Being an oasis fan from 1994 one of the things I remember from those days was the excitement of buying the singles and albulms the covers and oasis logo was so iconic .. some fascinating insights here thanks Brian
In my school, we got a new computer suite with brand new PCs in 1995. We spent 5 mins every lesson making this logo for the background of our home screen, only for the teacher to make us remove it 😂
This was fantastic. Your presentation style was well paced and felt like you were sat across from us at a table just having a chat. Depth of field on the camera shot was really tasteful too. I'd love to hear you talk about other bands' logos (even ones you didn't design) in a similar fashion.
Currently in the process of doing rebrand work for a band and i've been stuck with designers block for a while until this video has given me a kick-up the arse. Legendary work, legendary man.
Classic logo, the later artwork after 2000 didn't look right at all without it. I remember going into buy Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and not knowing the album sleeve I couldn't find it for ages because the logo was so faint on the cover.
This just popped up on my feed, what a great watch, grew up with the band and the artwork is totally classic and went hand in hand with the tunes, cheers!
This was fascinating! Being Oasis mad in secondary school my friends and I would mock up our own versions of the logo in Helvetica Black Italic for stickers/wall posters etc.
I had the white swirl t-shirt. Bought in 1994 after seeing oasis at Glastonbury and then Newcastle Riverside gig. Wish I had a picture of me in it from then. Bought a few 5ft x 3ft subway oasis posters for the house. Great channel Brian 👏
So glad you finally went on and did this. Remember, sir, YOU are also a large part of OASIS history. Very excited to learn more about the stories behind different sleeves and whatnot. Much love from Canada!
Brilliant videos Brian love how passionate you still are over the Oasis artwork I had a lot of the original fly posters in the 90s especially the big 60 x 40 inch ones my favourite was ‘Rocking All Over The World’ promoting both albums at the time ….I always thought the font was also a slight take on The Stone Roses as they used Helvetica bold font on their Silvertone releases. Would also love how you made the Shakermaker sleeve which is my favourite sleeve design Microdot did for the band the concept of putting on the track on the stereo and melting everything because of its vibe I thought was brilliant !!!.
It’s crazy how much they nailed Helvetica. I come back to it time and time again in my designs and use it as a benchmark by which to gauge other fonts. I think I always will. Never gets out of date or dull, pure class.
at first, I thought, how does he gonna talk about a single logo for 19 minutes? surely some old footage of the band, fancy transition and whatnot will be tucked in to squeeze duration. oh how happy am I for being wrong. very concise and informative. straight from the man himself. salute. please do more. thank you.
Big YES to more videos about all the artwork, I have always been really interested about it. I couldn’t understand why the logo had to be skewed as they didn’t have the same font Thanks for this video Brian, I love it. I never realised the font for the Union Jack logo is not the same than the final logo.
To a lifelong Oasis fan like me this is fascinating stuff. I was 15 in 1994 and Oasis became and still are my life. I already knew bits and bobs about the logos etc but this went in-depth and I love that! More please!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
She’s a Superstar cover would be cool to hear about. I bought a poster print of it from you years ago that hangs in my living room, knowing the full story of how that image was created would be very interesting to hear.
What a fantastic video... incorporating an iconic band with design and history. Loved hearing about the thought process and the internal struggle for perfection.
Fantastic history lesson Brian, I've always had a fascination for album and single sleeve designs starting with Peter Saville designs for Joy Division & New Order then onto John Squire's Stone Roses covers, Central Station's Happy Mondays to Designer Republic Orb Artwork. Brian you're up there with the best!
Heard you on Chris Moyles this morning, I thought the interview was fascinating. Thanks for doing the You Tube channel looking forward to hearing your stories .
Absolutely LOVE this video! Cheers! When I was a teenager in the 90s I was SO curious about you and Microdot! I’d love to see breakdowns of every cover you worked on to be honest!
Epic video, outstanding in fact. Growing up loving the band, the logo, the sleeves, the music. I worshipped the whole band, now it is clear that the whole team behind the scenes were on the same page the whole time. It worked, and it was magical. "Stand by me, nobody knows the way it's gonna be" - Noel Gallagher (1997).
Really great video. As a fellow graphic designer I can totally relate to the 'not having that font' scenario. I love the original logo and wish they'd kept it in the 2000s.
Dear Brian, thank you, I received my Lucky Man print & WTSMG Vinyl (signed) ! Amazing, ordered on a Sunday & delivered from the U.K. to Sydney in only 5 days, Quality, well packaged & protected, all in Mint Condition. The Print's now framed & on my wall, whilst the Albums been spinning non stop on my Turn-table. You're a true Gentleman !
Thank you Brian for sharing your memories! I remember buying my Definitely Maybe CD in a mall music store with my mom in 1994 after hearing Oasis on the radio a few times. It was my very first CD and the first I played in a brand new portable CD player that I had just bought. I have always loved the logo and it now adorns the roof rack of my car. Looking forward to hearing more war stories! All the best! Chris - Greensboro, North Carolina USA
SOOOO good, Brian! Thanks for sharing this history. In '94, my 12 year old self drew this logo on so many school books that I memorized every curve, every angle, every detail. It opened my eyes to design and I subsequently made graphic design my career. You'll always be an inspiration. Cheers for that!
Nicely done Brian, I finally got around to watching this and it was great, really well presented. I'm Jonny the lad that helped you out at your gallery show in Leeds back in December 2015. I hope you're doing well and I look forward to seeing future videos.
Heard Brian on the Chris Moyles show where he mentioned this channel. Excellent mini documentary, really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next show. Thank you Brian, for this and your contribution to British art and pop art.
Fantastic as expected from Brian; the history of how these sleeves, logos etc came to be from the most important British bands is inspiring...looking forward to the next episodes. Cheers
Awesome video As a 25 yearold Oasis fan I enjoyed hearing how much you helped the band with alot of their discography designs and the iconic band logo these stories are fascinating to hear YOU'RE A LEGEND greetings from the US 🤘😎🤘💯
Cheers mate, i've been hooked on Oasis since 97 when i took a schooltrip to London and bought their first 2 albums at Tower records before going back to Belgium. Oasis has and will be with me through all the high's and low's. Loving your info and channel and can't wait for new vids 👌🏻
Watched a couple of oasis videos this week. This morning RUclips Algorithm recommended this video to watch. Really enjoyed the history lesson behind the logo but vexed to hear about the cassette tape but sometimes memory’s are better to have when the story is worth telling.
top video… as a musician/producer in manchester - it’s nice to have a familiar northern voice talking about my side passion; graphic design and fonts and stuff
I would pay good money for a Microdot design book. One with the stories behind the design, like Michael Bierut's book.
Absolutely a great shout for a microdot book
No you wouldn’t
@@doubledenimdudedress rrry😢really excited

