thank you for being such an inspiration to me as a young graphic designer working in the music business. Would LOVE to see a process breakdown for the lathums from nothing to a little bit more sleeve artwork! just a thought :)
I remember sending off for a massive poster of this artwork, expecting the whole thing, and what I got was a close up of just the fish. Still stuck it on my wall. True story.
This is brilliant. Learning about what went on behind the scenes to create the imagery is endlessly fascinating. I hope you continue to do more of these. Very well done indeed!
Never caught the guitars in the windows before. This is why I always bought the Oasis 12" singles. The covers were an intrega part of the music. Single covers were an important part of youth culture from the Beatles to the sex pistols, clash,Damned, smiths etc... Sadly, Oasis sleeves were probably the last great singles artwork we will ever cherish.
Wow, I worked in a record shop when this single came out - sold a ton of these - the Oasis covers were always so interesting and stood out better than any of the other Top 40 singles we had on the rack...
I remember going into to buy Standing on the shoulders of giants and couldn't see it in HMV the cover didn't stand out or the oasis logo. They should have kept microdot on board
Having done several albums myself the sheer attention to detail on this is beyond many people's vision, I think that simply boils down to creative expression that radiates passion. Great.
Always a massive fan of your artwork, really did stand out from the other bands around. Oasis had their own look thanks to your work, please keep these memories flowing.
Some Might Say is a Classic Single with Class B-Sides Acquiesce, Talk Tonight n Headshrinker! The sleeve is Excellent with loads of "Easter Eggs" Cheers Brian n Thanks for your Contribution!
Absolutely love that the dog had to have his best mate bought along to keep him in check...that's pretty rock and roll in itself.I do actually remember buying that single and being weirdly fascinated by the guy pushing the sink barrow full of fishes lol...so it's pretty cool to find out it was your dad. This whole video was brilliant tbh...every single time I see that Some Might Say cover I still smile...it's a beautiful image in its own right
Absolutely love this channel! Not only as an oasis fan but the attention to detail from creation to execution is amazing. I still remember buying the cd single and staring at the artwork whilst listening. Who puts 4 tracks on a single these days 😂 Great times 👍🏼
Also the scene of a horrible murder in the station car park. Rest in peace Stuart Ludlam. One of my dads friends. There’s a ‘British murderers’ Discovery-type documentary (murderer Colin Cheetham is dead thank god) features this station a lot.
Some Might Say was the first single I bought when it came out, as I got into Oasis after the first singles from DM had been released so always meant more to me as I helped it get to No 1! Great video again!
I live ten minutes from this station, I’ve been with my 6 year old lad and recreated this sleeve with us in it, the Mrs was the photographer haha. Lovely part of the world and if your mad on oasis like myself, then it’s well worth a visit. While your there pay a visit to Matlock, it’s literally like being in a seaside town but inland without the beach, about 5 minutes drive from the station, bakewell is about 25 minutes depending on traffic, that’s also a lovely part of the world, stunning scenery and country lanes. You could spend an hole day visiting these places maybe 2 days, if your stopping over night then I’d stay in bakewell 👍🏻 enjoy 👍🏻
Brilliant vid , thanks Brian . One of the 1st singles I ever bought as a 14 year old in '95..I was fascinated by the cover as a kid and had never noticed the guitar detail in the window before! Best Oasis single in terms of artwork and 4 great tracks too ...
Wonderful to hear the creativity and depth of feeling behind such an iconic record sleeve. Am binge watching your videos, they’re fascinating and it feels like the last generation of truly hands-on creative artwork on record covers. ❤
Thank you, Brian! That was great. When I first heard "Some Might Say", I rode my bike down to the college radio station that played it and convinced the DJ to let me make a tape of his import CD. Great tune and inspired art.
Superb stuff. Definitely my favourite Oasis single cover and probably my favourite Oasis song (although if you ask me on another day, I might say Sad Song or Whatever). In any case, this was fascinating, Brian, and I'm gutted that I can't come to see you at King Tuts. I hope to maybe meet you at the boutique one day. Keep these videos coming, mate. I love them 🙂
Brilliant video Brian. We did the trip to cromford station a few years ago. Do you remember what hotel you stayed in in Matlock Bath? Look forward to the next vid. And hopefully will make it up to Kendal again soon.
I love learning about all this background stuff, and it seems even more special to be learning about it in 2022 than if it were back then for some reason. I live really close to Cromford/Matlock, we call it the seaside without the sea and I noticed you mentioned it’s about as far from the sea as you can get. Maybe a visit to that station on the cards if it’s still there. I have one of your Be Here Now posters signed by Bonehead too, I’m hoping to visit in the summer!
Fantastic video, Brian. I've subscribed! It's amazing to hear the level of care and passion that went into those iconic sleeves. I'd actually never noticed the umbrella of pots and pans before. Props to your Dad for making that sink wheelbarrow; top guy!
Thank you very much for this informative video. I grew up gazing at all of the oasis covers in my obsession with the band. Always loved the artwork and concepts during the 94-98 era. It was also cool to hear that they were your parents on the front cover. I always wondered what the connection was and if they were random people or not. Thanks again and would love to see more!
Great video Brian! What a song and what a sleeve! Those Oasis singles sleeves were such an exciting attraction for me, as a fan, whenever new stuff was released. Please do more videos!
I remember so clearly being in club RAW and you came in with the proof for this cover and sang Hannah and I the chorus to the song. You were absolutely elated man....They were such exciting times... do you remember club RAW? you were there with Tim Abbot. You gave us a little treat too!!!x
Thanks for taking us with you on this journey Brian! I was born in '95, so I was to young to see the glory days of Oasis. Listening to your stories and hearing about the journeys you took with the band really makes me feel to be a little part of those special moments from the 90's. Really really interesting!
This is a superb video . Packed with loads of information and insight. Some Might Say is the archetypal Oasis sound. More like 'them' than any other song in my opinion. Massive layers of guitars, uplifting lyrics and Liam's iconic snarl at its best. The Glasto 95 rendition has always been my favourite live version and it's Whitey's second gig. Thanks for taking the time to put this together and I'm looking forward to my illustrated artwork arriving. Mike
Brilliant. The Oasis 12" sleeves were always great and were equal to the content on the records in my opinion, my favourite being Live Forever with the grainy B&W photo of the suburban house in the summer. The image on that cover is full of atmosphere and is so uniquely English and is a memory of those lazy hazy days in 94. Love the explanation of the concept of the Some Might Say cover as its so honest and unpretentious and is full of humour. I couldn't imagine Hipgnosis explaining how they came up with their art for the Floyd covers without going into an ethereal arty farty load of waffle :)
Truly inspiring stuff, Brian! - Nicely presented too - What a journey, what a process! - Your attention to detail is astonishing, superb ideas to marry with Noel's lyrics! - Top sleeve for a top song!
The Best Oasis Song As Far As I'm Concerned It Has It All, Rock N Roll Swagger, Blazing Guitars, Superb Melody With Uplifting Lyrics And Liam's Voice At It's Finest.
Album artwork is worthy of its own fan base
The depth in Oasis sleeves is incredible, the 00s albums/singles were certainly missing the Microdot charm!
I do like the psychedelia of the last album, but of course it's not the same
I've been waiting 7 months for this vid!
I have this mounted on my living room wall, framed. I live 3 miles from Cromford Station
thank you for being such an inspiration to me as a young graphic designer working in the music business. Would LOVE to see a process breakdown for the lathums from nothing to a little bit more sleeve artwork! just a thought :)

