This is mind blowing that this is an audience recording. I bet the wall of sound sounded absolutely amazing back in the day. Man, the things i’d do to go back in time
My mother was 6 months pregnant with me at one of the '73 Universal Amphitheater Wall Of Sound shows. It's no wonder I saw my second of almost 80 shows in April of 1989, when I was 15. Great Chpina>Rider that Saturday night!!! Jerry teases the opening notes endlessly before jumping into it.
Wow!! I Cannot imagine what this was like live. This has been my Favorite China>Rider since I first heard it on the Grateful Dead hour with Mr David Gans many years ago. I've listened to it countless times since. Was fortunate enough to see 3 China>Riders, but they were nothing like this Transcendental Gem. Makes me :-) :-) :-)
Glitterystar it’s 11:45pm - 3/22/23 and like that warm February day where things didn’t quite go your way; I’m having the same little issue now. I stumbled upon this gem and all is right in the world again. ✌️my friend.
If I didn't know better, I'd swear this is a SBD. The clarity of the instruments and stereo separation is ridiculous for an AUD. Awesome that it is an AUD though. Big testament to The Wall of Sound. The playing is also phenomenal.
I was lucky enough to see them play on a tiny little. Not even a stage. Didn't matter. We danced. We danced we danced, not done dancing now except now. It's in the kitchen with the dog but I'm okay with that. Stay kind. My friends stay strange. It's a long strange trip no matter what
"AudMC > WAV > CD > EAC > SHN recorded by Jerry Moore near the rear of the floor, close to center axis.." Now, this 73y old and fan from day one wants to give his thanks. Once again :>)
By far my favorite China Cat Sunflower, if only for the intro, but even more. The 2 plus minutes after the first China note, before Jerry even starts singing is one of the more epic connected jams, all of them synced up, pure bliss.Dick’s Picks Volume 12, 6/24/74.
Well to be fair (and not taking anything away from the beauty of the music) Bob and Keith are playing China Cat for most of that, and they don't stray too far from it. Don't know about Phil.
I've been listening to this audience bootleg since 1974 - it's like a great piece of classical music. . .except it's all improvisational (of course). . .
This has an audience source mixed it and it's not a straight audience recording, it's mostly the SBD source and it's pretty obvious. Happy 50th anniversary, though! This is one of my favorite shows ever.

wanna date? I was a blanket-toss giirl at this show! Lots of fun!

You should talk to my Uncle Rico
Just exactly perfect.
I would actually date you because you went to this one cheers@@MyCleverHandle
Saw the Wall of Sound in Jersey City Roosevelt Stadium. The clarity of the notes was amazing.
Yes, I was there too and agree 1,000%! The clarity of that sound system.... WOW! Those were the days though, weren't they? 😊
I just listened to another version, also 1974, which I thought was the best version I had ever heard. And now I stumble across this....
I was there, just graduated HS. This is my all time favourite jam. Thank God for tapers & RUclips and the Grateful Dead for setting the music free.

I love this jam! So smooth and psychedelic!!!
Love all the 73/74 versions the best. This is by far my favorite. Excellent you got to see this in person!
I was there, too. Had just finished my junior year of H.S. Amazing night!
73, 74 were amazing years for the dead.
This isn't a soundboard. That's how amazing the Wall of Sound was, man.
Best china -> rider transition
not even close...but good anyway
The Grateful Dead at their best. I was 18. Back in the day the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band were my world.
The dead have done this medley countless times. This is special because of all the improvisation up front. Great sound thanks for posting !
One of my All Time Favorite pieces of Grateful Dead music Ever played. Ensemble playing at its Best.
One of the beat China/Riders of that era.
This China Rider is exactly what I needed today. 2/11/22. A warm February day where things didn’t quite go right but all is well.

Well how are things today you two?
the fantastic places you go when you follow the lovers of sound
Well of course this is wonderful! What else could anyone expect? A huge THANK YOU to the poster!
Amazing piece of Dead life and played on my birthday!!
Mars Hotel released the following day.
My first Dead show....Mind blowing.
My second. Had really good lower bowl seats in sec. 109. My first was just 9 months earlier - same venue.
As a professional soundman, I can say it brought tears to my eyes. Would have given a limb to be at the helm
What a PA. Phil said it was like piloting a space ship.
Not just the separation. The definition.

Matt W check out this version. The sound quality might even better. Agree with you, fabulous stuff!

cyclesmoking something's definetly missing :)
Jerry Moore did a great job taping this. The matrix version is my favorite. Was fortunate to have been there for this one.

My favorite kind of live recording. Off the board with the right touch of live mic
World Class. It gets no finer.

Hate to quibble, but DP#12 is from Boston Gardens 6-28-74. That's two days after this jam rather than two days before.
Wow, this is gorgeous.
These 74 China Riders OMFG they are epic and all different!
This is definitely up there in my chart!!
Sound quality is top notch

Faster we go, rounder we get!!
Best damn band in all the land!!😊
21 and now multiple tests ahead!
The COMPLETE band!!
Sounds like " not from this World " Grateful Dead can save this World 🫶
Phil and Jerry......wow
great show. Jamming on US Blues prior to vocals.
Great music
Yeah Billy
47 years ago, today
sweet sound
Does anyone else hear the guy saying f**k the dead about 5 secs into the recording?
He said “we wanna dance” with an accent
June 74 is it.

Yes pleaas

nug
How hard is it to cut out the nonsense at the beginning of these recordings for Pete's sake
This is going somewhere, trust us.
Not really a jam. More like noodling until they decide what to do next.
