You are a good teacher. Clearly you have been through all of these mistakes and you documented and learned from it. However, to be able to articulate it out clearly in simple non technical way is another whole level of teaching. This is probably the best latte art video in youtube.
Hi Thomson, thank you so much for the kind words! I had a brief run as a professor before diving into the coffee world, so maybe there's some carryover from that. Cheers ☕️ AJ
Other tutorials don't know the importance of dissecting the steps, and if they do, they do it with too much info dump. You sir are truly a master of your craft for explaining it well while providing just enough info and visual aid for a beginner to really understand latte art without feeling overwhelmed or confused. Thank you!
Probably one of the nicest comments I've ever gotten. Thank you! I went through all the beginner frustrations myself, so I try to explain things in a way that I would have understood back when I was first starting. I'm glad you and others find it so helpful! AJ
Thank you so much for emphasizing the difference between at-home entry level machines and professional espresso machines for cafes. This is very rarely discussed in tutorials. I’m still trying to sort out how long I need to inject air before putting the steam wand deeper into the milk. I realized after many videos that the 2-4 second rule for powerful espresso machines simply does not apply to an entry level espresso system most of the time. Great video.
This is the best, most thoroughly detailed latte art tutorial I've ever seen. I will be referring to it often. Now I know exactly what to keep in mind during practice. Thank you for this!
Great video, I started latte art last year and have watched a tremendous amount of videos about it. This one is the best I've seen so far, I can't wait to practice my latte art with those tips in mind.
I almost never appreciate RUclips videos, but this was easily one of the best I've seen on the website. Far from being clickbait, I am absolutely making multiple mistakes mentioned in this video and I had no idea. Thank you for posting this! You're one of the very, very, very few good ones.
That was truly comprehensive and easy to understand. I love how you really broke down the steps and explained each with enough detail, and you were simultaneously succinct. I’m going to really enjoy perfecting my technique and referring back to your tutorial! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the tips and advice! I have been a coffee drinker since I started walking and talking. I love all coffee. My husband and I just ordered our first home espresso machine, I greatly appreciate your advice about the steam time on the milk for my home espresso machine vs if it was a commercial machine. It is well past due for me to get an espresso machine at home. I can not wait to practice. I look forward to drinking all my 'mistakes', however, I love your tip of practicing with dyed water and dish soap! As excited as I have been to drink my mistakes, I am excited to learn that tip! Thank you again!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Perfect rate of information and breakdown of each step. I feel empowered with your tips and am again excited I purchased all the equipment!
One of the best videos I have ever watched about the Latte art. I did all these mistakes and I am doing much better with your tips👍 Thanks a lot! Keep going ❤️
Thank you so much! You just described the reasons for and how to correct the misstakes that I was doing with foaming and pouring. I just invested in a nice machine and I'm a newbie.I watched many vids on how to do latte art but none of them explained everything. This one is soo pedagogic and on a another level. It has helped me a lot. I was foaming too hard, getting to thick foam on the top, waiting to long with pouring so the milk and foam separated even more, pouring into espresso too fast in step one so the milk and coffee didn't mix well. After your instructions, I got a silkier foam, the coffe and milk mixed well as I was pouring slower. I stil didn' manage to make a hart as the foam left in the end of pitcher was still too thick. And before that the foam/milk was sinking. Is the milk and foam still separated and what can i do about it?
Hey q, you're welcome and thanks for the comment! Before pouring you can swirl the pitcher to better mix milk and foam. Also, try and pour as soon as possible after frothing. Milk will separate in pitcher as it sits.
@Wholelattelovepage Thank you for the reply. I will do that. As a newbie I think that I also need to put some man hour into this to get the feeling. Let the fun continue...
Okay so now I am definitely going to try it. I had just settled with making nice looking swirls but your explanations are so good that it gave me enough confidence to start practicing latte art! Thanks a lot!
This was genuinely such a helpful guide! I have been trying (and very much failing) to pour some sort of art and get decent milk texture. This guide was well structured and did a really good job of tackling common problems with steaming and pouring. Great job!
I rarely comment on any videos I watch, but this one is worthy! Can see how much work had gone into this. Perfectly executed, with clear, slow and well presented examples. Hats off my man! Thank you!!
love the practice technique you recommended! I always feel like crap for being so wasteful with milk, as it was my only way to actually practice it. But now that you have suggested an actual no-brainer technique, this is seriously an eye-opener!
Proper milk steaming is HUGE. And really frustrating if you can't figure out how to get it right. Great explanation with cues on how to tell what you're doing wrong and how to fix it. Thanks!
thanks AJ! i recently started a job in a coffee shop a few months ago. really enjoying working there and really enjoy practising making coffee and this video helped me see some (a lot :D) of my mistakes!

Hi! Thanks for the video, I’m stuck at the design part 😢 I can make a nice heart and learning the tulip or leaf now, problem is, when I pour a little bit to make « layers » or start shaking, the milk doesn’t stay at the surface… I don’t know if I made myself clear 😅😅
Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice! Learning latte art with the Gaggia Classic Pro and have done Monk’s heads and (currently practicing) hearts. Thanks again!!!
Many thanks for your video. It helps me a lot to understand what is wrong with my frothed milk. However, i froth milk with electronic milk frothed and when it automatically stopped the cycle, is there any way i can fix the separated foam on top to make consistency silky milk in order to pour latte art? Much appreciation.
Hi VAN, Thanks for the comment and question. Electric frothers/whippers have a tough time replicating the quality of microfoam produced by manually steam frothing. One thing you could try is pouring the froth between pitchers to get a better mixing.
You adressing speed feels like a new form of "YOU'RE doing it wrong!". ..I was on the right path I swear!! 😆 But you're giving us the rules and pouring the concrete on it. Now I have no excuses. Thanks Aj

I've worked in speciality coffee for two years now and still can barely manage to pour a heart every other day. It's not as easy as it looks!
awesome thank you! I am a beginner and do all of those mistakes :) it is also important which brand of milk you use. Some are just a bit more watery

how di you make da soap foamy without steam machine

I am having trouble getting my milk frothy! I will try the method you recommend to inject air. What kind of milk do you find is best to use? 2%?
Hi SIR, We prefer whole fat milk for its creamy texture and better frothing performance.
I use skim milk, it's a family preference. I get the impression from the few times I've used whole milk that it is much easier to froth for latte art. Is that right?

What you suggest to replace the milk for practice?
Hi D, water with a drop of dish soap works like a charm!
@@Wholelattelovepage water with dish soap? Isn't that will make it bubbly or foamy because its a soap?
@@mrhelmisan Give it a try. Soap makes the water behave just like milk when frothed!
