my freshly cut hair meets my pale skin; all eyes are on me. My eyes dart frantically from side to side, scanning the crowd. It's useless but I'd feel guilty not to try. Familiar faces fill the room, yet I'd give anything for them to leave. I force a smile: it's so obviously fake. My cheeks flush crimson red as they start the chant, to wish me well on my 18th birthday. I blow out the candles, but my vision is blurred, as I fail to hold back the tears. Sage. Sage. Sage. My mind spins and my heart throbs because all I can think about is my sister. Sage. Sage. Sage. You'd expect me to have moved on by now, but that'd be a complete and utter betrayal. I yearn for her return every night, but on this day, my birthday, I need her more than ever.
I just wrote this about Hyacinth at her birthday party, when she's missing sage. It took me a little while, but I had an English assessment today and I still feel pretty creative. Hope you liked it Rin!😊💜

I think you should go with a bittersweet ending. After Hyacinth sacrifices herself to reverse the spell, the cat could turn white again because when it originally darkens it is because of resentment, but now it has been reversed. Another thing is that I noticed how the state of Sage's hair kind of represented her inner turmoil as the story progressed. At the beginning it was glossy and straight; as a teen when she's distressed and suffering from all the stars, you added this more scruffy and tangled outcrop of side bangs; and when Hyacinth visits her as an adult and finds her in this deep stage of neglect, her hair's overgrown and covering her eyes. That's why it would be neat if after the spell is taken back her hair returns to being silky and ironed. But anyway, that way it shows that things are better now and there's all that light, but also its a bit tragic. The kind of scene where if it were a movie, there would be slow but uplifting music and light spilling in from one corner over Sage's face, she's crying, slowly picks up the fedora off of Hyacinth's crumpled figure and places it on her head then smiles slightly through her tears, yada yada, end credits.

I love this story. I didnt think about it till hearing the ending. But other than magic I think the reason it resonates, is because I lost my sister on 29th December 2019. Not to covid. She was 25. This year has been so difficult. I had my first birthday without her this october. I'm now 31. My birthday without my sister wasnt the same.
Leah passed out of the blue. We all thought she just had the flu or sickness bug. Turns out she had pneumococcal pneumonia and ketoacidosis. She had two cardiac arrests. The last one she didnt survive. Drs worked hard to bring her back for 45mins. She had so many wires i think 18 in total. So they couldnt use the machine paddle to bring her back. They had 15 people taking turns doing CPR and adrenaline etc. But nothing. The Ketoacidosis and pneumonia had ruined her organs. None us knew she was so poorly. She didnt either.
She left behind my nephew and niece. My nephew was 3 at the time and my niece 1.
It sucks so much. My sister was classed as disabled anyhow she didnt have a life without pain. But to go the way she did. I hate it.

It’s true you don’t really “move on” so to say, but you do kind of... get past it, in a way, where it’s not as saddening anymore. It still hurts sometimes, and memories can be painful, but you keep going. You let yourself be sad but you don’t wallow in it forever, you make sure you pick your head back up at some point and keep going because you know sitting in your sorrow like that won’t do you any good.
    For me at least,
Sad thoughts aside, I really like this story and how you illustrated it and I’m glad you shared it with us.❤️ Now maybe I’ll go have some waffles... 🧇

Sage loved Hyacinth so much that she gave up part of herself everyday to keep her alive. Indirectly, the same would of happened everyday if Sage never did anything. She would lose herself as she saw the one thing she cared about most be lost to an illness. Sage made a sacrifice for Hyacinth, and she showed her she loved her, but she never said what she did. Hyacinth ended up "dying" because she wanted to save her sister, all without knowing what she did all of those years before. This shows the love that all of us want and want to give, but not all give and receive.
Thank you for sharing this story with us, Rin. It shows us how much we love each other, even if we don't know it.

Hyacinthas died after getting hit in the head by a metal frisbee (I forgot the actual name). Apollo turned Hyacinthas into a flower after he died to preserve his beauty. Creating the Hyacinth!

