It's not just 4x4 drivers tracks. It's hiking tracks, camping grounds, and beaches. 😢 it breaks my heart when I see the state of these places with rubbish and damage people are doing to these beautiful places.
I'm disgusted every time I drive up the Hume, or the Western (Vic), or (pick a highway). The amount of cans, bottles, Macca's/KFC boxes and other rubbish is appalling. Gotta wonder about people.
Yep. Did one of the main hiking trails near the 3 sisters in the Blue mtns at Christmas time and we filled two back packs with empty water bottles thrown about. Disgraceful
Yep, it's happening abroad too. Two high altitude hikes I've wanted to do in the Indian Himalayas have been closed because of people trashing the places.
Possibly the most important video this channel has produced. We all have to do our part. We all need to be able to say to someone “ that’s not acceptable, what you are doing will close more tracks”. This issue effects more than just the 4wd community.
look i understand it but its hard to agree with the guys when theyve been doing nothing but bush bashing and shredding tracks up for the last however many years theyve been posting.... i agree with their point but i think their videos hold a lot of credibility for the way a lot of people 4wd
I dont think you understand the real problem they are identifying here, nor do I believe you have watched many of their videos and paid attention. Never have these boys left behind rubbish or car parts in the bush. Never have they not used a track that was not already made previously. There have been times when they have had to make a track due to the untouched area such as Northern Territory wetlands, however they all continued along the same path and if you think upsetting mud and gouging out tyre tracks is unacceptable, then I think you should start protesting the housing construction industry!

Yes the mining is u fortunate and will most likely be coming to a close with renewables and green power ect being a thing but it literally is young 4wd ruining a lot of spots for people
I'm 60 and been wheeling since I was 16. Trail/Tracks closers were a big topic back in the 70s and it has never stopped being a hot topic. It's been that way here in the states as long as I can remember. I've seen trails shut down and reopen as housing projects. I wish you the best in your endeavors.
If 4wders lower tyre pressures, on the track using less right foot, the track damage is minimal, but we just returned home from W.A. through N.T. back to Qld and in some camping spots, the rubbish and litter discarded 4wd parts beer cans etc poorly buryed toilets are a bloody disgrace Regional councils don't have the labour or budget to clean up these sites, we always try to clean things up in general we all need to better. Just my opinion.
Spot on the money imo mate. We did the Border track here in SA/Vic. a while back and it was the same story. One spot had a half buried dead double air bed that had obviously failed whilst another had a full garbage bag of cans and rubbish buried just below the surface that the local wildlife had found, dug up and spread all over the place. In some areas dheads had been doing circle work and tearing up the place and there were empty beer bottles scattered through the bush on some of the walking tracks. Unfortunately I also think that people watch the way that these guys use their vehicles and just want to copy them. Seems the footage has to get more extreme and stupid to keep folks entertained.

@@out4wd Yeah all good to say that climbing rocks and spinning wheels doesn't hurt tracks but the reality is that if you rip it up, even a bit, and it rains then there will be more washed away. Those "tough" tracks didn't get the way they did by not being driven on imo.
Here in the USA, we try to keep to the principal of 'Leave No Trace', as in let there be no trace of you being there other than your tire tracks or foot prints if you're hiking, ect... Most people that spend a lot of time in the wilderness stick to it very well, but we still have the same problems in our more popular areas where the city folk frequent. I've spent entire weekends going around to some favorite spots just picking up the trash left by others. You've got it right that we all need to do our part as avid off road enthusiasts, hikers, campers, hunters, ect...
I’m a 4wder myself and I have been for 25 years and always will be I also work for one of the largest land management companies in Queensland Good on ya 4wd24/7 for brining this topic up. We need influential people like yourselves to help the wider 4x4 community understand most tracks are only closed because of the grubs who don’t give a shit about anyone else other than themselves millions of dollars are spent across the state each year to repair and maintain fire lines to mitigate serious bushfire risk only to have a segment of the community do so much track damage during wet weather that they can be rendered useless as fire lines until you spend 10’s of thousands of $$ to repair them again. Who do they think pays for these repairs , sure as hell not the crowds who do the damage As a community we need to regulate ourselves better so we don’t continue down the closure route. People need to understand that there is serious money spent to repair unnecessarily damaged tracks
Thank you for drawing attention to this. It's all fun and games if you don't live in the area, but those of us who do rely on those trails being intact for firies when summer comes.
We need to do something like the USA did to keep tracks open. You guys mentioned that they took action and banded all 4x4 drivers together and cleaned up and reopened the tracks and now they are well looked after, now the American off road trails are cleaner than their cities 🤣 You guys at 4x4 24/7 have a huge following and we will all band around your lead. Maybe start a "go fund me" and we can get started!
Yes the tread lightly programs help, but to many will cry with thier cell phone camaera than lift a finger to clean up what they are crying about in the USA.

