@@ManvsHistory hunting is the purest most joyous past time in all of Red Dead, something about how it can be done in solace or in groups, helping out your fellow man by giving him a carcass you have no room for or offering up a bison skin to nearby strangers because you've shot too many while looking for meat. There's a quiet honesty to it, the way people imagine waking up in a log cabin, stepping outside, and gazing at the sunrise with a cup of coffee if life were a Folgers commercial.

That’s the only way to hunt in this game! Absolutely bliss 👌. In Story mode I’ve unlocked all the Trapper’s clothing options literally first thing once RDR2 released. I got to Chapter 3 and left it there for about 8 months, cause all I did with Arthur was hunt, hunt, hunt and turned him into the most badass Mtn Man of 1899 lol. Even in RDR1 I would slow down, and hunt realistically, even role play a little bit. It was tough, cause of course there wasn’t that much detail, but if you took your time and hunted certain things, you’d unlock a really kickass outfit for John which I replicated into his look on 2. So, when RDR2 dropped and we got the smooth gameplay/graphics and spoiled with ALL we can do hunting wise, it is a dream come true and still will be the greatest game ever, until (hopefully), we get another Red Dead game, which I hope will be pushed back to the Old West’s prime or heck even 1830s-1850s... There’s times where I go poacher (un-realistic) mode in Online if I want to fill up my Trader supplies quickly, but I hate doing that. Even pixelated animals deserved to be treated right! But, like you said Man vs. History, slowing things down really pays off and people need to appreciate the details to these games and animals some more. I’ve tracked a Raccoon one time for about an hour (our time) and I know that’s silly for a Raccoon cause I had my .22 Winchester (Varmint Rifle) ready for the take down anytime, BUT a Hawk swooped down and took it out in the Great Plains. I mean, that’s amazing detail and programming on Rockstars end. 👍

The story about the guy freezing to death with his gun in his lap is quite similar to that of polar explorer Solomon André's death, and how he was found years later sitting guard over the tent where his sick comrade was resting (and where he'd also freeze to death, probably). That and the movie you mentioned makes this a strangely common phenomenon. but hey, if you're gonna freeze to death you might as well do it with your rifle close by!

I always thought a good way to add old guns that are obsolete by 1898 is to have a limited time collector mission available to everyone where the is a train crash or some similar event where you have to find it. Another way is a stranger mission similar to hamish in story mode where it is a chain of events where they eventually give you their old guns.

One time in RDO I was out looking for 3 star bucks west of van horn, up in the hilly area around the water fall.
I set out some bait, went and hid for a bit. As I'm getting bored of waiting, I notice there's a slight fog kicking in, making it slightly harder to notice animals.
Then, on que, a beautiful 3 star elks emerges from the woods. The sheer awe in the moment of seeing such a beautiful creature, it took me off guard. Sure, it's a game, but it's to damn beautiful to just play like every other game.
The hunting in this game is so fun, I once stocked my horse with all my catches, filling the inventory, then lead my horse through the forest over to a butcher. Something I start to realize the more I watch these videos is the amount of effort put into them. Specifically finding the history, I’ve read several comments over the last few months where our famed history teacher talks about how he gets his information but then you look to the gunfighters video when he’s trying to piece together a Doc Holliday outfit and casually mentions there’s no confirmed photos of the man. THAT IMPLIES HE HAD TO GO SIFTING THROUGH THE LITERATURE AT THE TIME AND REPORTS ON THE MAN TO PIECE TOGETHER A COLLECTION OF OUTFITS! I get a bunch of reading doesn’t seem all that tough but when you consider the time spent finding reputable sources, the time spent reading each document, taking notes on all the clothing, then trying to figure out what would work in the game. The amount of effort that goes into these videos are insane, and ontop of that there’s scriptwriting, which as someone who writes a good amount of scripts for school speeches, finding a way to word all the information in an interesting manner that actually teaches people is crazy. Then the editing is also top notch, I’m not very experienced here but I got friends who are, the effort put into the editing too is also insane. I don’t think people sing this man’s praises enough despite how often they are sung, all the compliments I’ve said before I realize are minuscule when you take into account the wider image.

Yeah, it takes a while! About 3 or 4 weeks from research to release.
I remember the albino buffalo mentioned in FF&I (amazing book, btw. I'm pumped you read it). I came across a story about an albino beaver in Martin Hunter's book, Canadian Wilds. He mentions that in running his HBC outpost, he probably handled 2-300,000 beaver pelts over the course of his career, and only came across one albino. I just thought it would be amazing to have that added into the game- and not as a legendary animal, but as a rare anomaly that just shows up once in a blue moon, and carries with it a ridiculous price. Again, anything to help keep the game fresh, and move from quantity to quality.

Thanks, SIC! Yeah, it's from Jay Ungar, the same guy that played the PBS 'Civil War' series theme. Who also coincidentally plays a lot of Legends of the Fall stuff. Heck, it might actually be him on that soundtrack.... I reached out to him before making the video and he was nice enough to personally write back and give me permission to use the song in the background. Pretty cool guy. When I heard the song I knew it would fit perfectly with the subject, so I had to have it.

I was always more fascinated by the wild west era than any other, as brutal as it was there's something so appealing about the untamed nature of the frontier. Simple livin but hard livin. When I get a Lancaster repeater, I customize it to look more like my Uberti replica Winchester 1873. Even though mechanically the same I don’t like the “golden boy” look of the 1866. A substitute for the sharps I use is usually the trap door Springfield since they are both single shot breech loaders, and I can use it without a scope unlike the Remington rifle.
I’ve been binge watching your videos on rdr2 clothing and as a historical reenactor covering the mid 1800’s, I love your attention to detail. Still hunting is COLD, it made me look at temperatures with a different respect.
Sitting still for hours at a time makes even moderate weather require warmer clothing than you'd imagine.
Also an interesting note, out of all the industries, the hunting & fishing industries are still the most lethal professions out there by percentage (not counting space exploration I presume)
Followed by forestry (my original own profession) in 2nd and roofing/altitude construction in 3rd.
Where as mining industry is surprisingly only around 10th place.
