I'd recommend just picking clothes that seem like they fill a purpose. Think utilitarian. If your character is a female cowboy, dress like a male cowboy would. No need to differentiate based on gender, at least imo.
I noticed you had spoken a bit on how it was hard to create an outfit with a proper military-like overcoat or blouse, however there are atleast two possible candidates that could be used for suitable stand-ins if you want to have a little creative liberty, Both the Hopsmere Cardigan and the Windcliff Coat have close to a navy blue color being just a shade or two shy of the Frontiersman Shirt in color.
Yeah. I know the story had Arthur grow up with Dutch's gang, but too bad that Arthur wasn't ex-military instead and had a Calvary uniform to use on occasion. I gave up trying to outfit Arthur that way and now I'm just trying to dress him up like their upperclassman fellow outlaw (I forget his name) or as a lawman. LOL
Its sad that Rockstar had the many chances to make RDO great, especially with your accuracy cosmetics videos. Your passion into this game will never be forgotten.

Howdy, so I made a outfit for a battle of little bighorn trooper. I used a black cutter hat, a narrow neckerchief, a blue hunter jacket, a blue bibbed shirt, white Avery gloves, a brown bolger holster for off hand, a brown bolger gun belt, blue tuxedo pants, and black cavalry boots Is this historically accurate?
I wonder if it's possible to make a historically accurate soldier in RDO from the actual time period it takes place in 1898. I just want this specifically, because I love the krag-jørgensen in game and irl, because I have my great great grandfather's krag carbine he was issued when he joined the cavalry in the Spanish American War. Sadly we don't have the model 1898 krag or the carbine in game, just the model 1892
I actually have a famous quote from an Irish ancestor Be it wolves or savages id rather take my chances with the wolves than be captured and skinned alive the funny thing is my ancestors come from Ireland and Cherokee Native American my ancestors moving inland from new york and the respective dead rabbits gang on3 found love with a Cherokee squal and thus having a family in 1890 im 20% Cherokee
A few of these (in a carbine version) were tested out in the SW against Apaches in the 1890s, so I suppose they technically were present. Just not standard issue is all. Anyway, glad you mentioned them.
@@ManvsHistory It wasn't crtiszing, just wanted to share some knowledge i had. Considering the rifle also has some Norwegian orgins, technically it kinda has orgins in all of the Scandinavia countires. Anyway, I love the Krag-jørgensen so just wanted to share. Could you possibly make a Historically Accurate RDO video for female characters? I'd love to be able to make a few, but find it hard with some of the male outfits from it looking weird or not having a certain shirt/pants.
Actually the extended barrel on the Cattleman would match the 7.5in standard SAA pretty well. That model is often called the 'Cavalry' model for a reason. The standard barrel ingame is more like the 'artillery' model which is 5.5in I suppose you might use the long barrel to replicate the Bisley 12in SAA but that has a totally different grip also.
The blue carver pants has a yellow line going down the pant legs but it’s made of a fringe material. If you can overlook that you’re golden in the pants department.
Been rocking that blue workshirt military fit for a while, it's probably one of my favorite RDO shirts tbh. Also, didn't know the yellow neckerchef was historically inaccurate. Will have to change mine out for a black one. Great vid though, love your content!
Thanks, Tyler. I too love the blue workshirt. More than the frontiersman shirt in fact. Just looks much more rugged and authentic. Yeah, you can use any color of neckerchief- but they were not standard issue, so folks just purchased and wore what they wanted. Blue, red, black, and white were common. Hope that helps!
This is correct. If someone were to make an accurate character for 1898 then the bolt action would be the main weapon due to its use in the Spanish American War and Roosevelt's Rough Riders.
I just started the Trader role in Red Dead, i feel so damn manly. I even added a beard to my character, one day i need to find some players to protect my cart before i risk BIG hauls. Love the channel, keep this beautiful content comin'!
Great vid This probably isn't the place but why is Red dead online worth playing over single player. I'm on my 3rd playthrough of the single player which I adore but so far have shyed away from the online given its negative reception by many. Does it enhance the experience or damage the atmosphere of the world and how many things are there to do, I've heard it hasn't been getting the most support. I'm a history buff so this makes the online in theory seem particularly appealing as you can do more what you want than being somewhat constrained by Arthur's character arc/story, being able to create your own historical grounded character. Thanks.
I actually enjoy the online more than the story mode. It’s more of an rpg with the character customization and stuff. You can do your own thing, and not really interact with other people too much if you don’t want to. You can tackle missions with much more freedom than the story mode. You aren’t constrained, role playing wise, as Arthur. You get to be whoever you want in the giant rdr2 map. There are more solid gameplay loops in the online mode. I wouldn’t say it’s better because the economy is ridiculous, but it is a different but familiar experience. You can play it single player for the most part. The story missions require match making for another player or three, but it’s actually pretty fun to play with other people.
I would like to point out that I found out the studded pants in clean blue look PERFECT to m1883 trousers, I have a pair irl and the color and cut looks identical, way better than the clerk pants

