As usual, outstanding content and superb explanations. The wacky rig with a long drop shot leader sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to trying these techniques this spring. Keep up the great work.
You are 100% right with the spinnerbait. I have been doing it for years. I start cranking hard right before it hits the water to get it moving right away. Monster hits pretty fast. Thanks for keeping our winters interesting.
I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. You do an excellent job at showing the lure and discussing techniques. Your channel is one of the best fishing channels available in my opinion. Thanks for your time and knowledge
Literally did the grinding technique with a 6.25 Money Badger in 7' of water a few weeks ago, and they clobbered it!! They were ignoring conventional "winter" lures (wouldn't even touch a Ned). The Money Badger in rootbeer craw is, well... money :)
Great info! Thank you, I will need to give that wacky setup a try. Which Picasso spinnerbait, they have several different ones. Also, what size senko, 5 or 6 inch?
Thanks Matt. I've been tying some weightless hairjigs to use on a drop shot for this year. May I ask what type of eyelets you'd recommend for a small diameter braided line.
Totally agree on the wacky rig/drop shot approach. I've started using a 3/8oz or 1/2oz shaky head for my drop shot weight and it has doubled, if not tripled my catches on that rig. 👍🇺🇸
I need to understand...are u using a jig for a weight with like a trailer and all plus a dropshot hook tied up the line because that actually sounds kinda legit but have never thought of it or even know if it would really be effective but it definitely sounds cool might do it because why not lol...
I have had problems with the end blade falling off the swivel with the Picasso spinner baits for years. I like the spinning bait, but I quit purchasing them for that reason. Has anyone else had that problem?
@MattStefanFishing I wonder if it's the way it have them stored or if it's just terrible luck. Because they produce and I really do like them. My favorite spinner bait is the old Stanley wedge, and they I believe have been discontinued. Thanks for the reply Matt, best of luck in your upcoming tournament season.
In western Washington the fish seem to only bite the cranks on the grind. If they can see it they won't hit it cause the water is so clear and there's not much competition for the bass up here. Kings of the lake most of the time
Matt, how many hard baits and jigs do you loose by snagging on average day in the tournament fishing? I stopped fishing as a co, because the boaters didn’t give a ****, of my snagged hard baits and jigs including special run, limited colors. I recall seeing a boater breaking off 5-6 deep divers in an hour, and he didn’t even try to save a single one. And we came to heated conversation when I tried to save my best lures I was using to catch fish.
I've only used the double willow deal when bass are bustin bait on surface. Ill throw that thing main lake, wayy out at a shad school& burn& blowout every once in a while. Bass slam it! LiterAlly only done that for actively feeding bass
In 2023 the 8-10 xd type of crankbaits got a lot of big bass for me and people fishing with me... in 2024 it did not.... I think part of that was due to the lakes I was fishing too. The hair jig was a big big big bait for quality to big bites this last summer for met on multiple lakes
Try the duel hardcore deep divers (6 and 7). They are just as "magnum" but a little more streamlined. GREAT crankbaits and a better price too. Honestly I think they are just way more premium and a better price. Try a 6 and a 7! I have more pending for my next TW order.
Hey Coach, I had better luck with the 5/6 XD in '24 but only got maybe a half dozen tourny keepers on the hair jigs through the whole year. Honestly, though, I was only using the more "economical" hair jigs and I think that may have been a genuine factor. 👍🇺🇸
@@AaronKellerFishing I have thrown a variety. The last year for post spawn through fall I threw the true bass shuttlecoack / Cumberland pro hair jigs. For winter I have thrown smaller ones that were homemade previously but I like to experiment with bigger hair jigs
I'm on board with the pros who say big spinnerbaits slowrolling is best for big fish. However, I do not throw traditional spinnerbaits. I built the best. Yes, we only do Fat Free bc the only way is to hit the bottom. No need for shallow cranks. This is the simplifying part. I don't know why this is hard for people to understand. Also, this is why shore fishing is best, namely in Commiefornia. Wacky? Too slow. Works well in the shallow, esp. fish bait....but eh, they say I'm an elite onto miself. Yall have no clue.
That's the only "pro" of so many anglers playing video games out on the water....These type of techniques aren't for them, and allow all lures except weenie soft plastics to be in stock 😂
As usual, outstanding content and superb explanations. The wacky rig with a long drop shot leader sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to trying these techniques this spring. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I hope they work for you!

money badger works great for that technique
When do you fish the big spinnerbait ? Do you use. Use a trailer hook or any trailer?
ill throw it all year but it depends on the conditions
Good tips Matt 👍 thanks
No problem 👍
Great info! Thank you, I will need to give that wacky setup a try. Which Picasso spinnerbait, they have several different ones. Also, what size senko, 5 or 6 inch?
Links are in the video description and all sizes of general
Great stuff man. These sound like fun.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I tie mine on a Gamakatsu size 1 dropshot hook
What's the best knots to tie a spinner bait?
i like the miller knot
Spinner bait tech works good in farm ponds in KY
Thanks for sharing!
Nice tip Matt would like to see that wacky rig set up some time. Maybe a future video
you got it!
Thank you Matt !!! Good information 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Does that crankbait tip work well when water temps are 35-45?
it can
Totally agree on the wacky rig/drop shot approach. I've started using a 3/8oz or 1/2oz shaky head for my drop shot weight and it has doubled, if not tripled my catches on that rig. 👍🇺🇸
Awesome!
Do u put anything on the shakyhead hook, or u leave it bare?
I need to understand...are u using a jig for a weight with like a trailer and all plus a dropshot hook tied up the line because that actually sounds kinda legit but have never thought of it or even know if it would really be effective but it definitely sounds cool might do it because why not lol...
Thanos Matt, how do you keep your crankbait from getting all mucked up when you're dredging it?.
youve got to fish it on clean bottom areas
This is the juice we want and need 🎉
Glad you liked it
Oh man! Thanks for this!
You're welcome!
A top vid, Matt !!!
thanks!
Thanks Matt
thanks for watching!
would you recommend throwing a 4" sakamatashad on the hover rig?
yep!
@MattStefanFishing i was thinking I could. I picked some up yesterday pretty cheap.
Cool ideas Matt, next time down size the willow leaves blades on the spinnerbait you can tell me about it later 👍
Thanks for the tip!
I enjoyed this video
Great
did I do something wrong sending you that link? Just thought you would like seeing someone talking about core tackle.
i didnt see the link you sent
I wanna know where i can get that shirt
Bass talk live
I have had problems with the end blade falling off the swivel with the Picasso spinner baits for years. I like the spinning bait, but I quit purchasing them for that reason. Has anyone else had that problem?
I have never had a blade fall off

It is captain CA fishes around crystal river... saltwater. 7 minutes in he is promoting core tackle. my secret is out now. lol
Awesome!
Ups a daisy ! 👍👍
Thanks for watching
Like last 2. 👍
Thanks
Caught my PB northern strain largemouth (7-15) drop shotting a wacky rigged Senko
awesome!
Call me crazy and might need a custom fly rod, but I think there is a potential for winning a bass tournament fly fishing during the Fall.
go for it!

i lose a lot in some instances
The Buzz Bait works better for me in the spone time of the year
Sounds good
Never used any of the three techniques, I will have to try ?
Give them a try!

Randy did a video where he talked about fishing an old Bagley DB3 in shallow water.
I'll have to check that out.
