For those who didn't stop to think about this film much. It's about homeless youth trying to survive in the dog eat dog world of capitalism while trying to enjoy their lives in the moment. They find their tribe, their group, for a short moment in time. The scene where they're singing "American Honey" together in the van towards the end is when it all hit me like a train. Innocence lost and they all strive for simpler times in a world gone mad that doesn't make sense to them. I damn near cried. I know that feeling exactly. I think we all do. It's genuine and perfect. These kids are the voiceless in America, the outcast, misfits and homeless cast aside and brushed under the rug of society. It's really quite heartbreaking if you think about it. I'm sure most people, including the young people seeing this movie have never been homeless and dirt poor. This is one of the finest films of the 21st century. All the performances were great. New respect for Shia Leboef and the actress who played Star was terrific.
I lived this. I was homeless at 18 and working at sonic. The van pulled up and all these kids my age got out and were having fun. The exact line they told me “we travel the country and party like rockstars, we leave tonight if you want to come” I didn’t hesitate. You have no idea the wild ride that was. It’s hard to explain, I wouldn’t do it again, but I would do it all over again. I’m glad there is some media to document this part of my life.
Crew was fun asf I remember those days I did it for 5 years and had a blast and use the same things I learned then in my everyday life today because everyday is a sell either you gon sell me on a idea or ima sell you

One of the most authentic movies I've seen in awhile. The performances were great and the soundtrack was fantastic. Just a little too long, but I was glued to the screen the entire time. Can't wait to see where Sasha Lane goes from here and do I really have to say that Shia Labeouf gave a great performance? He's incredible.
This movie is so real. One of my favourites of all time. Feels like you're completely immersed in the movie, going on a road trip with the main character
i really don't feel like this trailer does the film justice the trailer makes it look like an american apparel commercial LOL but that's the demographic they're trying to teach you know? but after watching this film last night it's actually EXTREMLY realistic as to what life is like as a poor person in middle america. seriously tho that acting was scarily spot on, most likely because a lot of the actors were picked up off the street and just acting as themselves u know? it was scary how like accurately it depicted our generation lmao
This is what drew me to the movie the most was the depiction of the characters. I had no idea Hollywood people even knew people like that existed, I grew up around these type people. It was like reliving those years, smoking weed and just being pieces of shit but we had each other so it was okay. How they cuddled to each other in the bed, even though it was two dudes, it wasn't gay it is like two brothers cuddling each other. God damn it was just so accurate.
@@ethanroberts6838 do you know that most cultures around the world two dudes cuddling or holding hands is seen as normal human affection? Only Americans think that it's "gay". Really sad.

I spent time as a carnie in the Midwest, and nothing has ever captured the vibe of freedom in the banality of the Midwest better than this film did for me. Amazing.
i just watched it for the first time. it was good and it’s imagery was definitely thought provoking. and while i enjoyed the lengthiness of some scenes others DID feel a little drawn out and unnecessary, like i didn’t understand the point of showing us things like Star muddying her shoes; with no follow up there’s no point. i did enjoy the ever ambiguous ending, though
Just watched this movie and have to say I'm impressed. It felt raw and not that generic rawness that Hollywood tries to give you. I definitely recommend it.
Say what you want about Shia LeBoeuf, but he is one of the best younger actors we have working in the business today. All of his films are at least entertaining and his ability to change his accent and dialogue. It's impressive.

I felt the chase of freedom, the scariness of the unknown, and the beauty of long drives in the summer night with new friends. The main characters need to escape her creepy father? figure hits home more than anyone knows. I thought that shot resonated so much. The soundtrack is equally powerful. The kids/ supporting characters are all people most of us have come across. Not to mention the passion of the love story and the kisses felt so electric. Even the "mean" girl ring leader brought it. Every time I watch a new movie, I look for this exact emotion and awe. Its hard to find films like this and I am always looking for real ass shit. I watched this movie 3 times in one week. I am still looking for the right words to explain what this meant to me. But if you are looking for a sign to watch this, this is one.
I guess you could say that they've somewhat been choosing good movies to publish such as The Lobster, The Witch and such but this one looks lame. Looks somewhat of an Xavier Dolan imitation.
I haven’t loved a movies so much in a long time, Ugh it’s so artistic and raw. When you love someone so much that their presence feels like you got punched in the face. Of course Star was special. You can tell by the relationship she has with animals throughout the film. Just her presence would put them at peace, giving off the feeling of her being an old soul. The reason Krista told her that was so she wouldn't see her self worth, which she realised by the end of the film. Just my interpretation.
Guess we can all say Shia is back on track!! What a brilliant trailer, looking forward to the movie big time ! Amazing music during the trailer as well