Loved the video, I made my soldier outfit a long time ago by looking up pictures online. This is just my personal choice if anyone is interested: Hat: deadham hat (came in outlaw pass), military scout hat in brown or stalker hat in black/brown. Neckwear: a brown neckerchief, I chose the darker one Shirt: navy blue pardon shirt Suspenders: cross back detail suspenders in tan/brown Gloves: workman's gloves in black Frontiersman belt (if you have it) Pants: light blue clerk pants Chaps: tan military half chaps Boots: black cavalry boots (I'll try to post a picture of my character) Again, love the video man, I surely will make modifications to my outfit to make it more historically accurate.
What other historically accurate period archetypes do you plan to cover in this series? Would any of them include female characters? btw I love these videos so much, they teach me so much about the wild west I'd never know otherwise!
I believe so far the film Hostiles is a good representation of the relationship between members of the US Army and the natives they fought. It’s not always black and white and yet war still remains ugly no matter who fightings.
I should I have brought this up back in your lawman video. But from what I’ve been told my great grandfather on my grandmother’s side was a high sheriff back in the 1800s (too obvious I know) and settled down in Montana after he married a native woman. I keep guessing she it was Crow, Cree, or Cheyenne or others in that territory. Could’ve been either. But she left for the reservation. As far as I know, my grandmother’s daddy wasn’t a lawman, but a trapper for a long time before he left south for Arkansas where I was born and raised.
@Man vs. History What about the wealthy people that lived during this time. I like to dress to impress and I would like to make mine look rich and historically accurate.
I’d love you to look into the everyday life of citizens around the world, story mode would probably be best for this, but making a video about the lives of lawmen, hunters, citizens, etc, seems like a great thing to look at!
A substitute for the yellow stripe of the trousers is to use the Carver pants when they are in stock. the yellow line is a bit meh but it works fine. I wish RDR2O had the frontiersman outfit gear for the PC.
Would Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders uniform be considered historically accurate for a cavalry character here? Also, if anyone is interested in getting together and doing soldier-y stuff on the Xbox 1, let me know!
The Frontiersman Outfit from the Outlaw Pass is Red Dead's equivalent to the Rough Riders outfit, another great option is to couple this outfit with Bill's Dedham hat from the Outlaw Pass to create a Teddy Roosevelt-esque outfit.
I can't tell you how much I love these videos. Not only do you clearly love this game, you're also incredibly knowledgeable without ever coming across as stuck up or conceited. I learn a lot of cool stuff in these videos, honestly I would love to just listen to you talk about history for six hours lmao. You present the facts as is with no bias or sugarcoating, acknowledging the bad things America did while also highlighting that our country was still rather young and developing at the time. Thank you, my friend! Mighty kind words. I strive to stay true to history- not political correctness. I get all my info from scholarly books, the Library of Congress newspaper archive, the British Newspaper Archives, and museum experts. I take all that and distill it down- trying to make it simple, accurate, and interesting.
I don't like being "that guy", so I'll beg your pardon, but the union cap in RDO is based more on the so-called 'forage cap'. It's distinguishable from the kepi by the floppy crown. The reason for this was so that when campaigning, troops could go out and forage for food, and simply use the hat as a bucket. These were also issued to troops on both sides of the civil war alongside the kepi

Can you make a video about historical accurate hispanic outfits??
Not only do I like that you tell us what items are accurate, I really really love that you give us historical backgrounds because they’re just so interesting and informative! Love all the hard work you do for us! And im really happy to see your channel growing ! Keep it up!

He's done a Mountain Man. Basically the same thing

If Rockstar was to make a Battlefield like multi player game with the theme '' General Custer last stand 1876'' they would be rich!
For anyone wondering about the song in the beginning it is Johnny I hardly knew ya and I suggest you listen to the one by the Irish rovers. Also great video I’ve been wanting a soldier outfit.
It might actually be "when johnny comes marching home" an American version from about the time of the civil war
@@ReconRookie It has to be, because i immediately started humming along "the ants go marching three by three, the little one stops to take a pee"

Could you do a Historically accurrate woman?
I'd recommend just picking clothes that seem like they fill a purpose. Think utilitarian. If your character is a female cowboy, dress like a male cowboy would. No need to differentiate based on gender, at least imo.
@@TurtleGamers1 yeah cause historically they would just wear dresses and that’s boring
@@dunbass7149 Yea exactly. It doesn't really fit the type of player character a female one would be in RDO

If you don’t have the frontier’s men shirt, the navy blue work shirt and navy paddon shirts are good alternatives
Shame how limited the options are for soldier cosplay
LOL
Video Idea: "How to Create a Historically Accurate Lumberjack".
Its sad that Rockstar had the many chances to make RDO great, especially with your accuracy cosmetics videos. Your passion into this game will never be forgotten.
Please make a video on how to make a historically accurate Baron, I think that would be a really interesting one

