Not a terrible little printer, but for that money you'd expect a lot more in all honesty - the Ender 3 will get you better res and a larger print bed at £70 cheaper for example! Interesing choice from Humbrol though! Edit - forgot to mention, pritt stick is a great build plate adhesive to stop the raft coming up! Could also be that the extruder is starting the print too far away from the build plate, though looking at how the printer's built, it doesn't seem clear if levelling the bed is possible

I have several 3d printers - mainly Flashforge brand. You may need some adhesive spray to help the filament stick to the bed - or use a prit stick. I think some people also use hair spray. Higher end 3d printers would have a heated bed which also helps with filament adhesion. PLA (which this printer uses) does not need such a hot print bed. When leveling the bed, I feel for when the nozzle feels like it is dragging on the paper.
I have just ordered this printer for £128 off Airfix - it comes with four extra rolls of PLA filament (250g reels). I think it will fit inside, on the print bed of my Flashforge Guider 2s!

It surprised me how small this is - especially given the price. I know my ender 3 S1 isn't exactly cheap (£300) but seeing as Humbrol are asking £200 for this tiny printer I would be inclined to save up and spend the extra on a more functional system...

Interesting video. I took the plunge this past Summer with a Sovol SV01 filament printer. It was $250 US shipping included. It can do 240mm x 280mm x 300mm tall parts. I had issues getting the prints to stick to the bed. My bed is similar to your Humbrol one. A UHU glue stick solved the problem, but it's not the ideal solution. The problem you get is when the plastic cools too quickly and starts to curl up like you first print did. I use the Prusa Slicer program, which is a free open source program that has many features that let you tweak things in order to improve print quality. I believe they have a version for the Mac. I learned so much by watching others on RUclips troubleshooting 3D printer problems. The is a learning curve involved, and I had several failed prints before things improved. There are just so many variables like type of filament used, nozzle temperature, cooling fans, print speed, etc. Another thing to note is that the .stl file doesn't print directly from the card to the printer. It uses a g-code file generated by the slicing software. Thanks for making the video!

£200 wow I’ve been looking at a smaller resin printer for around £100 it’s only big enough for figures and small details but it’s all I would need it for as space is a premium in my room. With the small team at humbrol they should be on concentrating on adding more paint and refining what they already have. They are just trying to jump on a market that is already flooded with better quality items.

I'm not up to speed with the world of 3D printing but I thought that filament printers don't have the best resolution.

Yup you are correct, the idea behind products such as these are that they are plug n play entry level items. You do after all pay a premium for that ease. You have been let down and once again the Airfix/Humbrol business is just failing it’s customers!
What sits on your bench right now is rubbish: without the software you cannot run this to the max! Now I don’t know if you can sort out the bottom corner print issue in the app or not however you shouldn’t be having it regardless.
£200 is not cheap but it’s not expensive either it sits in that annoying area between the £550-600 units and the sub £100 true 1st time owners. You will never get a really smooth clean print (well I really doubt) from this but it will help you get an idea if 3D is for you and it will have a value if you you want to sell it.

To stop the raft lifting off the build plate during printing,, you can get a special tacky glue stick to put on the bed before starting to print. It doesn't look bad, but for £200 I would have thought it would be wi-fi enabled. I have a Flashforge, which is a similar design, wi-fi enabled, and much easier to level. Hope this helps.

As for the tech itself... it's like any other tool.
It's not a one size solve everything tool.
It's about what you want to achieve from it, but also accepting it's limitations.
If cutting lumps of old pallet wood on a bandsaw makes the best model G scale sleepers, do that.
Then simple deny the existence of 5 tons of sawdust in your kitchen.
If you want a 1/72 scale figure so detailed you can see his nasal hair, it's a 3d resin print.
Then deny why your sofa is now encased in non removable grey plastic.
If you want a 1:12 scale body for a doll, filament print it.
Then deny why you invested your family's entire savings into buying sandpaper and soldering irons.

Humbrol need to sort their shiz. They done a good job with their gen 2 paints but a lot of the other hobby accessories are a bit meh. They are charging premium prices for average product in a lot of cases. I want and expect more from this British company. All serious 3D printers for scale modelling and minis seem to be about resin. Results show it.

An interesting idea. Imagine if a model kit company sold a 3D printer like this, that not only reads normal gcode but uses a proprietary digital rights encoded version that this & maybe other similar printers can read. The user purchases the file, which downloads to the printer directly & is encoded with the specific machine ID (so it can’t be passed around illegally), after say 2 prints the files can no longer be read.

    looks cute
the question only what it can do and what it can't
1 it is not a resin printer it is a filement printer (much lower resolution and lower quality printing)
2 if it has no heated bed it is waste of money
3 if you have printer profile you can use whatever slicer program (not splicer) cura, prusa slicer and so on or something comercial that can produce suported by printer machine code (mostly standarized gcode)
4 stl file is a geometry file and printer only work with program file generated by slicer software and the way it pick wthat to print is a bit concerning
clicking and the shape of those belts is also a bit sketchy