I lost my dad 5 years ago. I've found that it never does go away, you just learn to co-exist with the grief. It just becomes another part of you that you carry with you. I liken it to having grown an extra limb that hurts at times... sometimes you have to push through the pain of it and other times you need to sit and massage it to ease the hurting a little, sometimes it's more _there_ than others and sometime you almost forget it wasn't always there for a while until something reminds you. It never fully goes, that extra limb is yours for good now. I think it's important to sometimes stop and acknowledge it too, whether that's looking at a pic and having a cry or reminiscing about a shared memory, that sort of thing. I started a memory book not long after my dad died (I was so afraid I'm forget things about him) and sometimes I would just write the one word that summed up something other times I would write it out in detail, sometimes it makes me cry and others it makes me smile (albeit sadly)
I'm so sorry that you're experiencing losing someone, it really sucks. I'm not sure I would say it gets easier, you mostly just get used to the hurt being there. Sending virtual hugs if welcome.

It reminded her that she has to live everyday like it’s her last because it very well could be . It reminded her to be grateful to be able to spend time with her loved ones. It reminded her of the sacrifices that she went through to see her sister live another day but in the end she couldn’t save her because life is so fragile and once it breaks it’s gone forever and you can’t make deals with life and death.
It’s bittersweet but so so heartbreaking .
Edit- it also reminds her to move on but the stars remains on her body symbolizing she never fully moves on .

I absolutely loved the story and this type of video. The dark, sad tone of the story surprised me because it contrasts with your light-hearted usual type of video, but don't get me wrong, I loved how heavily emotional it is. I think it says a lot about grief and about how we have to learn to let go even when we dont want to. I also thought the sort of circular aspect of it was very interesting, how both in the beginning and in the end it's just Sage and the cat, but it does show how her experiences with her sister have changed her, which is shown by the tattoos. Also these videos really inspired me to continue developing a story that i started thinking about, so thank you for that! I'd love to see more of these characters in other videos and the video about fashion that you mentioned would be awesome!

Has so many thoughts but I just pictures the ending as:
_A crisp fall morning, leaves the colors of fire start to fall from their branches as Sage watches and drinks her tea. It's been months since she last saw her sister. She lightly smiles as she reminisces her memories, at times finding herself holding back tears. She comes to when she feels a soft nudge to her arm and sees her cat.
She gives him a pat. "Good morning-" she starts, pauses at a realization, then slightly chuckles as she continues, " why, I never gave you a name! What should it be?" She lingers on with her question though she already knows the answer.
"Come now. We have a lot to do today, Hyacinth." She smiles at the cat as it jumps onto her shoulder...._
(Though I don't think the name should be Hyacinth. More on the lines of Hyacinth favorite toy's name or something more sentimental.)

Rin, I totally agree with you. Losing a loved one is difficult and the grief comes in waves. You don’t ever “get over it.” With each trial and loss you face in life you can choose to survive it, or learn from it, or even help others through trials of their own. I lost my baby 4 yrs ago when he was 2 months old. He would have been 4 yrs old this past Sunday. Sometimes I am back in survival mode when them pain is so hard to endure, but sometimes I am learning about how to dance in the rain and not take things for granted. My best times are when I am able to reach out and serve and bless others and lift them up. I wouldn’t be able to reach others in the same way had I not lost my son. I think that is why I find your story so beautiful, it is through the hard times and not the happy endings that we grow. If life were full of happiness all the time, what would there be to make us stretch out of our comfort zone? How would we grow? So grateful for you and your channel! Thank you Rin!

