I've had some freakin phenomenal days on the water throwing football jigs... To date the biggest bag I've ever weighed in during a local tournament was on one it was just shy of 31lbs on Rayburn. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Wacked'em last week on a football jig, I like to slide it along like you first described and as it gets closer to the boat I'll pop it. Thanks for the tips
This is by far the best video on retrieves for football and casting jigs really well explained! This is how i have been doing it also for big pike here in The Netherlands. Only difference is i use thicker fluorocarbon between 0.75mm and 1mm thick, for the teeth of big pike. I still catch big perch this way in clear water and those are a lot like smallmouth bass over here
Matt since your on the staff at berkley I have a very serious question. Why trilene over vanish? I know the stats like vanish is suppose to be more limber and trilene has better knot strength but is it really worth spending the extra money for the trilene? And I tend to like a more supple limber line. Thanks for your videos and for answering all our questions.
Another way to get that action if you don’t have wobble heads is peg your weight and use a ringed EWG hook, that welded ring on the eye of the hook give that action. Just an idea
A guy on here puts jigs as one of 3 best lures ever. That depends on your skills and if you're fishing from a boat or shore. Wouldn't a fluke do the same thing with weights and still be a jerkbait? People are crazy my friend. You'll lose more fish and lures on jigs than anything. I have been on a boat in an illegal tournament. I should know. The better jigs are finessy. Still will lose fish and jigs. For $5 a piece, we need to fish smarter. Inflation tho. Not a fan of jigs. Put weights on any plastic and it becomes a jig. That's genius.
@wolverinex4243 Are you really trying to tell a pro bass fisherman that the opinion he shares with all of the other pros is wrong? Also, a fluke and a jig are nothing alike at all.
@@nwtreasure5983 Do you know how to read and think? I've said put a weight on any plastic and it becomes a jig. Do you want me to say "it becomes a better jig?" Do they not lose jigs and fish on every outing? Do they cost $5 a piece? GTFOHea with your bullshyt. I'm not teaching no pro. I'm enlighting you bums.

Heading out on a week long camping trip this weekend. You can bet I’ll be using lots of your tips and a lot of Core Tackle baits!
Good luck!
Thanks for the tips Matt, will try that next trip.
You bet!
Thank you for an excellent presentation on a lure that has yielded almost nothing; however, I use it and hope my luck will improve.
Good luck!

Wish we had mote rock in my area lakes. Mostly dragging a football jig thru the mud and muck if I fish it that way. Most of the time
Doesn’t have to be rock
Liked the tips Matt 👍
Glad to hear it!
Thank you. Sometimes I could add more slack when I pop.
Try it
Thanks man . 🙏💕
No problem 👍
Thanks Matt .

Do you ever trim the brushguards? I prefer to make the brushguatds softer most of the time unless its very heavy cover
Yep

I prefer the trilene 100% fluorocarbon it is the best blend IMO
My grandpa wouldn't use anything but trilene
I bet you catch some big flatheads fishing that way. My PB catfish came on apig and jig fishing the RipRap at the dam.
I have
You mentioned wobble head. Ya don't hear pros talk much about that technique. I'll bet you anything they're using it a lot. That thing catches them!!!
Yep
Tactical Bassin talk about it as one of their favourite techniques!

Howdy sir great video
Thanks for watching
The real secret is putting a 2.5 or 3 inch swimbait as a trailer on a finesse football jig.
Works great!
Dang!! Guess I was in the 90%. Lmao
haha
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
🍺👍.
thanks!
I thought it was 87.5% fished a football jig wrong
Depends on the poll haha
@@MattStefanFishing dang right it does...lol

A fluke with a weight is a COMPLETELY different presentation than a football jig or casting jig ...
