I grew up watching his videos in middle school, and it was awesome how he was both down to earth and always willing to challenge our assumptions about society. It's almost poetic that 10 years later, as I'm going through a lot of life changes as a young adult, that he comes on to share his authentic self on the internet. I wish the best for you, old buddy, you've gone through a lot, and we're here for you.
I am absolutely the same! I really engaged with the last couple of American elections through Hutches stream! I was essentially chased out of his chat at some point when Trump was president so I stopped watching entirely but I still value his input etc. and its incredibly nostalgic to me, thinking about how RUclips has changed, alongside Hutch's content.

The idea that human beings can show each other such love, tenderness, and empathy to the degree evidenced by this video, like, idk man, it's just beautiful. Struggling today on the anniversary of 9/11 as former NYer, feeling the collective grief of the pandemic, a breakup that I'm still grieving wishing I had said or done things differently and aging parents. It's a lot but underneath it all is the feeling of not being enough and deeply rooted self worth issues probably fueling this grief. These sessions are so incredibly helpful to process and work through everything. "Now that you got in- nothing is going to hold you back." Knowing Dr. K's story that hit me. Haven't cried this much since watching Mitch Jones' latest session.

This is one of the Dr. K videos I relate with the most. I'm fine now, but what Hutch describes takes me back to when I had horrible anxiety, depression, anger, and some psychosis to boot. It's also very interesting because Hutch is a youtuber I would watch a lot around that time of my life, together with several of the other Machinima guys, so I have a lot of admiration for him too. I guess that's why seeing specifically him makes this resonate with me a lot, whereas I don't really feel that with the other youtubers/streamers that Dr. K talks to.

Every night the last month me and my dad spent together before he died I keep thinking of it. I did not think he would be gone that fast. Watching somebody just be gradually consumed by this invisible disease, and you have to ask your own dad what he wants you to do for his funeral… it happened 3 months ago. When I saw Hutch in the title I immediately knew this was going to be an incredibly insightful talk. I still remember when he put out his first video about his mental health and wellbeing who knows how many years ago, and talked and just laid it all out onto the table.
I watched Hutch videos back in '08-'09 when I was just starting high school... I'd come straight home to see if Hutch, Seananners, OnlyUseMeBlade, Mr. Sark or Woodysgamertag had uploaded (among a few others) which they normally did. This was before I had my own console but I'd watch closely in how they moved around the maps and took mental notes of how they played... I also really enjoyed listening to the topics relevant at that time when they commentated over gameplay, oh how I miss the dual-comms. Anyway, I stopped watching all these channels around 2014-2015 and I haven't REALLY thought about them since... Fast forward to today, I've only heard of HealthyGamerGG like a week and a half ago and saw him talking with a lot of big names and was surprised I never heard of him before; he blew up so fast... Now he's talking with Hutch!?!?!? I know it's not really coincidental but in my mind I'm just thinking "what are the chances!"... Hutch also looks so much healthier now; he looked like a crackhead half a decade ago; great turn around! My grandfather passed away back in like 2012, i was 17 at the time, and I became guilty at that moment because I realised there was a lot of things that I wish I had talked to him about. I would be present in the room he was in, before dementia started taking his mind, but I wouldn't talk to him. A lot of the time, it was because he was watching his TV shows, but I always remember him asking me questions and trying to get my attention. And I wish that I would've put my laptop down at times and just spoke to him, asked him questions about my grandma, asked him questions about his life and what he thought and the things he thought about. He was also a man of a few words, but having just turned 28 a few days ago and listening to this interview, I not only remember that, but I started to place myself in Hutch's shoes and think about my own sister and what I would say or what I would do if I found out tomorrow that she's about to die. And for a few minutes after they stopped crying, I couldn't stop. I've watched Jericho for a long time and Hutch sometimes plays with Jericho and they've done CoD events together and stuff, and that's how I've known hutch so my heart also goes out to him on that front, but man... This interview really kicked my ass lmfao

This one meant a lot for me. I grew up on Hutch’s content and always appreciated his openiness about his mental health and the hardships he has gone through. Really hope they can talk again in the future because they had such good conversation.
This is so relatable to me. I have guilt that I don’t know how to process. My friend passed in 2021 and I hadn’t seen her in a couple years and I’m not good at phone calls, too much social anxiety. I know she was isolated when she passed because she deteriorated quickly and was bedridden in her early 30s, and of course, COVID happened. I also didn’t have much to say to her because she wasn’t a good friend in the years before we lost contact which was around 2018/2019. I’m not good at connecting with people in the best of times; I need to feel like I can trust my friends and I didn’t have that feeling with her. Maybe I should have tried harder to connect with her to but I felt uncomfortable and uneasy. I didn’t think she would pass so young and sometimes loneliness speeds up deterioration. I have lots of empathy, I’ve known loneliness, but I just didn’t pick up the phone. I wish I was more mature and went out of my comfort zone when it’s the right thing to do.
Not gonna lie, i clicked because i watched hutch back in the day, and fuck does this is home so much, im in tears because what hes feeling is what i was suppressing when my grandpa died the past December. took till watching this that i was just numb from it all. i disconnected myself and havent been the same since. this content might be niche but god does it hit different and help so many just realize things about themselves they arent even aware of

