@Man vs. History I also noticed that the Hooded "Amador" wool Coat from the Outlaw pass 3, looks very similar to the “Capote” photos you shared. Unfortunately there aren't any colour options like the ones in the photos.
@@kurunzi8614 Yeah, one of the subs brought this up to me, and let me see his character wearing it. Unfortunately you can no longer get it, but I was able to look it over thoroughly. Sufficed to say, it's a capote, but there are some issues with it. According to primary source documents, there were no fringes on capotes, yet the Amador has them on the shoulders. The shoulders also have a strange piece of fabric draping over like a football shoulder pad. This wasn't accurate either. All that said, it's always plausible that some mountain men had these little accents on their coats. It's just that the primary sources tell us they lacked these things. It's also tough because later sketches depicted capotes with fringes and shoulder pads.... which seems to be the artist's addition, or were based on more stylized capotes that might have emerged after the age of the mountain man. Regardless, the Amador is VERY close, and I think the minor issues with it don't overshadow it at all. It's a capote. I just hope, like you said, they add it back in with more colors. Thanks Kurunzi!
@@ManvsHistory thank you for the detailed reply, obviously I had no ideas of all those differences you mentioned. I'd love to hear more about the history of mountain men - what they were doing, why they were there, etc. You mention the time of the mountain man being over by the late 1800's - but what was the time of the mountain men all about!?
I know this comment is from a year ago, but I'll answer it anyway in case anybody who sees this reply is interested in the history of mountain men. In 1822, William Ashley posted an ad in a newspaper saying that he wanted 100 young men to go into the unexplored West for beaver fur. Hats made of beaver skin was the hot thing at the time. These mountain men were some of the earliest explorers of the West. In fact, after their career as mountain men ended, some of them got jobs as guides. Some interesting people you should search up are Jim Bridger and James Beckwourth.' One thing the men were famous for was the annual rendezvous. This was where they sold their furs and replenished their supplies. If you want to know what life was like, well, judging from the journal of Zenas Leonard, life was tough. Leonard and his men battled through starvation and Native Americans, and they lost a lot of horses and a few men. Their main source of food was bison meat. Eventually, after a decade or so, the beaver population started to decrease, and people fell in love with the latest trend, the silk hat. The last rendezvous was held in 1840. I hope this helped to sum it all up.

Unfortunately the main method of acquisition was trapping- and we can't do that in RDO. Personally, I'd love to see a .50 cal Hawken Rifle added, though. If we can't trap, R* should at least let us hunt with a Hawken. That would pacify me for a while....
If any of the mountain men worked for Ashley’s 100 fur traders they had well groomed hair and no facial hair the company was actually very strict on this rule anyone that worked for them had a clean shaven face and Jim bridger worked for them for many years as did most of the famous known mountain men
In the Story mode with Arthur Morgan, I think I made him an instant Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett. I used the Montana Winter Coat, brown or tan work pants, fringed tan shotgun pants, buckskin moccasins, plaid everyday over shirt, the cougar vest, brown gloves, and provoked a fight with John (the racist and loud mouthed mountain man in Valentine) for his coonskin cap. Downed a couple of hair tonics and instant mountain man Arthur Morgan.
I made a fairly good female Variant using your video as a guide, and you're correct that there aren't capote coats that you can buy in the catalogue, however the Amador Coat from outlaw pass 3 *is* a capote coat
Yeah, the last time I streamed somebody brought this to my attention and I was able to look at it and give some assessment. I talk about it for a few minutes on the stream, but sufficed to say, it's a capote. Wish it was a permanent catalog item though. Aw man, you should get it. I wasn’t much interested in the western era until I started playing it. It’s usually on sale.
historical accuracy of old west gangs in red dead redemption?
i don't know about that, the wild west was pretty tame in reality, in the beginning there were no fast ways of going to the west like trains because the railways didn't extend that far so you had to go on horseback or on a wagon, so anyone who traveled to the west and back to the east embellished the hell of out their experiences because they could
@@detectivepayne3773 well yeah i know of that but i want to know the accuracy of like dutch’s gang aka the wild bunch or the del lobos a mexican american bandito gang
mostly ex confederate outlaws sometimes war criminals lol
@@ben9262 yup i want to learn more about those bushwhackers and learn the about accurate the gangs were like the del lobos and learn about their clothing
So are we just not gonna talk about homeboy kicking a bear in the ass repeatedly?
"Let's get into the Mountain Man's pants." I'M DYINGGG XDD
I love seeing your comments repeatedly popping up, Magic. I'm just watching you tour all the videos and leaving breadcrumbs everywhere. Love it man. Thanks for diving in, brother.
@@ManvsHistory I appreciate you a lot, man. Wish I had an Xbox to participate in that event that's going on, I have PS4, but I still love your content, keep it up
@@booubus635 Don't fret, Magic. I'll be streaming it on Twitch!
@@ManvsHistory Awesome!
@@ManvsHistory Also bro you just reaches 13.1K Subs today!!
Hugh Glass was 6'4 man be playing with the wrong Grizzlies, what a man
I made my online character as if he’s a 50s western tv show character known as the frontier man with my clothes being the the blue frumpy shirt, the brown sobol hat, the light brown/orange carver pants, and the brown workman’s boots and play the game like it’s his story or show lol
Please continue these. And please talk about there guns traps daily living and all equipment for the mountains.
Duke, have you seen the latest 'Hunter & Trapper' vid? I go into some of this in more detail.
I’d like to know what weapons would have been accurate and what hunting methods
Unfortunately the main method of acquisition was trapping- and we can't do that in RDO. Personally, I'd love to see a .50 cal Hawken Rifle added, though. If we can't trap, R* should at least let us hunt with a Hawken. That would pacify me for a while....
@@ManvsHistory what gun do you use for your mountain man
@@caseyhageman1201 I use the bolt action, but it is in no way accurate. I just dig it.
@@ManvsHistory ok thanks that’s what i use for him to
@@caseyhageman1201 springfield rifle would be ypur best bet
I stumbled across your channel today and it just drives my desire to be a history teacher
Go for it, Ethan!
If any of the mountain men worked for Ashley’s 100 fur traders they had well groomed hair and no facial hair the company was actually very strict on this rule anyone that worked for them had a clean shaven face and Jim bridger worked for them for many years as did most of the famous known mountain men
>Mentions Hugh Glass
>Gets mauled by a grizzly
Hopefully they put it back out there with some more color options soon.
@@ManvsHistory I mean they made standard version of the pittman shirt via the Stringham shirt, so I can only guess it's a matter of time through enough feedback on R*'s website perhaps
You might want to mention the carver pants. They're buckskin and have the fringe too.
