7:35 “fit inside the mass, not inside the box (because it’s limiting)” - this is so accurate!
As a beginner I understand that I need to simplify things at first. But then I always trying to FIT the complex shape in the simplified one, and I end up with even more difficulties. So yeah, this advice was brilliant!

Hi Janos! I have been drawing for many years now as a hobby and I am not very good with heads. I manage but it’s pretty inconsistent.
I mostly used the loomis method and it was fine and all. Recently I started to construct characters with perspective and basic forms but really applying myself. I used to do it very quickly and messing up ellipses and saying “aaah it’s good enough!”
Turns out it wasn’t. So I started to really apply myself with the 3d forms (I don’t know the exact reason that made me change my mind) and I started breaking down heads and using your box method and man does it make a difference! Omg. So yeah I used to think it doesn’t work but of course I was doing it sloppily. Now I changed my mind!
I imagine that with practice you start seeing form better and you break down more and more in your head which is what we see with professional artists. It’s fascinating. So thank you :)

Hm well it is there to think about the mass of form. Because we try to create more complex geometry out of a simple box in order to carve out a head shape. Thinking about these basic geometry forms will enable us at some point to draw the same mass from every angle.

Yes, of course. The first thing you have to do is master the basic shapes. Draw a ton of cubes, cylinders and other shapes. You can then shape these as you wish.
Next you learn "gesture" drawing, along with proportions (from Michael Hampson, for example).
Then you continue with anatomy. What I also like to do: If I can't draw a certain area of the body, I focus on that area for dozens or hundreds of drawings (for example: 100 drawings of hands or forearm or both)
You can really practise this for months/years. Just don't give up!
If you keep at it, you will see quick results. And don't cut out a page of your sketchbook, even if they look like shit 😅 to see your success. You can even mark and label things that really bother you. Keep at it and have fun

Is there perhaps a repository for different expressions and facial features across ethnicities, ages, body types etc? Basically something like the 100 faces challenge (we did the exact same) but…more, and for the kind of exercise you suggest here.
Of course I do try to search for it on my own, but Pinterest and the internet in general try a bit too much to “guess” what people like and want, and you end up with mostly young, levigated Caucasian and Asian women, a few young handsome Caucasian men and K-pop idols, and if you specifically search for another specific group you end up with what Pint/Google thinks you want (so only young attractive black men if you search for black men, etc). Sure, I could keep narrowing my search parameters, and I do, but with the incredible variety there is there are surely things I’m missing, forgetting to search, searching more/less often than others or straight up don’t know they exist…hair is another one: I also struggle with lazy hair, but then I think about it and realize most subjects I find have the same few sets of hair that are simply different lengths/comvinations of the same two or three types of hairstrands. No wonder I get bored with it and just lazily outline the volume…

I am close to just giving upp. 10 months of my life and it feels like everything i make thats okay is just luck. I just drew a super hero chick and i liked the end results. But i didnt incorporate any of the styles that i have tried to copy or study. Its like i just got lucky and the face was more comic book when i am more of a semi realism mixed with anime guy. I feel like every time i make a good drawing the style is always inconsistent and off. Its just strange. I want to draw cool stuff but i am just so dumb and i am also autistik so i have a hard time focusing on the important stuff that i know that i need to learn. 10 months of my life and i feel like its been wasted.

Dear sir, kindly don't mistake me i love❤drawings... But sometimes
people⚠️ would say... Art 🎨is for
    kids ... Not for adults!
    Some another people⚠️ say
Dear artist👨‍🎨 camera invention already done by engineers..
No ❌need to draw... Don't spend more time Just click photo📷.... So
Tell me sir...how to take criticism like this??? 😢

    • @Janos.Artzone
      @Janos.Artzone  9 месяцев назад +2

Well somebody who say art is for kids I would point to all the art created in the renaissance by Michelangelo, rafael or davinci. I would point to the Hudson River school or to the great times of the Impressionism like monet and many others. I would suggest open up their horizon and educate about this world because without art this world would be plain. A camera is just a technique of a reflection, but art can be the reflection of the human soul and much more. I don’t see any criticism in these statements only sadness of not knowing the beauty of our world. This person has clearly no clue what they are missing but it also not ur job to educate them. 🫶🏻
