    Just started getting back into fishing and found your channel. Man, what a gold mine. There is so much knowledge in your videos. Have you considered writing a book? It wouldn't have to be anything fancy, just combine all of the different tips you have give in each of your videos into a "100 tips for fishing bass" or something along those lines. I would pay good money to have a cliff-notes version of all of your videos!

      FiredUp TV I feel your pain... when I first started jig fishing it was the hardest transition from a senko for me. Start off with finesse jigs and small trailers and it WILL increase the number of bites you get.

    i just started fishing football jigs in early august. after several videos on the technique, i got a 7'3 mh lew's tp1 rod with a 7.5:1 lews team lazer and a few SK football jigs in green pumpkin. My 1st football jig fish was 5.59 lbs followed by a 3lb spot, both on lake jordann in Alabama. Thanks for doing what you do.

    I am learning so much from your videos. I have really started to fine tune my set ups and how I fish certain lures and your videos make doing so alot easier. The other day i was fishing with a shaky head just twitching it on the bottom, popping it over rocks and it felt right and ended up catching one even though I was really just practicing my retrieves. Thanks for all the info!

    Gene, first and foremost, thank you so much for expanding my knowledge and arsenal in the bass fishing world. With the help of you and a few other RUclipsrs, I have learned so much.
    Second, my first bass rod(other than a cheap combo from Wal-Mart) was a Lew's jig/worm mh speed stick. What do I need to look for as far as choosing a rod for crankbaits, jerkbaits, frogs? Thanks again Gene, you have truly gave me a lot to understand about bass fishing.

      All you have to do to loose weight and keep it off is to not have carbohydrates in your last meal of the day.
      Carbohydrates are pure fuel and have no nutritional value what SO ever,
      Any unburned carbohydrates turn immediately to fat while you sleep.
      Carb up during the active periods and carb down during inactive periods...
      It really is that simple...

    What would you use on a large rock bottom when the water is around 40 degrees? I tried a squarebill crank bait today but I felt like it was too fast for how cold the water is. A jig would get caught up, and a senko falls between the rocks.

    Great video guys! I know in my experience, most areas I fish are small lakes or ponds with basically no hard bottom areas. Do you think you could offer some tips or maybe a video for bottom fishing in a natural lake or pond with nothing but vegetation or silt on the bottom? If I throw a football jig it is caked in weeds or silt by the time I get it back to the boat or the bank. Thanks!

    • @rlandfish4881
      @rlandfish4881 7 лет назад

      Grant Henderson, I feel ya on the water temps. Gene and I have had to follow them back and forth as they push up and keep getting pushed back. Over and over and over. Haha. The longer days will force them to stay up there pretty soon, regardless of temperature.

    • @granthenderson2146
      @granthenderson2146 7 лет назад

      RLandFish very true...longer days! I'm fishing all foreign waters after a 8 year fishing hiatus, and some of the waters are what I call stew pots. They aren't far off the Mississippi River and contribute to it, so you have every species of fish coming into these waters. you just don't know what's there until you get bit. the structure and cover says yeah they should be here, but you could have another type of fish blowing out that area. Was out on Sunday and couldn't buy a bite. Threw shaky heads, senkos, split shot rig, and even crappie jigs just to see if a small species was in there. I probably fished the most difficult water in the area first, but big risk big reward, or big fail 😂. we know the outcome on that one. when are you and gene gonna go after them bronze backs?

    • @granthenderson2146
      @granthenderson2146 7 лет назад

      RLandFish You know Ryan, you should get Gene to go trout fishing... I think that would be a cool video to see. Get him to bust out the fly rod and go for trout and smallies.

    Can you get by fishing jigs on spinning gear? Say a 4000 size spinning reel and MH rod? With 30/40 lb braid. I read an interesting article about a successful FLW guy who done just that. Just wondering your thoughts on it? Any major disadvantages? Thanks!

    • @norcalbassnwithrioblanco4799
      @norcalbassnwithrioblanco4799 7 лет назад

      Jeremy Wardlaw that's all I use is spinning gear and my jig game is ok! as long as your line, rod, and reel are suitable to handle the heavier stuff, then it's all good bro👍 fish on!

  • @danimal2013
    @danimal2013 7 лет назад

    Hey Gene, I was wondering if you set your drag tighter on heavy wire hooks, than you would on light wire hooks. Or is the drag set for the reels sake, and has nothing to do with the lure. Thank you. I started bass fishing a few years ago and you were my first channel I subscribed to. So basically you taught me to fish. Appreciate all the info. Keep it up!

    • @bryandevereaux4445
      @bryandevereaux4445 7 лет назад +1

      danimal2013 i know I'm not Gene but I like to set my drag according to my line and what I'm fishing in. Like I own a Lews LFS and it's only got 10lb max drag and I fish 50lb braid on it so it stays locked at max drag. Ideally to me you want your drag about half of your line pound test. I have a 13 inception with 18lb max drag but I fish 12lb line on it so I try to keep it around 6-8lb drag set. And if you're punching per say I'd just lock it down no matter what

      danimal2013 no problem there's really no videos on this as far as I'm aware of so it's a good question. I know the saltwater guys keep there drag 20% of there line test but about 50% of your line test is pretty much good for bass fishing.