Okay so there may be spoilers if this becomes a thread so if you haven't seen it yet tread no further on this comment This movie has been racking my brain since two days ago when I watched it. I have not been able to stop thinking about the whole movie...and it's because of that alone that I'm pretty sure I absolutely love this movie...BUT WITH THAT SAID, this movie has no absolutes and though the ending speaks mainly about the character going through her own metamorphosis and we do not entirely know what that entails but that change in her life and her thinking will occur from that point on. but to those who haven't stopped being able to think about the entirety of the movie and aren't entirely sure where Star and Shia(I forgot his name in the movie) stand, I'm right there with you because he seemed truly mad when she left that truck by the end and returned to the house. He truly lost it...there had to be even an inkling of jealousy and love there. and honestly Krystal seemed jealous and disheveled by the end based on Star's continuous relationship with him and his reactions to Stars continuous encounters with other men. She wasn't like the other girls and did not want to follow the rules of the trade. Star unlike the others didn't fit the mold and she spoke freely about that and with that said was their love real? Was Krystal simply trying to claim her territory with threats? Based on the actions on both their parts you can't say he didn't to a degree care about her and anyone who watched it knew she fell for him...so in the end with the turtle...what is he saying and where do you think she goes from the ending scene? I need help configuring this cryptic movie lol it's driving me nuts, even if they are theories please let me know what you're thinking.
Also I didn't mention in this comment but yes I am aware of the scene of what Krystal said in the end and what Shia was used for in her business...but he wasn't present when she was saying that. in fact she said she fired him and then he returned later on so...I honestly think he does that and that is what his job entails but there was something much more intimate between he and Star that wasn't like the other girls and he wasn't the con-man he was to her in the beginning by the end of the film...
Same here. This movie left me feeling weird. I think they had something. Like a dysfunctional relationship. Kind of like the couple from the I love the way you lie music video. Anyway just wanted to say I feel the same way about this movie. Just finished watching it.
its Raw and Honest film. People should notice it. this movie should got more awards recognition,,, the best scene for me is when they sing the American Honey song by Lady Antebellum.
This is such a unique movie. Shia did it again and he’s the only reason I watched it. I was captivated by their way of life because it’s something I’ve never seen before. It’s actually heartbreaking because I’m sure this is someone’s life. All of the actor were great and I felt each one of them. ❤
The soundtrack shocked me lol but it was A1, had all the bangers. The movie hits home for me, brought flashbacks when I moved to Oklahoma from California, I was 19/20 and joined this job that traveled by van, but instead of selling magazines it was doing inventory, and the group was filled with people with low income and rough back grounds, we were like family, we would party in the motels and on the road, people sleeping with each other, and etc just like the movie.
This is one of the most authentic movies I've ever seen, chronicling the lives of homeless young adults trying to survive. The whole cast did phenomenal but especially Sasha Lane. From what I know, she had no previous acting experience before this. She did so good.
Fanny Hercules heeyyyy me too!! Right now. I’ve always had it on my “to watch” list. Shia is crazy but he’s an underrated actor for sure🎭🎭 the entire case was exceptional. Wow! Have 14 more minutes to go🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@puny5417 lol yeah I never wanted to watch the movie but it was something good to watch that night....I didn't like the kids part cause I have kids lol but overall the movie just takes u back into your young days for sure....when there was no worries A24 got a few good movies ...just woke up watching Gotti on Amazon with John Travolta
This movie is beautiful ! One of the most authentic movies I’ve seen , inspiring , coming of age movies , suspenseful , climatic , shortest three hours of my life ! I could watch this movie if it was 2 days long it’s amazing I can go on an on about it just watch it ! And be thankful
This movie is awesome to depict what it's really like being from the wrong side of the tracks and just partying with your friends. It brought back a lot of memories from 2010 on what we used to do get high and drunk and not care. She found all these kids in real life. Beautiful real movie about my generation, the real truth that kids dont have food in fridges because there mom is on crack and you having to run away to escape an abusive step dad because your mom cant stay out of the bar. The scene with the cowboys is realistic I have gotten myself in situations partying with people you would normally not. Even Jake was great in the type of guys you meet at 18.
Most of the actors in this movie were picked right from a beach and no acting experience at all!! I love this movie so many highs and lows!! Makes you feel like you can be right there with them and feel there love and pain!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏🖤🖤