Why? All the stories are here on RUclips.

absolutely
Same with me boss .....great memories
That logo does something to my brain whenever I look at it. So many great memories.
In my school, we got a new computer suite with brand new PCs in 1995. We spent 5 mins every lesson making this logo for the background of our home screen, only for the teacher to make us remove it 😂
As a graphic designer and an Oasis fan, I enjoyed this very much. Would love to see more of your work.

'Typographical Hero' - Not phrase you hear everyday.
Currently in the process of doing rebrand work for a band and i've been stuck with designers block for a while until this video has given me a kick-up the arse.
Legendary work, legendary man.
Brian Cannon and Microdot, two legendary names I grew up admiring and being inspired by. Great to hear your insights, please do more.
Classic logo, the later artwork after 2000 didn't look right at all without it. I remember going into buy Standing on the Shoulder of Giants and not knowing the album sleeve I couldn't find it for ages because the logo was so faint on the cover.

Agreed .
This was fascinating! Being Oasis mad in secondary school my friends and I would mock up our own versions of the logo in Helvetica Black Italic for stickers/wall posters etc.
Quality history Brian Cannon. Great stories for all OASIS fans
Who’s the 7 people who gave this a thumbs down? This is gold

Loved this - suggestions for a the next one: the making of the cover of Verve's debut single in Mesnes Park!
So glad you finally went on and did this. Remember, sir, YOU are also a large part of OASIS history. Very excited to learn more about the stories behind different sleeves and whatnot. Much love from Canada!
I didn’t expect to enjoy this so much. Really interesting. Out of interest did you have an office in Shoreditch back in the 90s? Just subscribed
I was about to write exactly the same thing, didn't expect to enjoy 20mins of talking about the Oasis logo :D

It would be great to have an episode on each of the sleeves and what went behind it 👌
Thank you for this video. As a designer and especially as a fan of oasis, I was delighted to see this.
This is absolute gold. You are a living legend Brian.
at first, I thought, how does he gonna talk about a single logo for 19 minutes? surely some old footage of the band, fancy transition and whatnot will be tucked in to squeeze duration. oh how happy am I for being wrong.

