  • Manager 1:1s are a special time for a salesperson. It’s when you get the chance to over-commit your future performance while simultaneously showing how little you’ve improved from the week prior. Use these weekly meetings wisely so you can build rapport with your biggest cheerleader so they push out that PIP a couple more months as you search for your next job. #Manager1on1s

The worst is when you need to keep moving close dates for something in commit because it's stuck with the client's legal team

Gotta say it's been tough clawing my way out, but seeing this makes me so glad I decided to go back to school and actually try to make something of myself. Sales is an empty, skill-less dead end road. It's controlled gambling

It’s actually the highest paid profession ever, you’re just not cut out for it sounds like. I remember feeling that way. After 10 years in sales, doing exactly what the guy in the video did, I decided after a sales meeting that I COULD change.. something clicked, and I started studying personal development stuff, reading books like “the secret” and eventually stumbled upon my eventual mentor Bob Proctor. I made presidents club the following year. The next year, I was on my way to do it again, but in October, I decided I wanted to quit and become a professional development coach. I did that for 3 years, and eventually decided to go back into Coorporate America, which is when I manifested an awesome job as a sales manager. I couldn’t wait to implement my new found knowledge and strategy with a new team incorporating the art of goal creation, through the power of their mindset. Anyone reading this can be successful in your chosen sales field, you just need a mentor that cares about your success and has the ability to help you help yourself.

Not a single like in 8 months. Your opinion is very wrong.

@@kingofchivalry5509 Looking back, a bit harsh for sure. Anyone who works and pays taxes is alright. It's still gambling though... you're livelihood directly depends on things outside of your control. And where this dynamic is an aspect of other professions, it's central to sales. The company is paying you to internalize risk so that it can offset its own exposure. By assuming risk, you become motivated to limit your own exposure... sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you're always carrying the bag.
It may not be skill-less as I previously stated, but its a profession comprised exclusively of soft skills. The most important of which is likely risk tolerance. Sales processes are rarely as repeatable as people who sell sales processes would lead you to believe.
Finally, sales is inherently materialistic. You are constantly thinking about money because that's all you bring to the table. You maybe get a quarter or two for free, but once you stop producing, you're out.
These aren't opinions, it's just a description of sales. No more, no less. I can romanticize it and say salesmen are capitalism's gladiators. If you like it, more power to you. I know my og comment was inflammatory, but do you really disagree with any of this? If so, where?

Perfection. Also, sales managers seem to have no idea what the word “commit” actually means. You did miss the bit with inane advice from the manager like “just call him” and “ we really need this sale” and “you need more activity”.
