You know how cats dramatically move their heads when something in front of them is moving really fast? That’s how I look as I watch Waffles’ hands go S W IS H and SW O O S H.
Perhaps try standing in front of a long mirror and slowly moving around, watch how the cloth moves and folds with different poses. I do this sometimes when I'm trying for a very particular pose
Right now I'm studying drapery in art school. My professor is having us draw Greek and Roman statues because they wore robes with tons of folds. They were also completely on point when it comes to anatomy. That's helped me level up in a short amount of time. I would recommend googling Amazone du Vatican by Francesco Saverio Quatrano. That's a good place to start with drapery. Hope that helps!
I think the issue you're having with the cat not looking cat-ish is the ears, they don't really separate from the head as much as you're doing them so I think that's why its reading more squirrel/dog-like. (EDIT: I think in the final you got the ear shape! My comment was during your sketches still :) ) I'm not sure the best way to explain through text. Try having the ears fully connect to the head more like a solid triangle, instead of the trapezoid-ish shape you're getting right now - like at the base of the ears where the ears meet the head it should be more of a straight shot to the tips of he ears on both sides. The inner corners of the ears have too much of kind of an indent at the base if that makes sense? Hope this helps, this is meant to be constructive criticism please don't take it as judgement!