I am so sorry for your loss, Rin. It really hurts now, it will still hurt in the future, but remember, it does get better. I like the idea of the cat being blonde like Hyacinth in the end. omg is it just me or whatever because I thought at the end it would go a little something like this:
The room screeches with an eerie silence. My mind clears and feels like its mine again. My bring my hands to my eyes to feel my skin returning to its original youthness. I feel this burst of adrenaline coursing through my veins and I realize its not adrenaline at all. Its strength, its power, its...her. The thought of her jerks my head up, looking at her crumpled state is enough to make me cry, but this newfound strength stops me. I crawl over to her, but fail after many attempts. Then I feel something soft and fluffy graze my left arm. I look over to see a black cat hooking under my arm, bearing some of the weight. Its matted, dark fur almost resembles the color of my many star tattoos, freckling my body. A light chuckle escapes my mouth, very unlike the moment but needed. With the cat, I slowly make my way to Hyacinth. But even before I reach her an indescribable light bursts from the ground blinding me. I use my forearm to cover my eyes, unyielding myself to this surge of energy. By the time the light dies down, I see young Hyacinth again, standing there soaking up her glory. With her flowered dress and quaint hat, she looked so innocent, despite the past few years we shared. I feel every pang of guilt and pain melt away in that moment. Then just as all stories have to come to an end ours does. Her glory on her face disappears, and is replaced with a knowing look that stretches into a smile. She rushes to the ground where I lay and pummels me with an enormous hug. No words are needed in this moment, as no apologies or admitting of fault are. Oh, Hyacinth how-a loud groan interrupts my thought. She shudders, almost falling away from my greedy arms. I catch her in time to look up at her tear-streaked face. But in the light of all that is Hyacinth, she finds it in her to smile back at me. Her big doe-like eyes. She looks down at the back of her hand, pulling back her long sleeve to reveal my greatest fear. Not of my death, not of the end of the world or an apocalypse, no of something much worse.
    Hyacinth
"Sage?" I saw with a shaky voice. "Sage.." but my voice caught. I gulp. "Oh my sweet sister Sage, why is there a star on my hand?

This is truly a beautiful story and very well thought out. From my own experience with the grief stages. I lost a friend six years ago but you never do move on. You still keep their memory and it keeps them alive because you care and love them so much. I really love this story, amazing job Rin. It truly is beautiful. 🙂🤗 I hope you are okay.

Dang, this story is amazing...After reading the last few sentences in the description, it brought back some memories from last December. I didn’t expect to cry, but sleep deprivation and grief decided that I should cry. I’m slow to getting to the “learning to accept death and learning how to continue on”. I still can’t look at pictures of the family I’ve lost, say their names, or even think about them without getting really sad and starting to cry. People around me say that I shouldn’t cry for them, that they’d rather see me be happy and live my life, but there are moments, days, weeks, months that are hard to get through. I don’t know how I’m going to get through the days that they died.

Hey Rin, hope you're okay. Grief sucks but you handled the topic so well... It reminded me of the coping with death children's books I read when I was a kid- would LOVE to see you make something like that out of these characters with the scenes you described as illustrations 💕

I loved this video :) as you yourself prefer doing sketches, not the finished pieces, I loved see you doodling and just telling a story. What is in your mind. It was a little bit like a story board episode with the artist XD I'd like to see more of this content! And then maybe some finished artworks after you told the story 😇

This is a beautiful analogy for grief. Grief is something you learn to live with . We do heal but not without damage and scars. Thanks for sharing a little bit of what you are going through with us.

Excited to see what happens next!
Also, i feel the chilly environment thing, I'm currently inside a blanket tent, wish i could get out to get my sketchbook but it's basically a tundra out there
The ending actually really reminds me of the book We Were Liars, it's set up differently but it has the same impact but with ghosts

I cried so much at the end TvT
It reminds me of my personal life there at the end, and it's just really beautiful but also painfull?
Such a wonderfull story and it's TRUE that you learn to move forward and live with the fact that you have to go on without them...
Learning how to let go and understanding it's not your fault even though it might feel that way. T^T♡
Thank you again for the amazing story and art as always, I really enjoyed it and it's making me remember all types of stuff in a good way, also with my grieving and such.
    So thank you ♡♡

As much as I would love a happy ending, I feel like it's a disservice to Rin and her inspiration from her own grief. It's a very human thing to process grief, so I love the idea that life isn't always happy but we have to make the most of every day!

This story resonates with me a lot, having lost someone very dear to me this past summer. It’s true that you can’t forget the past, but you can carry the memories of those you love with you, and try to make yourself better for their sake. So thank you so so much for sharing this, it was a beautiful story with a beautiful message (and some beautiful illustrations lol).