good work sir!
As a graphic designer and a massive Oasis fan this was a real treat
Not just a brilliant history of the logo, but some really epic stories here! Amazing work Brian :-)
This is fantastic. I hope more record cover designers take a cue from this.
Just finished. Utterly fantastic Brian. You're a blessing bro. Thank you for this! Cannot wait for more!
Top job Brian 👏👏

Thank you Brian for sharing this stories with the Oasis fans, it's amazing to see how the iconic logo came to be.
Best debute RUclips video I’ve ever seen
Fantastic history of the Oasis brand!
Thank you as a music lover and graphic designer I love getting a sneak peek inside your process. And your stories are so good! Thank you.
She’s a Superstar cover would be cool to hear about. I bought a poster print of it from you years ago that hangs in my living room, knowing the full story of how that image was created would be very interesting to hear.

This is priceless. That logo means so much. It is my youth. Here I am, 42 years old.
Heard you on Chris Moyles this morning, I thought the interview was fascinating. Thanks for doing the You Tube channel looking forward to hearing your stories .
Brilliant story Brian, Thanks for sharing the history. I will be a BIG fan of yours channel. 👍
Absolutely LOVE this video! Cheers! When I was a teenager in the 90s I was SO curious about you and Microdot! I’d love to see breakdowns of every cover you worked on to be honest!
The black and white logo is the best ever IMO.
npc
Super interesting, saw you on the Chris Moyles show, looking forward to hearing more history!
Brilliant stuff Brian.- can't wait to hear about the early verve ep covers. Especially 'gravity grave' - that photo is class.
What an incredible video about the history of the oasis logo
Great video! Looking forward to visiting the shop when I’m in the Lake District in November!
Fascinating, hopefully there’s more to come. 👍🏻
Loved watching this, getting to know more of the back history of the world's most iconic band.
Just found this video. As an artist and an oasis fan this blew me away - hope there's more
All these years later and we are getting answers to all the questions we thought we'd never get answered. Just amazing to hear

Very cool video Brian.
Looking forward to a video about the Verve artworks. 🙏🏻👍🏻
Great stuff, can't wait for more!
This was such an interesting story to hear. Incredibly well told by Brian
This is great! Hopefully you can do a series where you go over all the album art, including all those amazing singles.
Really great video. As a fellow graphic designer I can totally relate to the 'not having that font' scenario. I love the original logo and wish they'd kept it in the 2000s.
Amazing history here Brian... Thank you for showing us these incredible treasures and for sharing these stories!
That original is a priceless piece of Oasis history. Please keep these videos coming.
Nice one Brian. Spot on.👍🏻
Please do more on oasis and maybe verve!
I moved on from Graphic Design about 10 years ago but boy this brings memories of the late 90s and why I was so in love with design back then.
Dear Brian, thank you, I received my Lucky Man print & WTSMG Vinyl (signed) ! Like everyone else, I loved the stories and detail. You make a great video host as well - very natural and relaxed. More like this please.
Love your story about the scrapped car. Really looking forward to the next one!
Well worth the 10 year wait! Thank you Brian!
Top video, top design, top bloke. Thanks Bri, love these insights into how sleeves that defined the mid-90s were created. More please 👍🏻
Brilliant work Brian, liked and subscribed 😁
Thank you Brian for sharing your memories! I remember buying my Definitely Maybe CD in a mall music store with my mom in 1994 after hearing Oasis on the radio a few times. My teenage years. Right here. Thank you, Brian.
This guy's passion is inspiring! Great history and stories here
Excellent!
I always called it a design scheme but to call it corporate branding makes sense too!
This was amazing, I'm dying to hear more, please please please make more videos
Really enjoyed this, very interesting. Please do more.
Great stuff Brian, loved it.
Brian,
Such an amazing journey that you are taking us on. Could listen to this stuff all day long. More please!
Did not disappoint Brian 😎
Awesome story telling! Never knew the logo went through so many different changes! Gotta give us more!
Brilliant and informative video mate, thanks for all the effort and great to hear these unheard stories

I hope you're doing well and I look forward to seeing future videos.
Great video, more of these please!!
You could have made 10 episodes with these stories. Fascinating stuff.
Love the font that was used for Oasis . Lends itself brilliantly to t shirts just like my mates band Gun .
Fantastic insight Bri. Keep it up pal. Top stuff.
Heard Brian on the Chris Moyles show where he mentioned this channel. Excellent mini documentary, really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next show. Thank you Brian, for this and your contribution to British art and pop art.

I found two of my Oasis CDs a few days ago and played them in the car. I always liked that they had their logo on their CDs