Indeed, I recently moved to France, next to the French Alps, there is almost 0 trails for offroading, everything is closed and pretty much illegal to off road. :/

Greetings to all from Las Vegas, NV in USA. I love your videos and what you are doing to educate all to change the culture in Australia. What I heard from fellow 4-wheelers when I started this hobby was “leave it better than you found it”. Its easy, and you see trash on the trail (tracks), you stop and pick it up. Most of us belong to a 4wd club and we have trail (track) clean up days a couple of times a year.
Sad to say, hand on heart any peanut in a GU or 80 series with a lift and muddies probably also watches your videos and acts like they can do the same with no consequences. We call ‘em 24/7 boys. It’s important you call this out and everyone does their bit to keep the tracks health and the camps clean.
when you guys came to mcbrides in Forster we had on average 30-40 4wd vehicles using the track on weekends, but after you did a story on the track we had over 300 vehicles a weekend and now its closed permanently, it was a unkown local track that a few people knew about, sadly you created an interest that just went viral after your magazine hit the shelf , its unfortunately a flow on from the mass discovery you create , same thing happened to the old coach road out of wisemans ferry and Wirraba ridge all closed due to large amounts of traffic after featuring in 4wd magazines prior to 4wd action, The destruction created by lazy 4wd people who leave rubbish or as in mcbrides case 4wd drivers trampled down a 20 metre section of natural vegetation to create a much wider entrance because they couldnt drive through the first obsticle at the gate ( thats actually the first clue that you shouldn't go any further )as well as the rubbish left behind and the road rules violations and noise as every muffler less 4wd charged up and down the hill leading to the entrance to Mcbides day and night , its a by product of the fame you bring to any location you feature
yeah i remember that, it's at cape hawke, i've only walked it but looked hardcore. And then the council completely blocked it off, they put in a mountain of dirt to block it off. Was wondering why they did that, now I know.
What you're saying is true and the people who ruin it for the rest should be banned. To be devil's advocate here though, in places like the Rubicon, Moab or even where I currently live in the Middle East, thousands of people use these trails/regions each weekend and none are close to being shut. I'm Australian and have lived there a long time, and I know for sure this is all because of the 'Nanny' state attitude in Australia and also doing whats good for their own pockets....I never realized how controlling the police and government are back home until I watched from the outside. Just like Shauno said, a track gets shut down on one hand and a mine with hundreds of drill rigs demolish the same bush on the other.
The irony of this episode is hilarious given their last Simpson episode they openly and illegally cut down trees with a chainsaw for a massive camp fire. They definitely need to look at themselves a bit more critically.

It went downhill when the hoon laws came in and every P plater switched from a modified Commodore to a modified Hilux. For the last 20ish years young blokes had been able to let loose in the bush away from the cops, but that is now also being cracked down on bigtime. The next step will be into motorbikes, you see it in the US now with takeovers, this will happen here soon enough because it's easy to run from the cops on a bike when there's 50 bikes going in all different directions.
As a local bloke in Charters towers Queensland I'm sick of cleaning up after people who Leave rubbish my mate and I haven taken ute loads away to the dump and being charged for 😢 but it takes one to stuff it up for all and the rest of the community but would all so thank you to all that do the write thing
Before you guys came to McBrides Beach it was pretty much just a locals things. Unless you knew it was there it would have been not even noticed. The best beach access track and sneaky camping spot all gone now.
Well said boys. Took my daughter up in the mountains 2 weeks ago and ended up bringing 5 bags of other people rubbish out from campsites. So disappointing.. also, will definitely line the 4x4 up on parliament house to show my support

I've been going on about this rubbish issue for years, I'm glad the lager channels are getting involved. I see it all the time Camping equipment to cans and glass all bunt in the fire. its a bloody total disgrace.

It's sad to see this happening everywhere. I live in southern tas and grew up in the bush. I am shocked at the amount of rubbish I have seen around our local tracks. Our 4wd group try our hardest to clean up what we see but the amount is ridiculous and we tend to get quite a few bags when we are out. We have all taught our kids to keep all their rubbish in the car / bag, it not that hard with the right education. We all need to pull our heads in and keep the rubbish in a bag not on the tracks.

You guys organise the rally/march. I will be there. A really important video this week. Have just started taking my 4yr old and 1.5yr old out 4wding and camping. They are getting to see stuff I didn’t as a kid. It’s an amazing experience watching them explore and learn out in the bush.
I just want to say thanks to 4wd24/7 for being a voice on this issue. In my time, I've seen tracks and campsites permanently close. But unfortunately I've seen the filth people leave behind too. Education is key.
I know you guys just drove Rubicon Trail in Northern Ca. We here had similar issues in 2012 and 2015. People driving the area out of bounds and ruining drainage areas and people dumping trash caused the local Councils ( El Dorado and Placer) to temporarily close the trail for extensive work. They almost did not reopen until the 4 wheeling community went to meetings and convinced them we will monitor activity and keep it clean. At the entrance at both ends to Rubicon a driver can pick up absorption pads to contain fuel and oil spills. Nobody now leaves any sign they have been there, we all pick up after ourselves because we know the County or the Forest Service could close the trails anytime we mess up.
Biggest thing in Victoria is the tracks are there too fight fires. You cant expect the departments to run comp trucks to be able to drive the tacks they need too to fight fires. It comes down too cost. You either doze a track 10 times a year at a high cost or put a gate on it and make it a management vehicle only track and doze it twice. Im in the camp of dont shut any tracks keep the bush open but if you see it from there point. Makes sence.
Just back from OTT and stayed overnight at Cockatoo creek… brake parts, scrap metal, broken mirrors.. and poo tickets, raw pop and disposable nappies everywhere. What a shame
As a US viewer this topic also directly applies to us as well. Informing people and cleaning up the outdoors is key to having these places open for future generations. I would hate to see Aussie tracks being closed so good luck with this endeavor.
Some ideas 1# once a month clean up trucks for popular spots around Aus. Apart from the wet season. 2# possibly paying a fee to camp and drive on tracks. Money is used to maintain camp sites and tracks. 3# being able to move obstructions from the road and cut fallen tree on the road to keep it clear with out getting in trouble. 4# Big bins in strategic points on the tracks or camp sites that can be removed weekly or monthly. Manly for people to put there rubbish when it’s hours from the nearest bins. 5# A clean up of metal parts and cars left in the bush. I don’t know exactly how it would work but it definitely needs to happen. Especially when you drive for 4 days to get up the cape and there nothing but burnt out cars and car parts everywhere.
I think they are good idea's but...2# possibly paying a fee to camp and drive on tracks. Money is used to maintain camp sites and tracks. you know that if a fee was placed, that money will never be used for maintenance. instead the government and councils will use it on other stuff, mainly in the large cities areas.
So many times recently in local areas I have come across people and watched them doing recoveries and having to remind them not to leave there rubbish behind . Bloody frustrating and also been a keen fisho always picking up after others along rivers with so much crap left behind . We all need to get on top of this 👍👍
100% agree we went down to robe in sa about a month ago the amount of rubbish down their is mind boggling me and a few mates went through multiple camp sites and cleaned them up its a good feeling to know your helping keep your passion alive
Yeah, they are constantly used as an example of how not to behave on the track's. The constant veiled speech by other 4wd youtubers referring to 'that 4wd channel'. The lack of self-awareness is a shame. Case in point, the fails segment had 4wds clearly off formed track's, private property or not, it's not a great look.
Have you ever thought the bog hole is the track the route around is an illegally made route from irresponsible drivers not wanting to hit the big hole? You should really close your mouth when you have no clue how these tracks are made
@jmumm422 Sure, there are countless examples of this, but there are equally numerous examples of a perfectly serviceable road next to the bog they are driving in. Both are equally likely to close tracks. The lay person in public office does not care about the difference, all they see is a 4wd limiter bashing in a mud hole and they think, " Gee, we really should restrict access to that road"

