That car is currently sitting outside with 220K on the clock. 19 years ago I bought a '96 Dodge diesel 4X4. It's sitting outside with 340K on it. My 2015 GX will probably pass them up. Premium gas (93 RON in Texas), Toyota intake airflow accelerator trumpet (goes in the fender), clean Denso air filter, And 5w-30 full synthetic oil.... I make great power everywhere. Runs much smoother on 5w-30 M1 (love Castrol as well). The airflow accelerator really helped throttle response.
    Also, make sure your fender well liners are in good shape; if they aren't, your intake (in the fender) will suck in hot air that spills into your wheel well. You can see your IATs drop over 10F in traffic just by going from missing fender liners to fender liners in-place.

Nice natural sound . Also for towing the rpm knowledge is very important as it’s best to use it in manual to keep up the rev’s . Really attached to this car . The only drawbacks of course is the premium gas $$, but skipping a the usual repairs in most cars gives me the $ for my enjoyment. Enough that if I could I would have no problem buying the last of the breed 2023 ( probably still the V8) . With all the delays . Fun , I’ll definitely loosen up and go manual more . Great points - I was trying to explain this to her, I just didn't have actual knowledge lol
    Have you done this on an LX / 200 series?

    Hi, I got a question/problem for everyone. I picked up a 2023 GX today and throttle response is horrible. I keep seeing the ECO dash light turn on. Is this an always on thing? Can I turn off this "mode" to get back to a more sporty/normal throttle response? I understand hitting the shift lever over improves response, but I want the response in normal mode so I don't get the higher rpm levels. I ordered a Banks Pedal Monster today to help this vehicle get up & go. If this ECO thing is permanently done in the name of fuel economy, etc, its a big mistake, because saving 1/2 mpg at the expense of needed throttle response is actually a dangerous thing when you need to react to traffic, etc. Can anyone shed some light on this issue. Did anyone install a throttle control system on their GX, and did it alleviate this problem sufficiently? Thx!

      Yea I drove my 2023 GX home and noticed the same thing and yes you have to turn that setting off/normal. I think they forget to do it at the dealer…get a pedal commander too. It’s a must have on new electronic throttle cars as the mfg set them up for peek mpg.

      @@weiland74 the eco light is just a light, showing that you're driving like a grandma. Turning it off, does nothing as far as performance goes. The pedal Monster I installed is awesome and well worth double what it costs! What trim level/color did you get?

      @@cadcamfreak look under Meter Settings in instrument cluster screen. There is an eco mode you can disable which affects the throttle.

      @@weiland74 I wonder if we can verify if that meter actually changes the throttle response, or is just an indicator that shows your driving habits. I think it's the latter. I posted the question to the GX forum, and a few replies stated it does nothing for the actual throttle. Even in the manual, it just gives info on how to change it from showing up on your main display panel.

    Apart from the powerband that gear-shifts produces to the vehicle, does it make it drive faster a d if yes, can one engage it in a situation one needs to quickly accelerate out of some places?

    • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD
      @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD  Год назад +2

      yes... just hit the shifter to the left from drive, and the ecu will downshift you into the next lowest, safe gear that has more power... typically this a downshift from 6th gear to 4th gear... try it out... the ecu prevents you from going into a lower gear that is unsafe

      @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Vital point indeed and though, I grasped most intuitively from your video but I imagined if this could come handy should one have a sudden need to quickly accelerate from a static position of thr vehicle by applying the same process/steps. And I'm emphasising here on speed basically.

    Yamaha did not design the UR engine or the 1UR-FE in the GX. They designed high flow cylinder heads for the 2UR 5.0 liter performance engine. The UR family is capable of 500 HP naturally aspirated and a red line of over 7000 RPMs. 300 horse at 5500 isn't stressing the engine. The 1UR is actually the most conservative version from the family.

      Yamaha is Toyota's engine maker. Been this way since the 1970s. The Lexus V8 is a Yamaha design. Thus GX and nearly all Toyotas have Yamaha engines ✌️

      @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD That's just not correct not even sure where you're getting this info from. Toyota partnered with Yamaha starting in 1965. They are joint ventures in which Yamaha's focus is specifically on the cylinder heads for performance variants of different engine families. Families with a "G" in the second half of the engine designation denoting "performance cylinder head", ie the 3S-GE, 2UR-GSE, 1LR-GSE and so fourth.

      Your comment about Yamaha doing the head work for the GX makes sense. As I recall they also teamed up with Ford on the Taurus SHO car back in the 2000’s. Having shopped Lexus SUV’s pre spindle grill years, I opted for the LX because of the 5.7 liter power. I would have much preferred a GX570, but am very content with the 2011 LX, especially at high altitudes.

  • @HanginInSF

    The problem is the transmission is programmed to shift at low rpms. The second you stop pegging it, the tranny takes you immediately back to lugging/gutless status.
