I said this on the WAi reddit too, but Awa in te reo Māori (the Māori language) means 'river'.
Rivers are very significant in Māori culture. They are often considered tribal ancestors and hold deep meaning and reverence. There is a deep obligation to care for and protect our awa.

You kids and your wolf husbandry and your fancy enclosures. Back in my day all we had to take care of a wolf was mammoth meat, a cave and a stick, and they had to share the cave with a Homotherium pride!

I need to get in contact with a cat rescue. I take care of 9 ex street cats. 5 in my garage and 4 in my house. They’re peachy. Fixed vaccinated, happy af.I used my own money to fix like 30 cats. I can’t keep up. I’ve found probably 30 cats home and while that’s awesome I’ve exhausted every home I can find. There’s one local cat rescue and I’m in talks with them but their hands are so full. People just abandon cats there. They have 250 cats. I can’t give them one. It’s just a matter of weeks until I find abandoned kittens that will have to go somewhere, for their own good. I’ll foster them and better their odds of finding a home but they’ll have to go to the local shelter that is not a No kill shelter. Unless I find a rescue in the tri state area.. I’ve been helping out for years. It’s a miracle I haven’t had to do this before, but that times coming
composting is great everyone who can and uses soil should do it but you need to do research on what to put in just like wich stuff can decompose in the area you life in (sorry for my bad english non native)
I'm so happy because it means Alveus has enough money to expand, otherwise they wouldn't be eligible to take care of more animals

I visited a wolf sanctuary a few summers back and ever since then it has been my dream job, sadly I can’t think of many qualifications i would have to work at a facility

wolves are so cool, growing up I would basically drown myself in research about wolves ever since I was 6 (I'm 19 now, 20 later this yr in September) and been obsessed w them since then, I have a few wolf statues I got from a teacher I had in elementary school and every day she would give me a statue of a Wolf since she knew I loved them and she had a big box of wolf statues and even did a science fair project on them in elementary

depending on how wolf/dog food differs, Steve’s is a very nice raw dog food option. very simple ingredient panel and you can get them in 20 pound bulk boxes. The brand is also very invested in sustainability, i believe they use mostly if not exclusively renewable energy sources to power their facility, and they also use a lot of local ingredients close to their facility. they’re also fairly cheap when it comes to a raw dog food option, but like i said i don’t know how much the nutritional requirements differ between wolves and dogs and what would be sustainable for the wolves.

Taking care of wolves is a massive liability, non of the other animals in the sanctuary comes close to the danger wolves present.

Mulch piles work better when they're bigger, you need what's called minimum thermal mass....depends on what you are composting but for leaves it's like 4x4x3..... bacteria cultures can really boost it too.... We tried one of those plastic things before and it was plastic waste.

I'm currently taking college courses towards a zoology degree actually. I would love to work for a sanctuary like yours to help animals and teach others about the animals and the impact they have. Any advise or opportunities would be appreciated ^ ^.

I really dunno if Maya or any staff will see this, but are people allowed to schedule a visit or something? I'm in Texas as well and I'm fascinated by all the animals you have and would love to see them in person, but ofc I also understand if that isn't possible due to safety/security reasons or even just because you may not want visitors

Historically yes, nowadays no. Theres only about 5 states left where they haven't been hunted to extinction yet.
