I was just an embryo in my Mama's belly during this show. She was and is a GD fan/ hippie chick. Teen in the 90's . Just recently started listening,(no really listening/learning; play and sing.) Saw them once in 92, Happy able to explore this fantastic music with tech age. Very comforting to know this music is always there when you need it.
1976 was a sweet year for live Dead. You can't deny the greatness of 77, but don't forget about 76. It had such a thick, mellow groove that was unique. It's amazing how good the audio quality of dead shows from the mid seventies were. Their sound engineer must have known what he was doing. Plus having Garcia putting out such smooth jams had something to do with it!
+Dennis Campbell..... I guess I shouldnt have "He" knew what he was doing. Since it was Betty Cantor. . Now that you said her name, I do remember reading about her and her recordings. You are correct, she sure knew what she was doing!!
@@j.kevinhunt147 No wall of sound here. They played theaters this tour with a rented PA. Probably some of their guys at Alembic helped create it but their days of owning and moving massive stacks of speakers was over. A great experiment but completely unsustainable.
Somehow I managed to get 1st gen auds of this show back in like 89. Long story. Anyway, lemme tell you the Tower Theater was ROCKING! The energy is insane. Thank you for this & hello from Philly.
Nothing wrong with Donnas contribution here, too many people give her a hard time, try listenin to her sing sunrise studio or live..I believe she struggled with the volume of the band and had a hard time wailin loud enough tbh..shes a damn fine singer though.
In some respects: economically, politically, socially, spiritually. But today we're ∞ly better off technically, & have made progress in certain realms (women, people of color, GLBT folk are all *far* better off now -- which is why we must fight so hard to preserve the advances we've made). Environmentally, we're much more aware now. Economically, we've moved backwards. Imagine what we'll be able to do with our technical empowerment, once we've beaten the retrograde political / economic forces.
Great version of this moster suite. I Just wish Keith had taken more solos, Jerry's playing is great, but I think it would've been nice to hear keith riff on Franklins
alright, you bedwetter, youyou. pay attention. class is in session. the dead for YEARS set box office records for their shows, number of attendees as well as receipts. damn few acts were as successful. i dare you to name one modern band that could improvise like the dead. their repertoire numbered in the hundreds of songs played live. they played with anyone and everyone. its not that they are the best at what they do, they are theonly ones who do what they do. troll.
Absolutely love this version. Jerry's jams were superb and the vocals were especially great(let's be honest, none of them were the greatest singers), you know minus Donna.
I'd rather hear young jerry well youner i should say then donna anyday, Not that i dont like her voice but i think everyone knows she over does it sometimes lol. she does make dancing in the streets though like she was made to sing that shit lol
very good coke.. crack wasnt around yet, meth was hard to get. the bud was shitty, the LSD today is veryyy strong, same with da crank.. just go up to the haight ashbury park
Donna never met a song she couldn't ruin. There's a reason that they virtually mixed her out of everything they could--she's tone deaf. It's a travesty, too, because the Keith and Donna years were the band's most adventurous and she makes most of that live material unlistenable.
when I know she's about to belt out a cackle on a live playin or scarlet, i almost literally dive for the volume. i can take her on the mellow stuff, looks like rain, row jimmy, but anything where she gets into it is a killer
I was literally born on this day and it is my dream Dead show. I got to see the last show 7/9/95 and and grateful for that. RIP Jerry
Right on. May the four winds blow you safely home, brother.
You know why you love this? It's a Betty Board and Jerry is playing the Travis Bean.

The best version of this suite I've heard. Note perfect and lively, but not rushed like they did in 1977.
good version but “note perfect” is not a term I’d use to describe the Dead.
The sound quality here is absolutely tasty. Crunch crunch. Thanks for the perfect Bettyboard.
The best Franklin's in my humble estimation. Thank you so much for this essential jam!
6-9-77 - definitive
The song being performed into your ears is the help :)
IMPAZZISCO!!! Questa musica è bellissima! Magia allo stato puro..! Immensi Grateful Dead!

Betty Cantor was awesome, this is genius.
A tip of the hat to Bob Heil, engineer of the Wall of Sound.

Make Believe Ballroom made me love these songs. Long live the 70s! I'll listen to any version, any time.
Epic jam, just unbelievably good
Simply extraordinary. Perfection. Jerry's god, & Keith is especially astonishing here
Love Keith's piano.
Sounded phenomenal. Longtime Deadhead, 32 years. Thanx for posting this.
I Wanna Stop.... And thank U Jerry..
Bobby's guitar right here, blows my mind. this should be one of Dick's Picks. Epic. I'll listen to this forever. -Cush.

More More!! WE NEED MORE OF THIS MAGIC!
Gosh DAM Bro- One of the best ever, and I'm a 100+ show see-er (pre 1995 before the Grateful Dead ceased to exist)

The Help/Slip/Frank Trilogy is absolutely classic!
Somehow I managed to get 1st gen auds of this show back in like 89. Long story. Anyway, lemme tell you the Tower Theater was ROCKING! The energy is insane. Thank you for this & hello from Philly.
this is probably the most amazing jam i have ever heard.
Nothing wrong with Donnas contribution here, too many people give her a hard time, try listenin to her sing sunrise studio or live..I believe she struggled with the volume of the band and had a hard time wailin loud enough tbh..shes a damn fine singer though.
Was Donna especially off with Owsley’s over/under out-of-phase mics, when it seems like she could barely hear herself?
Her vocal contributions we're perfect for the sound they we're going for. Can't imagine their songs with any other singer, can you?
those chill bumps all down to me feet, smokin jerry!!!
Phenomenal performance!
(And in a pretty hifi bitrate, too! Yay!)
Thank you so much for promoting it here.
Thanks Bill Gray for the help on the way
Jhee whiz, this has to be my favorite performance of this medley.
best help/ slip/ franklins of all time
Not usually a big fan of help on the way, but damn, they did something right this time around.

Jerry's tubes are a screamin'
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the excellent drumming!
I'm getting ready to go Indiana to see Jerry's tiger guitar

goggled horrible music, and Greatful Dead came up!

Whatever dude. One of my favorite versions of Friend of the devil is done with her and Jerry. Not sure about dates an all but it was so lovely.
when I know she's about to belt out a cackle on a live playin or scarlet, i almost literally dive for the volume. i can take her on the mellow stuff, looks like rain, row jimmy, but anything where she gets into it is a killer
+D. Angus Vail hey she was actually pretty good in playing in the band on the europe 72 album.
+D. Angus Vail