Howdy, so I made a outfit for a battle of little bighorn trooper. I used a black cutter hat, a narrow neckerchief, a blue hunter jacket, a blue bibbed shirt, white Avery gloves, a brown bolger holster for off hand, a brown bolger gun belt, blue tuxedo pants, and black cavalry boots
Is this historically accurate?
Man vs. History: Yellow Neckerchief is a Hollywood thing and not accurate
Me: *still wears Yellow neckerchief*
It does look good...
Sadly we don't have the model 1898 krag or the carbine in game, just the model 1892
it is
Oh man I’ve been waiting for this for so long now. You should make a Instagram so we can ask you direct questions that would be easier to access
I would like to point out that the Krag-jørgensen in game Bolt Action rifle was also used by the US miletary after buying the right to make them.
Thanks for the reply i hope you are having a good day.
@@Captain-Axeman Ha! Of course not, man! I didn't take it in that way at all!
Can confirm. I have a Springfield armory 1896 model myself. Amazing rifle
The standard barrel ingame is more like the 'artillery' model which is 5.5in
I suppose you might use the long barrel to replicate the Bisley 12in SAA but that has a totally different grip also.
You're correct here, Kyle. At first I thought the extended barrel was longer than 7.5", but upon reflection, I think it's correct as the cavalry 7.5".
Nothing has changed in the military. 95% of my time in the marine corps was spent doing boring, tedious work for low pay 😃
The pay is low, sure, but when youre stuck in the desert with nothing to buy it's no surprise that it really starts to add up
The blue carver pants has a yellow line going down the pant legs but it’s made of a fringe material.
The bolt action rifle would also be history accurate during the time period it is set in
This is correct.

We need a Historically accurate Chinese immigrant or historically accurate Miner. I love your channel man you put in so much effort in each video
I make one using the soldiers from the movie spirit as inspiration, those are accurate?
Great vid
This probably isn't the place but why is Red dead online worth playing over single player.
I recently found out I'm related to George Custer Armstrong so I might attempt to recreate him as my character in rdo sometime

You should do some historically accurate gun customization.
I'd say any gun customization in RDO is historically accurate, as guns were heavily modified by enthusiast, and you could see a lot of variety
Time and again I always mention that the level of work put into these videos is outstanding and shows your true commitment to feeding us fellow enthusiasts knowledge on the old America. Awesome video we need more military esque stuff in the game like a calvary saber or a old style military shovel.
Loved the video, I made my soldier outfit a long time ago by looking up pictures online. This is just my personal choice if anyone is interested:
Hat: deadham hat (came in outlaw pass), military scout hat in brown or stalker hat in black/brown.
Neckwear: a brown neckerchief, I chose the darker one
Shirt: navy blue pardon shirt
Suspenders: cross back detail suspenders in tan/brown
Gloves: workman's gloves in black
Frontiersman belt (if you have it)
Pants: light blue clerk pants
Chaps: tan military half chaps
Boots: black cavalry boots
(I'll try to post a picture of my character)
Again, love the video man, I surely will make modifications to my outfit to make it more historically accurate.
What other historically accurate period archetypes do you plan to cover in this series? Would any of them include female characters? btw I love these videos so much, they teach me so much about the wild west I'd never know otherwise!
Thanks for making this, I’ve been wanting to make a historically accurate soldier for a while now.
You should do a Mexican/bandito video next
I believe so far the film Hostiles is a good representation of the relationship between members of the US Army and the natives they fought. It’s not always black and white and yet war still remains ugly no matter who fightings.
Agreed. I loved that movie. Great costumes as well.
Yes sir!
@@justsomewitcherwithalongsw4233 Very cool!
I figured I’d share what I knew. Your videos are inspirational msn.
@Man vs. History What about the wealthy people that lived during this time. I like to dress to impress and I would like to make mine look rich and historically accurate.
A suit. Like just go buy a custom made suit and I’m 95% percent sure you would fit right in.

I’ll pay thousands on clothes just for this to come out way cheaper and looking a lot better than the outfits I made
The Frontiersman Outfit from the Outlaw Pass is Red Dead's equivalent to the Rough Riders outfit, another great option is to couple this outfit with Bill's Dedham hat from the Outlaw Pass to create a Teddy Roosevelt-esque outfit.
If I may ask, where do you get all your information from? You seem to have a lot of access to old books and stuff like that. I've always wanted to do a bunch of digging on my own on various topics, but the internet is not always a reliable source.
Could we have more common female character roles/occupations/outfits? This is so cool, and I want more!

I requested this video like a day ago but im sure others requested it too, but these types of videos are really interested

If you ever wish to make a civil war outfit and use era appropriate firearms there's only five in game that being the LeMat and Navy Revolvers, the Volcanic Pistol, and the Carbine and Litchfield Repeaters.
Not entirely true there was so much variety in the Civil War any weapon would be used if in the era of course. But these weapons took up the majority