4:3 is used to allow characters to dominate more of the frame, like a portrait. Nate's point was that, although it creates a more intimate feel, it dilutes the effect of a beautiful environment as well, like taking a picture of the Great Wall of China vertically with your phone
I literally was writing a book with a similar storyline as this but has a lot of differences. The thing is, I'm fascinated with our (millennial's) generation and how much we're changing. Idk... youth is just so awesome. I don't want to grow up anymore... Wish I could just keep reliving the good times.
Actually they do this in almost every country....to be clear door to door was the first form of direct selling....I believe the farmers almanac was one of the 1st pieces of news to be circulated, maybe not for profit in the beginning, but it still lasts today, and will be here in the future. Technology has dampened it however if you can do this and be successful, there is really nothing you can't do
Yeah I did this for 15 year's... As good as this trailer looks it's lacking a lil something... Real deal road experience, 15 year's I became a manager. I've seen people die, my daughter was born on the road... It also made me who I am today!! I always said I was gonna make a movie about crew!! Half of my friend's are still in the business it looks a lot like how this trailer looks. I started a long time ago. The history is rich, and magazine sales have been around since the 50's. It's something you never forget how to do. I just moved to Los Angeles from New Orleans well down the Bayou.. When I lived there I still knocked doors at 37 year's old I still can out sell just about anyone. I'm the agent that started going on military bases. I've been on bases and was trapped on Ft. Hood when that guy went nuts and killed all those people. I invented working the RV parks you are thank you ladies. Knocking traditional homes just became a bore for me. My high day is 31 and my high week as a agent was 111... As a agent I never gave up my front seat, or if I did I was never past the comfort zone.. You would never find me sitting in the whale shit.. I'm in the process of starting a local crew here in LA. Where everyone goes home at night. I'm still a company owner, and still have access to clear so many different titles.. I remember not being able to go in Wisconsin after the 99 Janesville wreck that took so many young lives.. I've lived with 3 company owners and worked both sides of this business in and out... Robert Spruill was the last owner who was fatally stabbed in Miami for attempting to rid the hotel of a drug dealer. I watched my good friend and part time lover take his last breath in VA beach because he was murdered over a oz of weed.. Not all people that travel are into drug's but as in anything some are... After many year's on the road and dealing with the Jones's you gain the ability to be able to read people... I used to be able to make people give me so much money!! People would pay just to have someone to talk too... This job was my life and to this day, I still live by many of these principles... Just like the opening scene of this trailer. I was one of the best car handlers in the business and hired many people just like this... Hey just stopped by to see you for a minute. Don't think you know me, my name's Decembria what's yours? Well the reason I stopped by is to get you to back me in this year's NCA race. I know you haven't heard about it or backed anyone else right? Great you got the best one to tell you about it and you can back me too.... See all it is is 258 of us running around collecting point's first one to get 20,000 gets a 1,000 bucks and a trip.. You know what the best part is.. I'm fucking winning!! I'm still winning decided to become a healer.. Moved to LA to Marry a Jewish boy, who turned out to be crazy.. Left him, and I'm still here.. I get contracted through Live Nation and work some of the most incredible shows ever... 15 year's ago I would have never thought I'd be backstage at The Hollywood Bowl working on amazing people!! My gypsy soul still longs for the road!! Probably why I have lived everywhere... New York, New Orleans, now LA... My daughter is now 9 and her first 4 year's of life were spent on the road.. I have stories after stories... All true!! I need to find someone here in LA to help me make my stories become a reality!! I wanna share with the world!! Tear it up and get a Bunch!!! :)
decembria spurgeon I feel like you are speaking a language that was dead to me for so long. I miss the life, not gonna lie. But it sounds like I got out at the right time. I was traveling with Robert and left crew in Nov, about 1 month before they were supposed to be in Fl. Not that our crew didn't have it's share of crazy before I left. 111 on a DAY? That's crazy. My top day was 12. The top day I even saw was maybe 26. Though I had a top sale of $150 that was nice. I always wondered how the people who stayed in for years managed it. The managers on my crew were both (more than a little) were. Maybe it's a survival tactic? Like I said somewhere further up, crew was one of the best experiences of my life in that I learned more about the world in six months than I did at any other point in my life, but I hope my children never do it. (Your way sounds better, but them going through the rollercoaster funhouse that we went through? Not so much.)
decembria spurgeon Salute. I did this at 13 in the early 90's. I just wanted to go on a ski trip I heard my older brother was working towards, I made it to that ski trip.