Thank you Brian for your work in the history of Oasis and above all, thank you for transmitting it.

Single covers were an important part of youth culture from the Beatles to the sex pistols, clash,Damned, smiths etc... As a graphic designer and lifelong Oasis fan, this is like stumbling upon a goldmine to me. Please make more videos

@@shredder9536 100%. I kinda lost track of Oasis after Bonehead, Microdot & Creation.....
Having done several albums myself the sheer attention to detail on this is beyond many people's vision, I think that simply boils down to creative expression that radiates passion.
Great.
Well said!
Always a massive fan of your artwork, really did stand out from the other bands around. Oasis had their own look thanks to your work, please keep these memories flowing.

Great and amazing story Brian. Cheers from Thai RKID.
What a magical time ❤️👌 thanks for the memories!
Summer of ‘95 still one of my best summers ever
Absolutely amazing tune, artwork is so clever and lots of little nods to the song in there, brilliant work Brian
Thanks from chilly Canada. We dont all want to attack the band here.
The return of the king. Love love love these videos
The long awaited sequel
Top Man! Top Artwork ! Top Story! Top Band!
Absolutely love this channel! Not only as an oasis fan but the attention to detail from creation to execution is amazing. I still remember buying the cd single and staring at the artwork whilst listening. Who puts 4 tracks on a single these days 😂 Great times 👍🏼
When the boys stopped doing these kinds of covers is exactly when the the Musical quality plunged drastically.
Also the scene of a horrible murder in the station car park. Rest in peace Stuart Ludlam. One of my dads friends.
There’s a ‘British murderers’ Discovery-type documentary (murderer Colin Cheetham is dead thank god) features this station a lot.
I’ve always loved Oasis artwork, this is just great!

You are a legend in your own right, legendary.😎👊🏼
It's such a shame Oasis seemed to change after Be Here Now, they should of kept with this level of detail to their output. Outstanding
Fantastic. More videos like this please!

my favourite artwork of any oasis release
Wonderful to hear the creativity and depth of feeling behind such an iconic record sleeve. Am binge watching your videos, they’re fascinating and it feels like the last generation of truly hands-on creative artwork on record covers. ❤
A truly amazing, detailed insight into an iconic band album sleeve... Pure gold Sir!
Thank you, Brian! That was great. When I first heard "Some Might Say", I rode my bike down to the college radio station that played it and convinced the DJ to let me make a tape of his import CD. Great tune and inspired art.

Top insight Brian, belting artwork for a belting tune. Big hi to our Jill too 👍🏻
Great store, great videos explaining the art history of Oasis, and congrats 🎉
These videos look fantastic too, as you'd expect from a designer of course

Fantastic! And not Photoshop faked either 👏👏👏. Can't believe it's 27 years since it came out - feels like yesterday when I bought it.
This was brilliant, I enjoyed absolutely every single second of this video. I hope you make more of these please.

Incredible detail recollected on these vids. 👏

Yes!!! Been waiting and waiting for another upload !
That was a good watch very interesting. Especially your dad building props lol quality.
Always felt the music and sleeves went hand in hand and the 2 are now inextricably linked.
Brilliant, Brian.

Did you forget to mention, the cover was shot in black and white , then colour hand painted on. Look forward to more in this series.
As always. Love you work Brian, been a fan since the early days… This new RUclips channel is amazing brother
Visited Cromford Station today for the first time. Stunning. I can't stand Oasis but admire the cover.

The Live Forever cover shot is Lennon`s childhood home apparently.
Great video. Love hearing the stories behind the sleeves. This is a favourite of mine too because it is shot not far from me.
You are incredible !
