Unity URP VS HDRP - Which One Should I Use?

  • This video shows the difference between the Built-in render, the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) and the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) in Unity.
    It starts with the built-in renderer VS Scriptable Render Pipeline (SRP).
    Unity has a built-in renderer, which is the default renderer in the 3D template. It is a general-purpose renderer that cannot be optimised for each specific need to produce the best graphics.
    To fix this issue, Unity introduced Scriptable Render Pipeline (SRP). It is a feature that allows you to control rendering via C# scripts. Scriptable Render Pipeline is the technology behind the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) and the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) that are available in Unity templates.
    Conclusion:
    Unless you have a particular need to provide high-quality realistic renders for a scene, you are better off using the Universal Render Pipeline (URP).
    URP has many great features that are close to HDRP but optimised for better performance on all platforms.
    If you don’t have control over the art and design of the scene, and the scene render is significant to showcase the work, and cross-platform compatibility and performance are not an issue, then you could bring the scene to life with HDRP. This is particularly useful for showcasing architectural and automotive features.
