- ‘You don’t know my name, so how can you tell me I have an open warrant?’ - This Harris County, Texas officer tried to arrest a Black father in front of his own home after incorrectly identifying him as a suspected criminal from another state.

In Harris County Texas news today, a police officer arrested the wrong man and it was all caught on camera. In this example of racial profiling, Harris County law enforcement approached a Black father outside his home mistaking him for a suspected criminal from Louisiana. Police officers getting owned is not a common sight but these cops (Harris country Texas) were wrong this time. One could argue that this racial profiling short film shows that Black lives matter and more law enforcement training is need to eradicate police bias.

@Krakenborn654 Mr Evans took this to civil court. The judge said that Oficcer Lingley, should have arrested mr Evans, for fingerprints, Mr Evans looked liked the suspect Quintin Prejean, mr Evans refused to show id.

Kudos to this man for standing his ground.
And for the department to side with their officer here and do nothing about it after its all caught on video .... victim blaming this guy because he wouldn't show any ID. And, according to Texas.gov's website, it states: "Texas law only requires that you show your ID to a police officer under certain circumstances. These circumstances include: after you've been arrested, when you are driving, and when you are a License to Carry holder carrying a handgun." .... this dude was apparently sitting in his own front yard minding his own business when this cop rolled up. So legally he doesn't have to provide it.
Now - that doesn't mean he couldn't have just done so to get this assclown cop to leave him alone. lol I understand he felt it was within his right not to have to divulge that randomly for Barney Fife over here .... but I'd also weigh the ridiculousness and the headache this caused him! Not to mention the obvious too - being a black man in America in a confrontation with a cop!! 0_o
1,000 others who did what he did got arrested and prosecuted
If a police officer believes you are a wanted fugitive. Don’t become the “wanted fugitive” by REFUSING to identify yourself and get all belligerent instead
As a black South American man it always confuses me when I see how Americans purposely escalate simple situations into an arrest or a shootout. In South Africa if the Police or Traffic cops ask you for your ID you wip it out as fast as you can. They don't ask you twice, once is more than enough. I sometimes get it out before they even ask for it. It's called WISDOM and it's never let me down.

Are you kidding me rn?!" stupid comment that literally answered nothing.
Do you know what the scary part really is ....before the advent of the mobile phone all this would go on unknown and unrecorded
Advent?

Hope they don't take that away from you, here in my country it's illegal to film the police.

alex salunas please repeat what you said.
When Law Enforcement Officers ask me for my ID, I show them with confidence. I have nothing to hide.
Well you shouldn’t show them because there’s no reason to show when you are innocent.
@@suertiorI think showing your ID in order to avoid any further conflict would be a valid reason