I am so sorry to hutch for having experienced these things the way he has. I lost my father to covid in December and have unfortunately felt very similar experiences to his for many reasons. I just wanted to comment that what Dr. K says around 39:00 is incredibly important. This was exactly what my dad went through - he had to fight because everyone sent him hopeful messages (he was also hospitalized in Covid times) . I was the only one who simply told him some stories from my childhood and how I remember us getting closer (he was my step dad, but since I was little, so for me he was MY dad, but I still remember getting to know him). I didn't WANT to tell him to fight because I was pretty sure, once he got on the ECMO, that he wouldn't make it. So I just wanted to give him some good feelings of nice memories, and knowing that I'll remember him like that. And yeah, it's fucked up that we weren't allowed to go in there and say good bye in person. I really wish I could have held his and my mum's hand when she allowed him to go. Or go to the funeral (I live far away, but I didn't wanna travel in Covid times because I might have carried that shit around, I took it very seriously bc I didn't want anyone else to get it and possibly die, like my dad did. Also, when talking about medical school / words that have impact, I had to think of my friend who's friend passed away from cancer, too. This was after my dad passed, and we just connected over talking about what "unsensitive" things people around us sad about us grieving. We each cried a bit, and we didn't have to find words for simply knowing that we understood each other, and that our grief was accepted by the other. It was incredibly impactful on me and, probably, her. Thanks for reminding me of that. Grief can connect people. Like Hutch said, the world still is beautiful. Even with death.
I love this. Hutch is ABSOLUTELY one of the OG's of the RUclips gaming realm. I wish I could put "absolutely" in 5000 text size. So for people like me, this hit almost personally because of how close I've followed Hutch for 10-12 years....
I wonder if Dr. K knows about or uses IFS techniques. When he is talking at around 25 minutes in about the different voices in your head, "that sounds like a different voice" stuff, reminds me of when I do IFS sessions with my therapist.

And I wish that I would've put my laptop down at times and just spoke to him, asked him questions about my grandma, asked him questions about his life and what he thought and the things he thought about. He was also a man of a few words, but having just turned 28 a few days ago and listening to this interview, I not only remember that, but I started to place myself in Hutch's shoes and think about my own sister and what I would say or what I would do if I found out tomorrow that she's about to die. And for a few minutes after they stopped crying, I couldn't stop. I've watched Jericho for a long time and Hutch sometimes plays with Jericho and they've done CoD events together and stuff, and that's how I've known hutch so my heart also goes out to him on that front, but man... This interview really kicked my ass lmfao

This one meant a lot for me. I grew up on Hutch’s content and always appreciated his openiness about his mental health and the hardships he has gone through. Really hope they can talk again in the future because they had such good conversation.

This is so relatable to me. I have guilt that I don’t know how to process. My friend passed in 2021 and I hadn’t seen her in a couple years and I’m not good at phone calls, too much social anxiety. I know she was isolated when she passed because she deteriorated quickly and was bedridden in her early 30s, and of course, COVID happened. I also didn’t have much to say to her because she wasn’t a good friend in the years before we lost contact which was around 2018/2019. I’m not good at connecting with people in the best of times; I need to feel like I can trust my friends and I didn’t have that feeling with her. Maybe I should have tried harder to connect with her to but I felt uncomfortable and uneasy. I didn’t think she would pass so young and sometimes loneliness speeds up deterioration. I have lots of empathy, I’ve known loneliness, but I just didn’t pick up the phone. I wish I was more mature and went out of my comfort zone when it’s the right thing to do.
How are you guys getting through this? I need to stop every 15 min to keep my composure. It's so hard not to feel for both Hutch and Dr K.

Not gonna lie, i clicked because i watched hutch back in the day, and fuck does this is home so much, im in tears because what hes feeling is what i was suppressing when my grandpa died the past December. took till watching this that i was just numb from it all. i disconnected myself and havent been the same since. this content might be niche but god does it hit different and help so many just realize things about themselves they arent even aware of

I am so sorry to hutch for having experienced these things the way he has. I lost my father to covid in December and have unfortunately felt very similar experiences to his for many reasons. Woah seeing Hutch here is very nostalgic
I just wanted to comment that what Dr. K says around 39:00 is incredibly important. This was exactly what my dad went through - he had to fight because everyone sent him hopeful messages (he was also hospitalized in Covid times) . I was the only one who simply told him some stories from my childhood and how I remember us getting closer (he was my step dad, but since I was little, so for me he was MY dad, but I still remember getting to know him). I didn't WANT to tell him to fight because I was pretty sure, once he got on the ECMO, that he wouldn't make it. So I just wanted to give him some good feelings of nice memories, and knowing that I'll remember him like that.
And yeah, it's fucked up that we weren't allowed to go in there and say good bye in person. I really wish I could have held his and my mum's hand when she allowed him to go. Or go to the funeral (I live far away, but I didn't wanna travel in Covid times because I might have carried that shit around, I took it very seriously bc I didn't want anyone else to get it and possibly die, like my dad did.
Also, when talking about medical school / words that have impact, I had to think of my friend who's friend passed away from cancer, too. This was after my dad passed, and we just connected over talking about what "unsensitive" things people around us sad about us grieving. We each cried a bit, and we didn't have to find words for simply knowing that we understood each other, and that our grief was accepted by the other. It was incredibly impactful on me and, probably, her. Thanks for reminding me of that. Grief can connect people. Like Hutch said, the world still is beautiful. Even with death.

Hey so, I can oddly empathize with Hutch on his feelings of loss from my experience with a loss of an emotion. Weirdly, I was grieving over the loss of a negative emotion that had a huge influence in my life. I can understand what Hutch is going through, its tough :(

Much respect to Hutch for sharing. Never heard of him until today but it's clear he's grown a lot. Seeing his face while recounting everything with his sister is devastating to me because I immediately put myself in his shoes. Just imagining the pain of that whole experience and the guilt he felt is too much for me.
