  • The Sage / Breville Barista Express is a fantastic entry level machine for getting into making espresso based cafe drinks. With a burr grinder, espresso brewing, and a steam wand for milk steaming, you can do all the coffee drinks you desire. BUT it does come with a steep learning curve which can be made even more intimidating by professional videos you may watch. Hopefully my guide will help you make your first steps into making your own espresso-based drinks.

A quick note: no, these are not the optimal ways to pull a shot. There's a bunch of things I've glossed over, like the 2-shot button basically being a water release button or how conical burrs really work. But based on comments on my unboxing video, some people need a 'friendlier' way to get started and just start making coffee with the stuff you get in the box. So this is my way to help new owners pull their first tentative shots.

Now that is the Dogs Bollocks! This looks like a pro machine. I did look at this on my Which? Account & had an excellent review. Mine is a delonghi machine but this is definitely more pro! A bean for every mood… love it! Great little tips & insight, very helpful. I tend to not use my steamer, especially for sheep milk! 😳 Hope you enjoyed your Cappuccino & Happy Birthday Gaz ☕️🍰🍾

Many thanks HHH ! It is a great machine, they do even more advanced gadgets but this was top of my budget! It does have a couple of drawbacks but that's for another video...

Someday I'll have one of these machines! I was a barista in high school and there's something so satisfying about steaming the milk and pouring it into a beautiful pattern. Its been so many years that I wonder if I could even still do it. 😆🤔 Great starter guide! Perfect for someone who has never used a machine like this before.

Thanks! Getting started with espresso can be very intimidating, a lot of the stuff on RUclips is very geeky.

@BigSpud Sometimes it's just worth knowing how to do something without making it a full-blown hobby.

@@BakeAcrossEurope agreed but accessing the 'hobby' via this machine is approx $500!

Using only the amount you need for one drink is a good tip... so often you add too much and you have beans or grinds sitting around in the machine getting stale.

It's odd to have a whole hopper and not fill it with beans though, strange feeling!

Thanks! I knew this video wouldn't be for everyone, I was answering specific comments I'd been asked on another video. More 'usual' recipes and stuff coming soon.

these Coffee maschines look damn good, cost like a bridge but are not so great inside: average grinder with no precise setting, ThermoBlock with ancient mechanical temperature controllers.. Espresso will be sour, bitter but never sweet, soft and balanced.
Instead of it you can buy much cheaper delonghi and a good grinder and get your tasty drink.

I do say in the video it's not the best machine going but it does a little of everything pretty well. I've been having delicious espressos out of it for 3 years so it's not doing too bad! I have had two Delonghis in the past and have never been fully satisfied with them. Like many gadgets you find what works for you.
