Kohler automatic choke-Replace with manual choke. PART 1

These Kohler automatic chokes are garbage. Sometimes even a brand new one won't work. The muffler on the mower won't get it hot enough to open the choke or it takes too long for it to get hot enough. In this video I show you how to make a bracket so you can just use a manual choke cable. I do this to every one of these that come into my shop with choke problems. Once you have this clamp done just buy Stens part number 290-106 to use as the choke cable. See my other video PART 2 for more details on the cable I use.

Much better than fiddling with that auto choke. Slapped on a generic manual lever choke cable and boom. 5 min fix.

I've just discovered this problem on my 2 year old mower and I totally agree. The engineers are crazy sometimes. These things did not work that great on automobiles from the 50's, 60's and 70's and they were better quality than the "cheapo" one on this engine. My engine is a later model and slightly different design than the one on this video, so I will try and figure something out.

i want to try this and am looking for a cable to use locally as my auto choke is toast .. how do you keep tension on the cable to hold its position with vibration? thanks

Where can I find a metal bracket? I'm interested in converting auto choke to manual choke for my Toro B&S lawn mower.

Just take the metal bracket that the automatic attaches to carb with, and with a fair bit of bending, and just a little cutting & drilling it should do the job