JaceAndJace No, but now I know why. I looked too young, still do. I'm a 20 year old who looks 16. At the time I auditioned I was either 17 or 18.
+Rich Talavera it's okay you can audition for my films.
everyone can audition for my films

I’ll cherish this film forever
Okay so there may be spoilers if this becomes a thread so if you haven't seen it yet tread no further on this comment
This movie has been racking my brain since two days ago when I watched it.
Literally I'm having the same feelings! I can't get this movie out of my mind and I have so many questions.
I want to know what the damn turtle meant
Emily Jones something good me thinks bit strange ending though leaves ya guessing
Do you have any dreams? DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS
Anything with Shia is gold.
Transformers? Indiana Jones 4?
I love this film, it gave me that warm feeling I'm always looking for!
Wow, very true. I don't think a movie made me feel this way since I watched it in 2016.
Nathan Algren 😂😂😂
@@nicorobin8761 did you find any movies since then?
its Raw and Honest film.
The movie fucking ripped me apart but in a good way. It changed me and i’ll never stop thinking about it
Imagine doing it...trust that its a movie and the real life thing was surreal
I'm 2 years late😎but bearly watching this right now on Netflix
Fanny Hercules yeah. That’s saddening to see children being abandoned and abused. It’s a shame really. Okay i will have to check out gotti.... Thanks
@@puny5417 😁
Me too.
Even Jake was great in the type of guys you meet at 18.
honestly one of the best films i’ve ever seen- it’s actually amazing and worth the watch!
1:21 some serious feelings starts
Trailer is better than the movie unfortunately.
Jupiteriano • yeah
Most of the actors in this movie were picked right from a beach and no acting experience at all!! I love this movie so many highs and lows!! Makes you feel like you can be right there with them and feel there love and pain!! ❤️❤️🙏🙏🖤🖤
Every last song on the soundtrack is amazing
God’s whisper is perfect for this
1st Song: "I like Tuh" - Carnage feat I LOVE MAKONNEN
2nd Song: "God's Whisper" - Raury
Fart noise
The scene with the bear is amazing. Such a good movie
two thumbs up for the cinematographer Robbie Ryan!
Riley FUCKING Keough
work it, girl
She is great. Elvis Presley's granddaughter.
anyone who wants to understand real America culture, watch this movie. The vast majority of the people in this country are like this
You say that as if it is a good thing.
the vast majority of Americans don't rob people lol
This movie is character-study and critique on American society, you couldn't make a very much worse choice than to see this movie for escapism
Amazing movie. Definitely my favorite film of the year so far
The trailer shows the entire movie...
When she saves the bee from the pool. 😍
One of my new fav comfort movies
its like that KIDS movie from the 90's
agreed....
Somehow I actually know what that is .....
💭
Both great movies
how..?
so thrilled about American Honey
in love with Andrea Arnold since Cannes 2016, can't wait to see what it seems to be a masterpiece
I loved this movie, I have watched it twice. This trailer doesn’t give it justice.
I feel like cleaning my car and taking a shower for some reason.
can't believe they used raurys Gods whisper in the trailer, he's come a long way in such a short time
I can’t believe I just found out about this movie. It was GREAT.
Yup...Raury is about to blow up from this one song.
Tom Hardy and Shia LeBoeuf stand out as 2 of the best younger actors we've had in the last 12 years.
Filmed in my hometown. Shia ordered Burger King for my friends. Normal Tuesday night for Shia LaBeouf.
no one cares