Last time I was at Jenowan I filled a bag of rubbish in the what, 300 meters between the office and the creek crossing. This isn’t even out bush, it’s the main road to the second camp ground. Grubs everywhere.

I have been a camping and 4WDing since 1980, A lot of the tracks are being closed by arm chair greens who have never been into the bush but this country belongs to all of us. if you are going to lead a protest to Canberra how can I join. lets not forget camping and 4WDing has been proved to help trouble kids as well as maintaining tracks for the fighting bush fires.
fire trails get shut mostly because of track damage and maintence costs. I've seen so many youtube 4X4 programs out wheeling in the rain or when the tracks are wet, spinning wheels and tearing up the tracks driving into bog holes getting stuck driving back and forth making it worse only to have to winch out anyway when they could of stopped and winched out when they first came to a stop and not dug the hole deeper 4WD24/7 does this alot just for the content. not a hater, love the show but practise what you preach guys.
Every wheeling vid shows some degree of environmental damage. It goes without saying that the vast majority of us are careful to reduce damage when and where we can.
Thank you for signing light on this. I’ve recently done the same regarding the issues with closure we see over in Norway and the rest of the Nordics. Sadly some self policing in the community is needed since this goes under the radar for regular people.
I'm probably going to get my head bitten off here, but monster trucks with big wheels and huge lifts, that destroy tracks to the point where emergency vehicles can't get through, are also a major reason for track closures.
It's not the rigs that are the issue as they actually cause less damage when driven properly. Is when there is a dickhead behind the wheel. Don't demonise the tool it's the operator who is the problem.
I watch multiple 4WD channels here in the states and almost without fail they all emphasize the concept of "Leave it better than you found it." That's a principle that I always try to follow when I'm out on a trail or campground. Keep up the good work, gentlemen.
My territory isn't 4wd but I prospect for gold in victoria so I spend so much time in the bush, I carry a bag with me to put rubbish in when I find it and take it home. I'd be shattered if we got shut out. I stand with u all.
With all the RUclips 4wd shows now it’s very rare to see any of them promote cleaning up after yourself. Dunny paper blows through these tracks like tumbleweeds and the way 90% of people drive on the tracks is a disgrace. It’s all about tearing the places to pieces so not surprised they’re getting shit down.
most if not all RUclips 4wd shows have the rip tear bust approach on all these tracks including 4 wd24-7. Flog the piss out of the tracks which are already in average condition is more fuel to the fire to close them down. But overall agree the gronks need to clean up their own rubbish

I just finished the old Tele track for the second time in 8 years. The difference between the times is devastating and will only get worse. Too much erosion from too many lines taken in the wet or early season. This will result in it closing eventually! Who is to blame? Shows like yours, where you make a thing of doing the hard tracks in the wet, without a care for the country is the cause.

