Oh my goodness!!! This video could not have come at a better time! I think this is one of my top fav videos of yours Brie. I adore watching your process and hearing about your colour mixes. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome Lori! I honestly hesitate to make these long videos because I’m afraid people won’t watch them. But I felt like this palette deserved it.
Seriously...paused your video and purchased one. Always looking for minimal, functional and portable paint options. Great job reviewing this product.
Yes. You are going to love it.
Same here. 😀
Lol
Now that I have one of your journals, it's great to watch this again and see you painting on the Tomoe River paper. I'm really enjoying it, and I like the effect when the paper buckles. This video is even more helpful to me than it was the first time around. I appreciate you. 😊
I love that you are re watching some of my videos. It makes me heart so happy!!! 😍😍😍🥰
Oh my! That palette looks wonderful! I have back problems, so I’m always looking for the lightest possible items to carry in my bag. Amazing!
It’s simply amazing.
Hi Brie, How awesome to see this the first time I turned on my laptop today! Thanx for all of the explanations while you painted this amazing sketch. I love your work, girl!
I always love how you talk through your process - I've not heard of the Pocket Palette, so when I one day return to enjoying art in this way, I have it on my list!
Awesome. It’s a nice little travel companion.
What a great video Brie. I love this pocket palette and have two of them which I always have in my handbag and are fantastic for travel too. I have two daggers from Rosemary & Co and like them very much, the larger one and a travel one. I don’t know they would act as a good replacement though. I think a round gives one a bit more control. Daggers are great for really loose work and line work as in urban sketching. Liz Steel has pretty much replaced all her brushes with the Rosemary and Co larger dagger and has quite a bit of info on it on her blog if you are interested. Hugs 🤗 to you, Vanessa
Thank you for all your information. I will look into Liz Steels website.
Oooo thanks for the share. Definitely on the summer wish list now. That would make the perfect beach pallet!
Yes girl. Exactly what I’m thinking.
Oh my goodness! Love this video Brie. Thank you for taking the time to show us your process and your new paint set. ♥️
Of course. I love sharing.
This is videos is one of my favorite videos of yours. I ordered the pocket palette with the Samantha Baker paints after I watched and I can’t wait to use it. Thanks for sharing and I loved your painting!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video!!! You will love the palette.
Hello Brie. I really enjoy the pocket palettes from this company, and I’ve filled the pans too with Daniel Smith watercolors. I’ve heard about Rosemary Co brushes but never purchased any yet. I love my round brushes, and I tried using a dagger but perhaps because that was only a few times, I could not fully appreciate its potential and went back to the rounds. Love your video!! Thank you! 🙏
Yes I love my rounds! I’m not sure what I’m going to do about the dagger.
Hi! Love your videos & journals 💗 I use a Rosemary & Co 1/2” dagger for quick urban sketching. I like that I can get a good line but also washes/edges that are loose and somewhat unpredictable (which may or may not be something you want). I also have their dagger pocket travel brush, but I find I don’t use it as much. Even though it’s convenient, it feels “tighter” because it’s smaller & shorter, and I find I’m using the dagger in the first place for its looseness! I carry a 1/2” dagger (made the handle shorter) in a toothbrush case 😜 If you like more control though, the pocket dagger might be just right.
Ahhh, thank you for all that advice!
I love this so much! I really enjoy learning other artists’ processes. You do a great job of explaining why you are doing what you do. Thanks for the review too! I’ve never seen such a compact little palette and I am so intrigued!
It’s an amazing little thing.
Love it. You are a good teacher. Looking forward to seeing more of your art. C
Awe thank you!
Thanks for the tip about using similar colors. Love the cute little paint kit. I'm all for small.
Thank you!!
I love the video! It was fun to watch you paint, and the scene is lovely. I too have the pocket palette and love it. I use several sizes of dagger brushes and love them. I only partially pencil in my sketches and then the dagger brush is used to make things like branches and grasses look more expressive then my pencil lines. Thanks for the video, you packed in so many useful ideas and suggestions.
Ohhh thank you not only for watching and commenting but also for all the information about the dagger brush!
"I blend it..." I really enjoyed this video. So very much. Loved watching you and hearing about your process. I could watch these videos all the time. I ordered one of the artoolkit's...the one with Samantha Dion Baker's palette. I don't have quite enough tubes yet to fill a palette, but I'll see what colors I really use and get more tubes. I have a Princeton synthetic dagger and really love it. My favorite brushes are the 4, 8, and 10. And the Silver Black Velvet's one of my favorites. I just got a short handle 10 round that I absolutely love.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and thanks for the brush info. I have loved my silver black velvets however I have the travel brushes and I have a few that won’t stay closed. Kind of annoying.
@@DocumentedJourney I don't have the travel set, mine are either long handle or short handle--have to say I like the short handle one's much better. Easier to work with. I have the Escoda Versatil and Prada, as well as one Escoda Reserva for travel brushes. I have been using the wrap and putting my short handle Dagger and the umm... it looks a bit like a rounded off leaf (it's great for making leaves, lol), and I have a Rigger that I really like (I think that's what it's called, it is long and almost a round but thinner and longer). LOL! I just put the clear straw looking thing on the end to protect them and either use my wrap or wrap them in my washcloth/handkerchief. I am ready to get back to plein aire painting (we were having 70degree weather but it snowed this morning... soon though soon. Headed to the post office tomorrow. I think I have an extra travel in a 4 or an 8 I'll add to your box. :D
Oh I’m excited for some happy mail! You are all set for nice weather. I feel like we have none in site in Colorado. It’s been oddly cold here.
