      Lmao. I wish I was doing "something I love." When you grow up in a poor immigrant family, this is the career you're pushed into. Sure, I thought it was kind of cool as a 10 year old kid, an 18 year old freshman, even a 23 year old grad student, but now as a 26 year old M4, I absolutely hate all of medicine and want to retire as soon as possible. So basically the prime years of my life are gonna be spent torturing myself through work to get a good retirement, but by then I'll probably be a jaded, hurt, difficult person to be around. Such is life.

    I finished residency at 27 in IM (a long time ago), you do not need to finish college to medical school but probably should as a back up. My sister went to medical school in Canada in the early 80s and finished residency at 23 in family medicine so it can be done much quicker depending on what you want to do. I think the cost of medical school in the states is getting out of hand. One of my daughters is now a 3rd year medical student and has several hundred thousand dollars in debt already.

  • @yusufabulouz7525
    @yusufabulouz7525 2 месяца назад +7

    I am 22 years old and close to 23, and I hate degrees that dont make me money, and I hate the thought of having debt for religiously based reasons.
    So i am taking nursing right now. I will finish RN in 3 years, so i will be 25 study the MCAT and working as an RN, which will take a year to have a Bachelors (BSN) and my MCAT score at least a 515 or 520 maybe this process will take 2 years. Then i will apply and maybe get in if, after many tries, i dont get in great. I am still an RN and really can keep trying as long as i want. Or do Plan B, which is flight RN to CRNA. I will still be above 100k and, or even more.
    Total years = if It takes more than one year to pass the MCAT with a desirable score, then I will be 31 one or so after med school or if it takes only 1 year then i will be 30. Basically, i have the rest of my life after 30 or 31 to practice medicine at the level of a physician. That sounds great to me.

    We have a similar general structure, but shorter process in Canada. After high school, which last 5 years, not 6, so at 17 years old, we get to college. College is 2 years for programs leading to university like sciences, so leaving at 19. Then it's medical school, between 4 to 5 years depending on the program, getting a MD at 23-24 years old. Then residency, between 2 to 6 years depending on the medical field, becoming board certified between 25 (family medicine without a specialized Emergency training year) to 30 years old (for a 5 years med school + 6 years residency). Then optional fellowship depending on practice goals between 1-3 years added on top.

    I’d honestly day from third year med school and on you basically are starting your training clinically. It’s really not so bad. Or say internship year after med. that’s just 8 years. Only 6 years of pure classroom learning.
    Which yeah is a lot compared to no education, but it’s a specialized field and it can be fun and enjoyable if you actually like the content, which I hope you do if you do it as a career