As much as I love the show and the boys they have "influenced" a whole generation of people to cut loose on tracks for years without any messages apart from one clean up I saw awhile back. There are so many young fellas in lifted landcruisers and patrols with huge tyres carving up the countryside and leaving behind bundy and beer cans everywhere they go... :(
Agreed! I would also consider myself a greeny as well, even though I enjoy 4wd, hunting and camping. Respecting the bush and leaving it as pristine as you found it matters and is preservation!
I absolutely agree with what you guys said in the video. I live in North Queensland on the Tableland and very disgusted of all the rubbish that gets left lying around here. I am constantly picking it up. If only you could catch the people that are leaving it behind.
I’m very new to 4wd’s and have only been out a few times. It’s very sad to say the thing that stood out to me the most is the amount of rubbish that has been left everywhere. I would hate to lose these tracks before I get to see them. It’s safe to say that on all my next trips I’ll be saving plenty of space for everyone else’s rubbish on all my future trips.
I try to fill a trash bag when I'm out. But that's it. I'm not removing furniture and appliances. They really need to find a way to stick it to the people responsible for the mess.
When I see it now I look through it providing it doesn't look toxic to try and find any clues. I once found 2 items with the same last name and also a first name on something else, found them on Facebook and publicly posted with photos of the mess and calling them out. Fair to say people got stuck in and within 2 hours I had a private message asking me to pull it down. Fair to say I said I will go past there again at 6pm tonight and if it isn't cleaned up, not only will I leave the post up but also I will tag the EPA in the post. Rubbish was gone and the young bloke seems like he will never do that again as his mum was thr person who contacted me before he did.
Totally agree with you guys we need to protect our tracks and keep them open, count me in on the march to Parliament House . I was only at the lost city a year or so ago can’t believe it’s shut. Any campsite ot 4wd trail can be helped tremendously by a simple state of mind " leave it better than you found it" I'm 45 years old that is one thing my younger years taught me being involved with the now shunned boy scouts. If the places aren't a trash heap you have solid push back against closures.
My opinion on this tracks closing has been due to track distruction . Yeah the rubbish is a problem. How many youtube videos do we see with climbing track on full boar on the load peddle destroying the fire trail just to get veiws on youtube.
Track rally clean ups would make a good start.... Do you remember the Clean Up Australia days... garbage spike, rubbish bag and drink bottle, maybe a cage trailer or two
Not just rubbish but a bloke we seen on the OTT with a massive lifted 79, at least 35" tyres and towing a full size off-road caravan, it would have been sam creek or canal creek, but had a bump up, he couldn't get the van over the lip, 4 attempts (every time tearing up the track) the decided to hook up winch, was so much weight the winch couldn't do it, so he doubled over, and while winching he has the tyres turning at high speed in like low range 2nd or 3rd so was just spinning and tearing the crap out of the track finally got the car and van up but now made 35" ruts, and a pulled over tree, and just laughed.... I'm thinking "you just ripped the crap out of the track with 35" tyres and it will be impossible for someone with 31" tyres, AND NOW THERES NOT TREE to winch off either... No wonder the tracks get torn up so bad that responsible 4wders just can't do the track...
I said this on the Instagram reel and I’ll say it here the main reason for track closures is rubbish and people tearing up tracks and people going where they shouldn’t, combine this with a not responsible attitude and you have the current state of 4wding. There have been numerous clean ups done by genuine people and the legend Boe if you don’t know him he runs outback cleanups and should have been on this episode talking about his struggles and what he sees out there. Unfortunately there is such a disjoint from passionate 4wd owners who love the bush and respect it and flogs who couldn’t care less and trash it and as always it’s the 1% who destroys it for everyone.
I am from New Jersey on the east coast of the United states. We have a vast amount of land called the pinelands that's a unique ecosystem. We're dealing with the same problem having our rights taken away to access.

We have had issues in Northern California with MTN bike access years ago. The MTB community came out HUGE and balanced it out! Up In Canada in my Overland Rig now visiting the Arctic Ocean!! Canada is just smart with their open spaces as far as i can see. Garbage cans everywhere! loads of camping and tons of off road options!
Looking after the bush and the tracks is not just rubbish, it also covers how the tracks are being driven on. A lot of the blame has to go towards certain people that have a RUclips channel, who on a large portion of their videos, show themselves flogging the hell out of their vehicles and complete destroying the tracks behind them. Creating unnecessary ruts and digging holes with their wheels when bogged.
Oh please, most tracks get to how they are because people drive them hard. Its hardly the issue. The issue is exactly what shauno said, they close tracks under the guise of environmental land, the gov sits on it for 5 years then sell it off to foreign investors/mining companies. Anything within 2 hours of Sydney is being closed. Expect the circle to widen to 3 hours, 4 hours. Its the old thing, a few idiots ruin it for everyone.
I think rubbish being left in the bush plays only a minor role in why tracks get closed. I've worked in public land management and it's environmental damage that is the major problem. Most tracks are on public land (State Forest or National Parks mainly) and 4x4 driving is not the reason they exist. I have certainly noticed that numerous previously easy tracks in my area (Woolgoolga) now require a seriously modified rig to drive. There are many reasons why they get damaged but user error rates pretty high I reckon. Unless that changes, which I don't think it will, tracks will continue to be closed.

This is a great video, Here in Canada we have the same problem, it really bugs me seeing someone who really doesnt care about what they are doing, unfortunately we see this way to often with young people. A lot of great trails here in British Columbia Canada keep getting closed. We do have a dedicated group called Four Wheel Drive Association of BC that do their best but it always seems like the efforts get overriden by unrespectful people. We have a say here " Pack it in, Pack it out! "

Do like we do in the USA have groups adopt tracks for clean up and maintenance. We have a jeep beach cleanup in Washington state every September. Thousand of Jeeps come to Long Beach Washington and clean the entire beach in a weekend. You guys can do this and keep your tracks open
Land managers want tracks for their access. If tracks are chopped up enough that the land managers can't get through, then they either spend money to maintain them, or close them.
There are 4x4 clubs and other offroad clubs in the US that take trips and clean up days to keep the trails clean here. There are tracks here that are abused for sure, you just didn't see them while you were here. It is sad that human beings will not pick up after themselves.
This is a great video. Hopefully the folks watching will take this forward, and in a friendly way, talk to other off-roaders about how important is not only the right equipment but taking care of the trails is.
I’ve never seen the bush cleaner than it is today. It wasn’t so good in the 80’s. A lot of good work has been done in the last 40 years by the 4wd community. Keep it going Australia.
Was the manager of Murchison House Station for a few years, nearest city was Gero, 2 hrs away. I'm doing a water run and find a maccys bag in a the middle of the track. I was not happy.
Bollocks, I'm as green as most and 4WD all over and I call your comment horseshit. There are extremists on all sides so generalising is just sloppy thinking.
I'm not denying there are tools in 4wds ruining it for us but you could have spotless tracks and the green push is on to close all tracks regardless. Don't agree? That's ok. Ask the greens for their policy of highly modified 4wds entering national parks on dedicated, unmaintained 4wd tracks. At least we can agree something needs to be done.
I don't do it much any more but I used to do a bit of bushwalking around Sydney. Some of the rules National Parks were bringing in were that groups could be no larger than 8, to prevent damage and that dead wood was a resource (so no campfires).