It isn’t required but it makes things easier for both parties
Even myself living in the U.S., I just show it and let the worst case scenario lay to rest. There’s no reason to escalate an argument and get into a potential fight when you know you aren’t in the wrong. I understand people defend and exercise their rights, but some just don’t want to deal with the potential of a worst case scenario, even if you were in the right.
And he’s the supervisor I can imagine how’s the Rookie 😂
Notice how he kept touching, pulling him, hoping for a reaction so he could claim resistance or assault. Also trying to get him off his property. You have fewer rights in the public road than on your own property. Cop was total conniving snake here.
China is so much better than the usa. Many of Their police don’t even have guns and their charter is “protect the people” and not “law enforcement”.
Oh....if he would have happened to make just the wrong move. Or if that cop's wife had just cheated on him he would be the next dead black man. I'm black. I'm 40. The scariest demographic there is
@@allstarmark12345 I'm curious what China is like for the people that live there. Aside from American propaganda and a handful of RUclipsrs it's hard to get information. There are some very dystopian aspects, the great firewall and social credit scores, but I know there's more to it than that (meant positively).
@@allstarmark12345 Be careful what you wish for. I believe the charter in China is 'protect the system' and the people are not at all be seen as humans. Both countries are extremists when it comes to certain behavior.
When I see things like this happening I feel lucky living in the northern part of Europe, police mostly works on de-escalation of violence and protect the community by mutual respect. Cops aren't triggerhappy due guns are not allowed for the public and also don't need a reason to keep holding your arm like talking to little child, like this guy is doing.
@@lilacdoe7945 Teacher here, some of my best friends are in China and I'm hoping to move soon. I guess it depends where you go but they are having a blast, people are friendly and everything works well and effeciently. Cost of living is cheap as well.
People downplay how traumatic this is. Someone can just pull up to your house. Its crazy
Its not just *"someone"*
Its someone who supposed to be the *"shield"* for us. Which what makes it more scary. he's not shielding us but shooting at us instead, a supervisor at that. Wtf
yeah but when news makes it seem like this is a racial problem, nothing will get solved. this happens to me and I'm white, it's a joke that they say this has anything to do with the color of his skin.. actually in this case it is how he is acting, and you can have white skin and act like this, if you want to say this is black behavior, fine....
but this happens to white people and saying this is racial is not going to show the real problem.
@@seawaterjohnmiller7118
Well, to be fair, this scene if we look at it at the judge view, yes i do aggree that this is not a racial problem but more like an individual or a characteristics problem, which is, the cop behaviour is somewhat *"not"* at the level that one should have being an officer. Some people just doesnt have the quality to be a good cop kinda argument. Yeah i aggree.
But, at the same time, from the society viewpoint, its also being one of the main reason tho, i mean, this racial profiling thing among the cops. It certainly do and can happen to anybody, but often than not, just because *"not being white"* can cause u more problem than it should be. U shouldnt deny this reality. Coz it is so. Racial profiling is real. And thats a fact.
Like i said, being white doesnt makes u safe from these kinda scene but then its way too obvious the differences between a white and a black person in comparisson of getting one. I mean come on, black or brown man can easily being cuffed just by standing still in his own yard in a whites neighbourhood area. White people can just hit 911 and say *"theres a black man standing suspiciously infront of my house"* even tho that black man just stand still on his own property doing his bussines.. and for sure the police will cuff him up real quick. But its not the case for the white people tho?? No??
I mean come on, u will not see a video where a white man got denied to eat at any restaurant just because theyre white. But u will definitely see every now and then where blacks got treated bad, worst, inhumanely. Just because.
And that's a fact.
It's not "someone", it's the police.
I don't know, how it works in the USA, but normally, if someone is suspected to be a criminal, the police of course can come to his/her home to interview or even arrest him/her ...
But, first of all, there has to be a REASONABLE suspicion!
Gu Baby... it's very traumatic... I was shaking as I watched the video. The images and emotion in his and his wife's voices brought back an old surpressed child hood memory of my first experience with cops. In the 70's, I was about 15, 2 cops came to our house while we were in our yard and tried to arrest my 17 year old brother. My mom was crying and my Dad was trying to calmly (he was angry and scared) convince the cops they had the wrong person. The cops would not listen they just kept walking my brother toward the cop car. My sisters and I were all crying and scared too.
The cops had my 17 year old brother handcuffed and sitting in the squad car when my 20 year old brother came home. He suggested the cops run social security numbers using the first, last and middle names and quess what...the cops had the wrong person. I believe my older brother saved my 17 year old brother's life that day. (Why?) The cops were arresting my 17 year old brother because he had the same first and last
name as the person they were looking for...the suspect had MURDERED a cop. If my older brother would not have come to visit that day I don't think my 17 year old brother would have survived the trip to the police station. My point is..that the trauma will last a LIFETIME for the victim and the family.
That was scary to the max like a predator targeting you
He should have just shown his ID.
He didn't have to. He know his rights
Cops saying thery're "investigating the incident" is like having the robbers investigating the robbery.
@A for Carrot ignorant officer who should be ashamed and embarrass. do better. be better and errors like this won't occur so often. makes me wonder how this moron ever earned a promotion
And they are the robbers😂fr fr
how can it be that cops in the us still don't get the history and how they should crawl on the ground and be humble as the telescope (i know it's hubble)
😂
Coproaches are the BAD ones in our society.
Dude has a right to be mad! They violated his rights AND racially profiled him. I hope he sues them ....
Worst part about this is all most no one knows their rights as a citizen. At least this man knew what the cop did was wrong and illegal.
@@Reaper-ze6mk every single time someone always says this
@@Reaper-ze6mk cap, cop pulls up to black guy and says his dog isn't his he's obviously racist and doesn't like to see a black man happy with his dog and wifey, can u just be quiet because ur like 12 and don't know what ur talking about go to RUclips kids for kids below pg 13
Lets see what happened here.
#1. Cop sees a person that he believes matches the description of a wanted suspect. The wanted suspect is black, so the race fits. That is not racial profiling. You dont search for a black woman if the suspect is described as a white male, do you?
#2. The man escalates the situation by refusing to provide ID to an officer who has reasonable suspicion that he is the person he is looking for. Giving the officer the ID would eradicate that reasonable suspicion and end this contact in about two seconds. But no, he has to refuse and right it, even though it is a legal detention since the officer has RAS.
#3. The officer then cuffs him because he denied giving ID, which means he will be detained for further investigation since it is needed to determine if it the correct man.
#4. What on Earth is racist about detaining a person who is the same race, the same gender, the same build, the same hair, the same age, the same weight, the same general description? Who TF else would you look for?!
TL;DR The detention was legal. The man escalated the situation by refusing to identify himself and doing basically every single thing you aren't supposed to do including disobeying orders, resisting detention, among other things.
@@Reaper-ze6mk it wouldnt happen to someone was white... well cops are idiots it could happen but would be highly unlikely
