Great video. I love seeing what people use in their palettes. I keep 18-24 colors at any given time. I always have 1 each cool: red, blue, yellow. 1 each warm: red, blue, yellow. From there I choose colors for shadows, and accents(some opaque) my favorites are: moon glow, light turquoise, any quinachradone shades red, new gamboge, sepia and indigo. Always in my palette french ultramarine + sepia They make beautiful shades of gray when mixed.
Yes I love having staples and great colors for mixing!!! French ultramarine and sepia is a great mix that I have forgotten about. Thanks for the reminder.
Beautiful colors!! It's so nice seeing a new video from you on Sunday's while I draw in next week's spread in my bullet journal! I learn little things & it's fun!!!
I loved seeing your palette! And I love Daniel Smith. I have a lot of these same colors in my palette also. One of the things I love that you didn’t mention is the granulation of some of these colors. I also love love love the primateks! If you do any kind of nature scenes they are beautiful! Have you used green apatite genuine? It is highly granulating and so fun to use! It is beautiful when used in the right places. Thank you for sharing what you use! 😁
I messed up and got Ultramarine Turquoise but it's really pretty... and extremely similar to the Phthalo Turq. I love yellow ochre, and since trying the Carbonizle Violet I've fallen in love. I do still love Moonglow though. Indigo is one of my favorite colors, along with Payne's Blue Gray. I also use Buff Titaniam a lot for a base for skin tones. I really enjoyed this video. :D
Im so glad you enjoyed this video. I was actually worried about doing it. Thinking it just wasn’t something people would watch. However I was mistaken. I have buff titanium but feel it’s easier to build up shadows with the brown ochre for skin tones. As for Payne’s grey, I love it too and switch it and indigo out easily.
I love your choices! You might be surprised at the many mixing options if you add a cool red. I myself don’t care for red but 😍 what it does for mixing! Thanks for the video!
I love olive green too. My favorite Sennelier gredo en is brown pink. Have you ever seen it? I have no idea why it would be called brown pink but it's similar to olive green. I love your palette color choices and that palette. I think I'll be putting it on my wishlist.
If that's an original PO49 quinacridone gold, you're probably better served just using the yellow ochre, and selling the Quin Gold. Even partially used, PO49 tubes fetch a VERY high price as the pigment is discontinued and there's a lot of watercolour artists who are hooked on it!
Such a helpful video; thank you! I'd love to know which brush you're using. It looks like a travel brush, and I need to get one to go with my waterbrush, because I need a little more control over the water amounts than I'm getting with using only the waterbrush.
Hi Brie, this is very helpful, because I'm just beginning with watercolors. I have a question: could you tell me/us witch colors are the best for different skin tones, please? thank you. Have a nice weekend. xxx
Thanks for watching. I really like using brown ochre, raw sienna, burnt umber, and bone or an off white color. This should give you a great range for all skin types.
I think you meant PO49 which is the sadly discontinued color--the new formula is PO48 and PY150. And yes, it's a beautiful color excellent for adding sunlight and glow to paintings, I'm going to be lost when I finish my last tube of PO49.
So excited. I just ordered my first Daniel Smith watercolors.
Got the in the mail today!!!!!
Awesome!!!

Yeah I want to paint but have run out of ideas.

Yes granulation is something that I actually don’t enjoy. 😬 I know a lot of people love it but I’m into the smoother look.

Same to you!!

J Lynn, what would you recommend for a cool red?

I had to look up the brown pink. Funny name for such a gorgeous green!
So much appreciated!! Thank you for doing this video Brie
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This was awesome! Such a helpful video for us beginners!
So glad you liked it and found it useful.
It looks fun to create color patterns!! Hope you enjoy my realistic multi-stamp art, and HELLO from JAPAN!!
Great video, absolutely so helpful and informative!

So I’ve been hearing. Yet I’m not sure how to go about selling it.

Thank you so much!! This was so helpful!!!
Not a problem.
Are you still using these colors or do you have a current palate video or blog post? I always love seeing choices for a minimal everyday one, thanks
I am! But I could talk about them more in a newer video!
Such a helpful video; thank you!

It’s a size 4 silver black velvet. I’m having a travel brush video coming in the next couple months!!
I certainly look forward to seeing your travel brush video when you have the chance to make it. 😊
It should be out in the next few weeks.
(I wish I could "like" this video more than once. 😉)

@@DocumentedJourney thanks a lot. :)
I’ll buy the Quin Gold if it’s PO49
I already sold it.
If your Quin Gold is the discontinued PO48, you could probably get good $ selling it.
Oh really?!?!? Where would I sell it?