You nailed it right on the head. The biggest issue is litter. If we don't learn to clean up after ourselves, we will lose these trails. I recently spent a week on Moreton Island, and I filled a garbage bag before I even set up camp. Don't destroy what you came to enjoy!

If you’re a greenie, Shaun, don’t drive our tracks in the early season and encourage others to only do it in the Dry I love 4wdriving but the crazy traffic in wet conditions is killing the tracks up here The Bogan Olympics will kill it for all of us

It's not just 4x4 drivers tracks. It's hiking tracks, camping grounds, and beaches. 😢 it breaks my heart when I see the state of these places with rubbish and damage people are doing to these beautiful places.
I'm disgusted every time I drive up the Hume, or the Western (Vic), or (pick a highway). The amount of cans, bottles, Macca's/KFC boxes and other rubbish is appalling. Gotta wonder about people.
Yep. Did one of the main hiking trails near the 3 sisters in the Blue mtns at Christmas time and we filled two back packs with empty water bottles thrown about. Disgraceful

As old Rex Hunt used to say "Don't destroy what you came to enjoy". Cleaning up after yourself is such a simple thing to do to keep these tracks open.

Possibly the most important video this channel has produced. We all have to do our part. We all need to be able to say to someone “ that’s not acceptable, what you are doing will close more tracks”. This issue effects more than just the 4wd community.

I dont think you understand the real problem they are identifying here, nor do I believe you have watched many of their videos and paid attention. Never have these boys left behind rubbish or car parts in the bush. Never have they not used a track that was not already made previously. There have been times when they have had to make a track due to the untouched area such as Northern Territory wetlands, however they all continued along the same path and if you think upsetting mud and gouging out tyre tracks is unacceptable, then I think you should start protesting the housing construction industry!

I'm 60 and been wheeling since I was 16. Trail/Tracks closers were a big topic back in the 70s and it has never stopped being a hot topic. It's been that way here in the states as long as I can remember. I've seen trails shut down and reopen as housing projects. I wish you the best in your endeavors.
If 4wders lower tyre pressures, on the track using less right foot, the track damage is minimal, but we just returned home from W.A. through N.T. back to Qld and in some camping spots, the rubbish and litter discarded 4wd parts beer cans etc poorly buryed toilets are a bloody disgrace Regional councils don't have the labour or budget to clean up these sites, we always try to clean things up in general we all need to better. Just my opinion.

We did the Border track here in SA/Vic. a while back and it was the same story.
One spot had a half buried dead double air bed that had obviously failed whilst another had a full garbage bag of cans and rubbish buried just below the surface that the local wildlife had found, dug up and spread all over the place.
In some areas dheads had been doing circle work and tearing up the place and there were empty beer bottles scattered through the bush on some of the walking tracks.
Unfortunately I also think that people watch the way that these guys use their vehicles and just want to copy them.
Seems the footage has to get more extreme and stupid to keep folks entertained.

@@out4wd Yeah all good to say that climbing rocks and spinning wheels doesn't hurt tracks but the reality is that if you rip it up, even a bit, and it rains then there will be more washed away.
Those "tough" tracks didn't get the way they did by not being driven on imo.
Here in the USA, we try to keep to the principal of 'Leave No Trace', as in let there be no trace of you being there other than your tire tracks or foot prints if you're hiking, ect... Most people that spend a lot of time in the wilderness stick to it very well, but we still have the same problems in our more popular areas where the city folk frequent. I've spent entire weekends going around to some favorite spots just picking up the trash left by others. You've got it right that we all need to do our part as avid off road enthusiasts, hikers, campers, hunters, ect...

millions of dollars are spent across the state each year to repair and maintain fire lines to mitigate serious bushfire risk only to have a segment of the community do so much track damage during wet weather that they can be rendered useless as fire lines until you spend 10’s of thousands of $$ to repair them again. Who do they think pays for these repairs , sure as hell not the crowds who do the damage
As a community we need to regulate ourselves better so we don’t continue down the closure route. People need to understand that there is serious money spent to repair unnecessarily damaged tracks

Yes the tread lightly programs help, but to many will cry with thier cell phone camaera than lift a finger to clean up what they are crying about in the USA.

Indeed, I recently moved to France, next to the French Alps, there is almost 0 trails for offroading, everything is closed and pretty much illegal to off road. :/

