Cap has to close the distance for his advantages to come into play. Cyclops has so many ways to prevent that from happening with his Optic blasts before Cap can reach him. Cap's shield can only block in one direction. If Cap manages to get in melee range of Clops... he would've paid for it and would likely not be at his full capabilities. I think Cyclops gets the job done the majority of the time against Cap.
Cyclops' fighting skills rival Caps and his optic blast at close range is essentially a third arm, plus he can move faster and more efficiently by propelling himself with the optic blast. If Cap loses his shield, he loses. Even with his shield, Cap is at a huge disadvantage.
Cyclops ricochet skills are more than sufficient to get past the shield. He could split his beam and have them target cap from several angles at once making it impossible to block. Anytime Cap closes the distance, Cyclops would simply push him back with a wide angle and continue to bombard him with trick shots. Eventually one will get through and it would only take one hit for Cyclops to win.
Visor off, Scott's pissed... he sees cap..... game fucking over.....all he has to do is look.... you ever looked at a person.... it takes no time.... cap is fucked... think about it.... even if the shield holds up.... the energy behing would send him flying
He’s already blocked a full powered optic blast from cyclops. Read xmen vs avengers phoenix force amped cyclops blasts cap and cap blocks it and redirects it back at him. Plus cap has blocked a phoenix force AOE attack from the PF

Ironman: “He’s provoking us, he wants us to looks like bullies” It’s especially clear at the end of the battle when Cyclops fakes out a surrender before teleporting away and getting a head start on the Avengers. You said at the end that Cap wouldn’t get knocked back??? Umm wut? If it didn’t happen before in the comics, it would be a very understandable conclusion to draw, but the very first image that pops up if you Google Cyclops vs Captain America is cap getting very forcefully knocked back. I am really curious why you chose to erase this feat from AvX for your breakdown. If you read avengers vs xmen cyclops blasts cap with his optic blast, cap literally puts his shield up and presses the optic blast and close the distance and shield bashes cyclops face causing him to fall to the ground. I’ve had dishonest comments ignore that fight. Yes there have been certain times where cap has been pushed back, but cap has positioned himself in a way so that he doesn’t get sent flying and lets the shield do the work in terms of defence, as mentioned in my skill section, cap is extremely skilled and has dealt with such tactics. Thank you for your feedback, if you disagree with my take, that is fine, i have no problems with disagreements. The issue i have mainly from others is dishonesty, misinformation and leaving out context.

I think u overestimate caps damage potential. It can go either way because it actually depends on the situation. Considering cyclops has the damage potential to effectively cause so much damage quickly, he does necessarily has to hit cap directly. He can easily keep cap off balance by attacking the ground surrounding the area he is standing on, knock structures and trees on top of cap, as well as use his optic blast to knock other large object into him. Caps main advantage would actually come from situations where cyc would have a tough time judging his location and direction he will approach from allowing him opportunities to close the distance. Overall, in most situations i think cyclops has an advantage since caps shield can only block a fairly small area of his body and cycs blasts can be somewhat tricky when he puts some thought into his attacks. Cap stands a chance because he can be tricky with the shield as well perhaps somehow deflecting the beams off sheild to use the environment to his advantage, but that is for the writers to decide.