Hi Brie, Thanks so much for these videos, I'm learning a lot. I have two Rosemary & Co goat hair was brushes and they are well made and work great. As for travel brushes I really like the Escoda Riserva & Prado and both are great brushes.
Yes both those companies make well constructed travel brushes!!
I personally don’t like using the dagger brush as much as the round brush. I have 2 full sets of the silver travel brushes (gifted to me). I love them. I think carrying both sizes will make you happier than one dagger brush.
I am anxious to hear how you like the rosemary and co. I’ve heard they are wonderful brushes.
I love your new palette and your painting is beautiful!
Good to know! Thank you.
I have three Rosemary brushes and one of them is a dagger. I love it. You absolutely should get one or two. It’s so versatile.
Awesome. Thanks.
This is so beautiful!
Thank you!
I have a list of project supplies that will take my entire craft budget until January, however I think the pallet folio is the one I am going to go with when I am ready to get one of these, I want something small but still need some space lol. I also really want to get one of Rosemary & CO’s travel daggers, I have a black velvet sword which I love and would really like a travel brush similar. I currently have 5 black velvets and am in love with these brushes, will eventually get a #6 travel to round out my collection. It has been too long since I sat down with my paints.
Update: ended up getting the Demi first. A limited 4colors with extra mixing space plus ATC diy block and water brush are my new EDC purse kit. Haven't put it to the test yet but really excited
I enjoy my black velvet and rosemary and co brushes but escoda brushes have taken over! I really enjoy their synthetic line and the quality!
I love the Dager brush by Rosemary and co. I just love their brushes. I think it would be a great secondary brush for you.
I’m working with it. It’s an adjustment. But the quality of the brush is amazing.
Cute palette. Lovely painting
Thanks
Thank you, Teacher! I learn so much from you. So many little tips that will be helpful to me. God bless.
Thanks for watching. 💚
Gorgeous! I was mesmerized watching your bird come to life. Since the TR paper crinkles, has the paint that’s pooled in the crinkle ever run into another part that’s already dried and mess it up?
Yes I take a dry brush and soak it up. I can show it on the next paint with me video.
Beautiful! Loved it!
Thank you!
I do have a rosemary co dagger... I do like it for the way I use it..,mostly the tip and the long edge... but personally don’t like it for washes... prefer a round! Don’t think it as a replacement... more as a sidekick!
Got it. Thank you!
This is the first of your videos that I've seen since subscribing, which was about an hour ago, and I'm so happy to have found you!
I'm going to Alaska in September for a week. I'm hoping to do a lot of travel sketching, and this palette is very appealing! The wells are so shallow that I wonder if you think it would hold enough paint for a week of small sketches. Ought I also take tubes along to refill it?
I have taken this to Florida for two weeks and been fine but again I’m not a heavy paint user. You could also get the double size and take fewer colors or mix it up with the regular pans and minis. I think it should hold enough paint. I use these as my everyday palettes and my silver palette I’ve only filled 3 times and have had it for years.
I wish you would post one of these videos every day.... Lol... I know selfish right? But I just love your technique and talent and knowledge!! Do you have your DS color list available for a beginner to get started?
Thank you. I think it would be a fun video to make. A beginner palette video.
I agree with Tracey!!! 🙌😊
@@DocumentedJourney yes!!!! We would love this!! Thank you!!
I agree completely. I could watch her videos every day as well. 😀
And would also like the color list for beginners. As well as a color mixing...
Thanks! Great video and I have learnt a lot from it.
Awesome. Thanks for watching.
I don't know the brand that sells the dagger brushes you are talking about. But I have a dagger brush and I personally like round brushes for watercolors so much more even if I have to carry more than one size with me. Because they hold so muuuch more water than a dagger brush does. Mine has synthetic hair, maybe one with better quality hair would hold more water. I don't know. 😅 Thank you so much for showing your coloring process.
I love my rounds so we will see how I feel about it if I get one.
Thank you for another great video! I really enjoyed it!
Thank you for watching!!
I reviewed one of these palette a couple years ago. And I got one that was two sided. It like that palette but not for mixing because i f i need a color from the opposite side while mixing then the paint is dribbling down. Big mistake. I should really purchase a new one that is one sided. Very cute painting Brie.
Yes I remember you reviewing that.
What is the process or procedure for filling your paint pans? Would you consider sharing that sometime.
I don’t mind sharing. It’s the same process you use as if to fill a regular pan.
Documented Journey I have never used paint pans before. Do directions come with the kit?
Not really. Here is a good video, ruclips.net/video/V7S35GPaBfw/видео.html
Documented Journey thank you for your time and help
No problem.
Thanks for such a great review, I have had my eye on this palette for a while. Can I ask how long the pans last (filled with colour that is) I am transitioning from pans to tubes and I have no idea if it would last the same time. For example feeling up the pans and some double pans would I go through a month with them?
I have had the palette for over a year and have only filled a a few colors. However I do paint in a small 3.5x5.5 journal. So for me they last a long time.
Documented Journey thanks so much for the reply! :-) :-)
of course!
How do you fill the pans and what do you fill them with?
I was curious as to what cloth you are using to dab off with?
Just a torn up old T-shirt.
Why not use watercolor paper?
I's not a fan
Are you thinking of the Rosemary triangle brush? I recently bought one but haven’t had the chance to really use it yet. They come in a couple of sizes and they seem really interesting in the line variations. Here is a link to a video.

No they also sell a travel dagger brush and that’s what I was talking about. The triangle brushes look interesting though.
Any RUclipsrr who doesn't show these palettes in action or in the field should be forced to reimburse full price for these freebies. There is no way in hell you are using that in the field to actually paint anything. In the studio yes, but who would want to
I love mine but I understand why some people would like other things.