Greetings to all from Las Vegas, NV in USA. I love your videos and what you are doing to educate all to change the culture in Australia. What I heard from fellow 4-wheelers when I started this hobby was “leave it better than you found it”. Its easy, and you see trash on the trail (tracks), you stop and pick it up. Most of us belong to a 4wd club and we have trail (track) clean up days a couple of times a year.
Sad to say, hand on heart any peanut in a GU or 80 series with a lift and muddies probably also watches your videos and acts like they can do the same with no consequences. We call ‘em 24/7 boys. It’s important you call this out and everyone does their bit to keep the tracks health and the camps clean.
All the deadshits going from jap imports/drift cars to barra patrols.
As you noticed in the USA, if you pack it in, you must pack it out. I learned that when I was 8 years old in Boy Scouts, and have never forgotten it.
when you guys came to mcbrides in Forster we had on average 30-40 4wd vehicles using the track on weekends, but after you did a story on the track we had over 300 vehicles a weekend and now its closed permanently, it was a unkown local track that a few people knew about, sadly you created an interest that just went viral after your magazine hit the shelf , its unfortunately a flow on from the mass discovery you create , same thing happened to the old coach road out of wisemans ferry and Wirraba ridge all closed due to large amounts of traffic after featuring in 4wd magazines prior to 4wd action, The destruction created by lazy 4wd people who leave rubbish or as in mcbrides case 4wd drivers trampled down a 20 metre section of natural vegetation to create a much wider entrance because they couldnt drive through the first obsticle at the gate ( thats actually the first clue that you shouldn't go any further )as well as the rubbish left behind and the road rules violations and noise as every muffler less 4wd charged up and down the hill leading to the entrance to Mcbides day and night , its a by product of the fame you bring to any location you feature
yeah i remember that, it's at cape hawke, i've only walked it but looked hardcore. And then the council completely blocked it off, they put in a mountain of dirt to block it off. Was wondering why they did that, now I know.
What you're saying is true and the people who ruin it for the rest should be banned. To be devil's advocate here though, in places like the Rubicon, Moab or even where I currently live in the Middle East, thousands of people use these trails/regions each weekend and none are close to being shut. I'm Australian and have lived there a long time, and I know for sure this is all because of the 'Nanny' state attitude in Australia and also doing whats good for their own pockets....I never realized how controlling the police and government are back home until I watched from the outside. Just like Shauno said, a track gets shut down on one hand and a mine with hundreds of drill rigs demolish the same bush on the other.
The irony of this episode is hilarious given their last Simpson episode they openly and illegally cut down trees with a chainsaw for a massive camp fire.
They definitely need to look at themselves a bit more critically.

It went downhill when the hoon laws came in and every P plater switched from a modified Commodore to a modified Hilux. For the last 20ish years young blokes had been able to let loose in the bush away from the cops, but that is now also being cracked down on bigtime. The next step will be into motorbikes, you see it in the US now with takeovers, this will happen here soon enough because it's easy to run from the cops on a bike when there's 50 bikes going in all different directions.
As a local bloke in Charters towers Queensland I'm sick of cleaning up after people who Leave rubbish my mate and I haven taken ute loads away to the dump and being charged for 😢 but it takes one to stuff it up for all and the rest of the community but would all so thank you to all that do the write thing
Before you guys came to McBrides Beach it was pretty much just a locals things. Unless you knew it was there it would have been not even noticed. The best beach access track and sneaky camping spot all gone now.
Well said boys. Took my daughter up in the mountains 2 weeks ago and ended up bringing 5 bags of other people rubbish out from campsites. So disappointing.. also, will definitely line the 4x4 up on parliament house to show my support

I've been going on about this rubbish issue for years, I'm glad the lager channels are getting involved. I see it all the time Camping equipment to cans and glass all bunt in the fire. its a bloody total disgrace.

It's sad to see this happening everywhere. I live in southern tas and grew up in the bush. I am shocked at the amount of rubbish I have seen around our local tracks. Our 4wd group try our hardest to clean up what we see but the amount is ridiculous and we tend to get quite a few bags when we are out. We have all taught our kids to keep all their rubbish in the car / bag, it not that hard with the right education. We all need to pull our heads in and keep the rubbish in a bag not on the tracks.

Have just started taking my 4yr old and 1.5yr old out 4wding and camping. They are getting to see stuff I didn’t as a kid. It’s an amazing experience watching them explore and learn out in the bush.
I just want to say thanks to 4wd24/7 for being a voice on this issue. In my time, I've seen tracks and campsites permanently close.
But unfortunately I've seen the filth people leave behind too. Education is key.

I know you guys just drove Rubicon Trail in Northern Ca. We here had similar issues in 2012 and 2015. People driving the area out of bounds and ruining drainage areas and people dumping trash caused the local Councils ( El Dorado and Placer) to temporarily close the trail for extensive work. They almost did not reopen until the 4 wheeling community went to meetings and convinced them we will monitor activity and keep it clean. At the entrance at both ends to Rubicon a driver can pick up absorption pads to contain fuel and oil spills. Nobody now leaves any sign they have been there, we all pick up after ourselves because we know the County or the Forest Service could close the trails anytime we mess up.
Biggest thing in Victoria is the tracks are there too fight fires. You cant expect the departments to run comp trucks to be able to drive the tacks they need too to fight fires. It comes down too cost. You either doze a track 10 times a year at a high cost or put a gate on it and make it a management vehicle only track and doze it twice.
Im in the camp of dont shut any tracks keep the bush open but if you see it from there point. Makes sence.
Just back from OTT and stayed overnight at Cockatoo creek… brake parts, scrap metal, broken mirrors.. and poo tickets, raw pop and disposable nappies everywhere. What a shame
As a US viewer this topic also directly applies to us as well. Informing people and cleaning up the outdoors is key to having these places open for future generations. I would hate to see Aussie tracks being closed so good luck with this endeavor.
Some ideas
1# once a month clean up trucks for popular spots around Aus. Apart from the wet season.
2# possibly paying a fee to camp and drive on tracks. Money is used to maintain camp sites and tracks.
3# being able to move obstructions from the road and cut fallen tree on the road to keep it clear with out getting in trouble. 4# Big bins in strategic points on the tracks or camp sites that can be removed weekly or monthly. Manly for people to put there rubbish when it’s hours from the nearest bins.
5# A clean up of metal parts and cars left in the bush. I don’t know exactly how it would work but it definitely needs to happen. Especially when you drive for 4
days to get up the cape and there nothing but burnt out cars and car parts everywhere.
I think they are good idea's but...2# possibly paying a fee to camp and drive on tracks. Money is used to maintain camp sites and tracks. you know that if a fee was placed, that money will never be used for maintenance. instead the government and councils will use it on other stuff, mainly in the large cities areas.
So many times recently in local areas I have come across people and watched them doing recoveries and having to remind them not to leave there rubbish behind .
Bloody frustrating and also been a keen fisho always picking up after others along rivers with so much crap left behind .

