It’s so cool that they are building enclosures up to AZA standards. It makes me think of my time working at the National Zoo in DC. It really takes a lot from dedicated passionate people to do these things right and Alveus seems to be doing just that.
This is an incredible enclosure, Maya. Rivals some big AZA institutions I've been lucky enough to tour. The wolves are lucky to be coming to spend the rest of their lives in your care.
Regarding the tiny house video mentioned at the beginning: youtube algorithm recommended that to me like the day it released, I guess because it knows I watch Maya. It's not uncommon either, I get recommended other channels' videos that contain people I'm subscribed to a lot.
you should see if butchers can get a tax break for donating meat whilst alot of companies wont care about ur sanctuary they might care if they can save money by doing so
what they can do is donate money to get the tax break if it works the same as the uk then the sanctuary use's that money to buy meat from their shop /butcher that way all the liability of the meat fulls on the sanctuary
@@dinoroar1377Butchers try not to have scraps. Scraps are turned into ground meat, sausage, etc. bones are sold for soup/broth. Now maybe they’d be more lenient on selling food at or past its sell by date but I think it’d all depend on the butcher.
I rarely leave comments but I just need to say that I have been LOVING the Alveus streams and collabs and what you do for Animal Conservation and Welfare is truly incredible. Thank you so much to everyone working at Alveus Sanctuary !! 💗✨
It's so freaking cool to see what maya is capable of. I'm not saying this to shit on other creators but like some of them gamble away their money etc. but she actively chooses to do this! She could keep all the money she makes and it would be completely fine but instead she keeps making alveus grow more and more! It's so motivating and inspiring
I finally saw my rock! I'm so excited for the wolves to arrive. This came together so quickly, I'm so proud of Maya and everyone at Alveus. You guys are incredible 💜
@mayahiga I know there are parts of Texas that have a feral pig problem. There are companies that cull the pigs. Maybe you can reach out to them to see if they can donate the meat.
I work in the land down unda as a civil contractor (site engineer), and whenever I need to get our work certified I get the same councilmen come in. I have a similar ritual with them now where we dance towards eachother and shake hands. Its always so fun seeing others do similar.
I knew of/about? you before the tiny-home video, but after the video I actually came and watched some of your videos/streams to see some more, greetings from germany~
I find it crazy why chatters complain about the cost and comment rudely about how she shouldn't "waste "money. It's like, don't you want the animals to be comfortable? These animals are not just some household pets that you can just spend 17 dollars on and call it a day (which, if you're just spending 17 dollars to take care of an animal, you probably aren't caring for it properly). The assholes in the chat don't realize the big picture of having a habitat for a wild animal is a big investment and Maya is doing an amazing job by getting the best quality features to keep the animals and humans safe. Like she mentioned in the video, this habitat has a dual purpose and can be used for other animals after the wolfs have passed.
It's great that the enclosure is AZA standard. Zoos and Wildlife Rescues may not take this as seriously if Alveus weren't AZA standard and good for future partnerships.
I feel like an idiot that my first thought was "She shouldn't get wolfs, they're super dangerous!" not remembering that she is a literal professional who's knowledge FAR outstrips mine on the subject.
The enclosure itself shows she and her people know what they're doing. I used to work at a facility with several species of big cat and we used the same kind of switch run system to protect them and us.
theyre dogs that have wolf blood and wouldnt survive in the wild due to humans just like how wolves became dogs. the evolution of the grey wolf is amazing.
I wonder if slaughter houses or meat farms would be willing to work with you guys. I know its sad, but I think sometimes there are animals on those farms that need to be put down, but their bodies cannot be sold for human consumption meat. Or maybe they would just be more willing to help out, make a donation, and write off the cost on their tax returns. Hopefully local butchers also have the same idea. They don't have to give you expired meat, if they feel bad about it. But SOON to be expired should be fine. Sucks that the grocery stores were so difficult about it.
the tv show Forged in Fire works with alot of pig and goat carcasses, and are openly proud about donating the whole animal after the show to their local wolf sanctuary. it's good pr for them as it shows the carcasses are not wasted. it's a shame to hear the supermarket stores would rather throw the meat away. some animals tho are euthanized by injection which obviously can not be consumed afterwards.
The 'liability' argument used by grocery stores is actually completely incorrect. Grocery stores cannot be sued for donating food, even if it is expired. It's actually more of an assumption that they can get in trouble for donating on their part. I used to work at a cafe/hotel/university during covid, and we had a ton of food left over that wasn't expired, but no one would accept them as a donation even though our legal team assured us that it was completely fine and within the law to do so. We were trying to donate to a soup kitchen in the area, but they said they wouldn't take our food so it all ended up going to waste. Not sure if it's the same for Texas, as I live in a different state (that is also very conservative, meaning I doubt its that different for Texas).
10 thousand years into the future and whoever find those rocks are going to be so confused! Why is this rock named Cock & Balls? What does that mean?!?!
they'd assume it was graffiti. Theres names of workers written on the great pyramids which were built over 4000 years ago. Humans are really predictable and despite what we think we havent changed that much over the past 6000 years.
there needs to be a third party middleman who takes all legal liability and possession for disposal. then the disposal is impossible to track back liability. super common in some parts/chains
I think the wolves have been living together for years, which is why they're coming as a pair. Not 100% sure, but they definitely already know each other
really sad to see that supermarkets are too scared to donate meat, it's so overproduced yet giving away the one that expires soon is a potential liability... food waste is the worst, so many dead animals for... nothing :(
Unfollowing someone because you're no longer interested in their posts is not toxic or sad. You're unlikely to be engaging with posts you don't like anyway, and keeping a clean feed reduces the time you spend scrolling through it.
Maya has said b4 that she isn’t very animated speaker. Don’t take it the wrong way, this is just a chill stream where she doesn’t have to put on a performance.
They are Grey wolf/Domestic dog (Canis lupus/familiaris) hybrids, so would be a pollutant to wild Grey wolves, they are captive born and raised, both males (that would be a hard start to begin with), also in their older years with no hunting experience, they would most likely be attracted to Human environment for food and be shot as a result, freeing them is a death sentence.

It got recommended to me right after I watched her collab with Julien lol. It was the very next video recommended.
the tiny house tour also has 1.4 million views rn so more than double the 600k which was more than she thought

They're worried about liability. A tax break wouldn't be worth it.
Couldn't both parties just sign a release or weaver of some sort?
what they can do is donate money to get the tax break if it works the same as the uk then the sanctuary use's that money to buy meat from their shop /butcher that way all the liability of the meat fulls on the sanctuary