SKINS : the movie
Selina Davis I was thinking the same thing, haven't seen it yet but the trailer reminded me of skins
That's pretty much it lol
Wow what a comment! It literally is the American version tbf
no skins is better
Not really
I got incredibly excited when Raury started playing
i loved this movie so much, it didn’t get the recognition it deserved!!
If anything, this is the return of ANDREA ARNOLD! So much love and respect for her :-)
Great great movie but the ending left so many questions 😥😥😥😥😓 I’m happy but mad right now
first movie ive wanted to own in a long time
Just saw a preview screening last night and much better than I imagined
This movie participated in the cannes film festival and won the jury prize, excellent acting, storyline, an amazing picture

As much as I like the intimacy that comes from the 4:3 ratio, I'm disappointed that those beautiful landscapes aren't shown off in full widescreen.
Deliberately chosen for style I guess
4:3 is used to allow characters to dominate more of the frame, like a portrait. Nate's point was that, although it creates a more intimate feel, it dilutes the effect of a beautiful environment as well, like taking a picture of the Great Wall of China vertically with your phone
OMG ZE RETURN OF SHHHHHHIIIIIIAAAAAAAAA
This channel just introduced me to a whole new wave of awesome movies

A24 you are GODS. I swear almost every film I've loved the past 5 years has been A24
I literally was writing a book with a similar storyline as this but has a lot of differences. The thing is, I'm fascinated with our (millennial's) generation and how much we're changing. Idk... youth is just so awesome. I don't want to grow up anymore... Wish I could just keep reliving the good times.
One of my most favourite movies ever
I watched the movie, a masterpiece.
This is possible only in USA.. Surreal!
Actually they do this in almost every country....to be clear door to door was the first form of direct selling....I believe the farmers almanac was one of the 1st pieces of news to be circulated, maybe not for profit in the beginning, but it still lasts today, and will be here in the future. Technology has dampened it however if you can do this and be successful, there is really nothing you can't do
This film is worth watching -
SEE THIS MOVIE NOW!!!
JUST....... DO IT!!!!!
Gorgeous. Gorgeous, Beautiful Film.
One of the Best Ever Coming of Age Films and Stories. Ever 🎨

Now that's what I call a TRAILER!!! Make A GOOD FILM & Make A Lotta MONEY.....GET IT!
Summer, Open Sky, Sunsets, Escape, Innocence, Young, Free, Kids, Adventure - I want my movies to have all of these criteria!
Good movie. Kind of reminded me of “Y tu Mamá también”
How is that movie? I'm planning to watch it soon
Wow what a movie!
Imagine an American Honey TV Show
The scene where they rob the cowboys was filmed about 10 min from me in omaha. Rented someone's house for like 2 weeks.
akrogmeier22 and???
This and The Florida Project. Both a total MUST WATCH.
Not so much.)
whole o agree with most of this... Trailer parks have been the joust since the 80s
decembria spurgeon I wanna watch a movie about your life omg !!
decembria spurgeon Salute. I did this at 13 in the early 90's. I just wanted to go on a ski trip I heard my older brother was working towards, I made it to that ski trip.

I always hold this movie close to me.
This moving is good ! The ending is confusing tho
I literally live in the same city as where this film originally took place. I remember when they started filming this film lol.