100% agree we went down to robe in sa about a month ago the amount of rubbish down their is mind boggling me and a few mates went through multiple camp sites and cleaned them up its a good feeling to know your helping keep your passion alive

Both are equally likely to close tracks. The lay person in public office does not care about the difference, all they see is a 4wd limiter bashing in a mud hole and they think, " Gee, we really should restrict access to that road"

I have been a camping and 4WDing since 1980, A lot of the tracks are being closed by arm chair greens who have never been into the bush but this country belongs to all of us. if you are going to lead a protest to Canberra how can I join. lets not forget camping and 4WDing has been proved to help trouble kids as well as maintaining tracks for the fighting bush fires.
fire trails get shut mostly because of track damage and maintence costs. I've seen so many youtube 4X4 programs out wheeling in the rain or when the tracks are wet, spinning wheels and tearing up the tracks
driving into bog holes getting stuck driving back and forth making it worse only to have to winch out anyway when they could of stopped and winched out when they first came to a stop and not dug the hole deeper 4WD24/7 does this alot just for the content.

I'm probably going to get my head bitten off here, but monster trucks with big wheels and huge lifts, that destroy tracks to the point where emergency vehicles can't get through, are also a major reason for track closures.

My territory isn't 4wd but I prospect for gold in victoria so I spend so much time in the bush, I carry a bag with me to put rubbish in when I find it and take it home. I'd be shattered if we got shut out. I stand with u all.
With all the RUclips 4wd shows now it’s very rare to see any of them promote cleaning up after yourself. Dunny paper blows through these tracks like tumbleweeds and the way 90% of people drive on the tracks is a disgrace. It’s all about tearing the places to pieces so not surprised they’re getting shit down.
most if not all RUclips 4wd shows have the rip tear bust approach on all these tracks including 4 wd24-7. Flog the piss out of the tracks which are already in average condition is more fuel to the fire to close them down. But overall agree the gronks need to clean up their own rubbish

I just finished the old Tele track for the second time in 8 years.
The difference between the times is devastating and will only get worse. Too much erosion from too many lines taken in the wet or early season.
This will result in it closing eventually!

As much as I love the show and the boys they have "influenced" a whole generation of people to cut loose on tracks for years without any messages apart from one clean up I saw awhile back. There are so many young fellas in lifted landcruisers and patrols with huge tyres carving up the countryside and leaving behind bundy and beer cans everywhere they go... :(
Agreed! I would also consider myself a greeny as well, even though I enjoy 4wd, hunting and camping. Respecting the bush and leaving it as pristine as you found it matters and is preservation!
Only a (very) small channel here, but more than happy to throw our support behind the cause. There is nothing worse than seeing rubbish in the bush!!

I absolutely agree with what you guys said in the video. I live in North Queensland on the Tableland and very disgusted of all the rubbish that gets left lying around here. I am constantly picking it up. If only you could catch the people that are leaving it behind.
Tracks are closing for numerous reason. The most obvious one is grubs littering everywhere on the tracks. There is no respect for the land/tracks.

I’m very new to 4wd’s and have only been out a few times. It’s very sad to say the thing that stood out to me the most is the amount of rubbish that has been left everywhere. I would hate to lose these tracks before I get to see them. It’s safe to say that on all my next trips I’ll be saving plenty of space for everyone else’s rubbish on all my future trips.
I try to fill a trash bag when I'm out. But that's it. I'm not removing furniture and appliances. They really need to find a way to stick it to the people responsible for the mess.
When I see it now I look through it providing it doesn't look toxic to try and find any clues. I once found 2 items with the same last name and also a first name on something else, found them on Facebook and publicly posted with photos of the mess and calling them out. Fair to say people got stuck in and within 2 hours I had a private message asking me to pull it down. Fair to say I said I will go past there again at 6pm tonight and if it isn't cleaned up, not only will I leave the post up but also I will tag the EPA in the post.
Rubbish was gone and the young bloke seems like he will never do that again as his mum was thr person who contacted me before he did.
Spot on lads. Take care of your environment as much as you do your truck and it'll take care of you. It isn't bloody hard.
Totally agree with you guys we need to protect our tracks and keep them open, count me in on the march to Parliament House . I was only at the lost city a year or so ago can’t believe it’s shut.

Watching your latest vid right now. Any campsite ot 4wd trail can be helped tremendously by a simple state of mind " leave it better than you found it" I'm 45 years old that is one thing my younger years taught me being involved with the now shunned boy scouts. If the places aren't a trash heap you have solid push back against closures.
My opinion on this tracks closing has been due to track distruction . Yeah the rubbish is a problem. How many youtube videos do we see with climbing track on full boar on the load peddle destroying the fire trail just to get veiws on youtube.
Track rally clean ups would make a good start.... Do you remember the Clean Up Australia days... garbage spike, rubbish bag and drink bottle, maybe a cage trailer or two
Not just rubbish but a bloke we seen on the OTT with a massive lifted 79, at least 35" tyres and towing a full size off-road caravan, it would have been sam creek or canal creek, but had a bump up, he couldn't get the van over the lip, 4 attempts (every time tearing up the track) the decided to hook up winch, was so much weight the winch couldn't do it, so he doubled over, and while winching he has the tyres turning at high speed in like low range 2nd or 3rd so was just spinning and tearing the crap out of the track finally got the car and van up but now made 35" ruts, and a pulled over tree, and just laughed.... I'm thinking "you just ripped the crap out of the track with 35" tyres and it will be impossible for someone with 31" tyres, AND NOW THERES NOT TREE to winch off either... No wonder the tracks get torn up so bad that responsible 4wders just can't do the track...

I said this on the Instagram reel and I’ll say it here the main reason for track closures is rubbish and people tearing up tracks and people going where they shouldn’t, combine this with a not responsible attitude and you have the current state of 4wding. There have been numerous clean ups done by genuine people and the legend Boe if you don’t know him he runs outback cleanups and should have been on this episode talking about his struggles and what he sees out there.
Unfortunately there is such a disjoint from passionate 4wd owners who love the bush and respect it and flogs who couldn’t care less and trash it and as always it’s the 1% who destroys it for everyone.
I am from New Jersey on the east coast of the United states. We have a vast amount of land called the pinelands that's a unique ecosystem. We're dealing with the same problem having our rights taken away to access.
The best episode produced to date. Such a serious topic that needs to be addressed. We do need to stand up against track closures and keep our bushland clean

We have had issues in Northern California with MTN bike access years ago. The MTB community came out HUGE and balanced it out! Up In Canada in my Overland Rig now visiting the Arctic Ocean!! Canada is just smart with their open spaces as far as i can see. Garbage cans everywhere! loads of camping and tons of off road options!
Looking after the bush and the tracks is not just rubbish, it also covers how the tracks are being driven on.
A lot of the blame has to go towards certain people that have a RUclips channel, who on a large portion of their videos, show themselves flogging the hell out of their vehicles and complete destroying the tracks behind them. Creating unnecessary ruts and digging holes with their wheels when bogged.

The issue is exactly what shauno said, they close tracks under the guise of environmental land, the gov sits on it for 5 years then sell it off to foreign investors/mining companies. Get out there and drive the rig you built, stay on the track and pick up after yourself. Spinning a wheel on limi on a climb is not why tracks are closing lmfao

I wish you all the best in your mission to save the tracks. We have lots thousands of miles of them here in Alberta Canada the exact same way. My kids will never get to drive the trails I grew up on and we loose more every year. Join together and fight for all your worth !! Numbers get results!!!

Big ups, i dont get the chance to get out on all the tracks i want to and the thought of people in other states getting tracks blocked off that i want to visit disgusts me, everyone deserves the same opportunity to experience our country!
More videos like this will help educate people and give more people confidence to speak up to people doing the wrong things.

I think rubbish being left in the bush plays only a minor role in why tracks get closed. I've worked in public land management and it's environmental damage that is the major problem. Most tracks are on public land (State Forest or National Parks mainly) and 4x4 driving is not the reason they exist.
I have certainly noticed that numerous previously easy tracks in my area (Woolgoolga) now require a seriously modified rig to drive. There are many reasons why they get damaged but user error rates pretty high I reckon. Unless that changes, which I don't think it will, tracks will continue to be closed.

This is a great video, Here in Canada we have the same problem, it really bugs me seeing someone who really doesnt care about what they are doing, unfortunately we see this way to often with young people. A lot of great trails here in British Columbia Canada keep getting closed. We do have a dedicated group called Four Wheel Drive Association of BC that do their best but it always seems like the efforts get overriden by unrespectful people. We have a say here " Pack it in, Pack it out! "

Do like we do in the USA have groups adopt tracks for clean up and maintenance. We have a jeep beach cleanup in Washington state every September. Thousand of Jeeps come to Long Beach Washington and clean the entire beach in a weekend. You guys can do this and keep your tracks open
Land managers want tracks for their access. If tracks are chopped up enough that the land managers can't get through, then they either spend money to maintain them, or close them.

There are 4x4 clubs and other offroad clubs in the US that take trips and clean up days to keep the trails clean here. There are tracks here that are abused for sure, you just didn't see them while you were here. It is sad that human beings will not pick up after themselves.
This is a great video. Hopefully the folks watching will take this forward, and in a friendly way, talk to other off-roaders about how important is not only the right equipment but taking care of the trails is.
I’ve never seen the bush cleaner than it is today. It wasn’t so good in the 80’s. A lot of good work has been done in the last 40 years by the 4wd community. Keep it going Australia.

Was the manager of Murchison House Station for a few years, nearest city was Gero, 2 hrs away. I'm doing a water run and find a maccys bag in a the middle of the track. I was not happy.

Bollocks, I'm as green as most and 4WD all over and I call your comment horseshit. There are extremists on all sides so generalising is just sloppy thinking.
I'm not denying there are tools in 4wds ruining it for us but you could have spotless tracks and the green push is on to close all tracks regardless. Don't agree? That's ok. Ask the greens for their policy of highly modified 4wds entering national parks on dedicated, unmaintained 4wd tracks.
At least we can agree something needs to be done.
I don't do it much any more but I used to do a bit of bushwalking around Sydney. Some of the rules National Parks were bringing in were that groups could be no larger than 8, to prevent damage and that dead wood was a resource (so no campfires).

You nailed it right on the head. The biggest issue is litter. If we don't learn to clean up after ourselves, we will lose these trails. I recently spent a week on Moreton Island, and I filled a garbage bag before I even set up camp. Don't destroy what you came to enjoy!
