    Finally, there is a video about the Sirius 35 DS out, which is not just Torsten in each and every picture, but someone knowledgeable (and so much nicer to look at) and to listen to ;-). It`s in German but Marie has done a very good job on the English subtitles you can switch on in the settings (in the right hand bottom corner of the video). If you like have a look to her Video “The perfect boat for sailing around the world: boat tour of the Sirius 35DS at boot 2020 boat show” ruclips.net/video/NcVVsEnUBUc/видео.html&lc=z23rwfehynfqijkxb04t1aokglalr2efuitr2ccvdausbk0h00410.1582479078244963

      That was a good video, and she did indeed do a good job on the subtitles... But I still enjoy your demonstration videos, Torsten. Your love for what you do reminds me of my favorite teacher in high school--he taught the advanced math classes and even though I have never liked math he was so energetic and excited about the subject that I couldn't help but enjoy his classes. Same thing here, although in this case, I already enjoy sailing yachts. 🙂

    Very well prepared video, envisioning what it would be like to own this vessel in real life. Loads of practical examples which suggest a wealth of experience from different boat owners and design iterations. And at the final part of this video we look at the amazing maneuverability in harbour. Anyone who owns a boat knows how much stress (and damage) you can get from leaving and entering (new) harbours. This sells the boat for me

      Thanks for the compliments! Wind and water generators, solar power, LION Batteries are quite common in and on our boats by now and electric drives have been projected a number of times. It´s fantastic for some usages...still not for all or one needs to be very enthusiastic....to cope with the extra costs involved. Having a generator on board anyhow for other usage helps in the picture. With the car industry in it full speed not this is for sure becoming more affordable in the near future. Another excellent presentation (as well as the 40 DS video). I'm never going to be in a position to buy, but I have a question: is there an option to fit an electric induction cooker? If so, would this require additional batteries or would the existing on board power be sufficient?

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts  3 года назад +5

      yes, induction cookers are possible but still unusual as few of them have the right fittings to hold pots and pans safe in rough sea and be cardanic. You also would than most likely go for an electric oven as well and this does require some additional power either in really big batteries (most likely LION) and/or an additional generator to keep up if you are not on shore power and want to slow cook your steak ;-) All possible and solar power, wind and water generators are common today but there are pros and cons to discuss at length before making this choices...

      I am sorry there aren´t. I noticed that you will get some for real cruising boats, but normally they are only made for racing boats built and sailed on minimum weight and in the same sail configuration. The programs are made for IMS-racing-yachts. The tools getting this charts are not laid out for non planing cruising sail boats built heavier the race boats with solid materials to last and equipped very differently with equipment, keel and rig configurations. But if you like to judge the sailing performance I am happy to list you some quotes from sailing magazines...

    Want to outfit for x Atlantic...... Possible and how much?

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts  4 года назад +4

      Well, the boat itself is already built for it but then you will like to cover some areas pending on your route and priorities: Route is the first thing to address as for a one-off Atlantic crossing with the trade winds it`s not much special you really need in terms of equipment and its mainly safety features which need upgrading (especially if you like to join the ARC). If you want to go further or across Pacific and Indian Ocean it’s a different story. There you will have to think more about water maker, wind-vane self-steering and power consumption in general. We also do rain water collectors, SSB radio systems, dehumidifiers, air-conditions, filter systems, all kind of power generators. I would also have the cockpit arch for more solar cells, antennas and a Bimini which could be integrated into the arch or freestanding and could cover the whole cockpit, even while sailing, if we add a targa-style arch at the end of the deck saloon with the mainsheet on top. A number of this things are up for discussion pending on the type of sailing, sense of comfort and security and the route you have in mind. Lots of things can also be prepared and come in steps pending on how far away your starting point of the big journey is when you have her built. We like to be your advisors on this route and through the whole process, but we do generally built a lot of boats ready-to-go-anywhere directly after commissioning

      This would be great, I live in Scandinavia and would really want to prolong our sailing seasons by installing some sort of fireplace (seen some amateur installments on RUclips, but I'm curious about more professional alternatives). Not sure if a webasto heater is sufficient enough for winters.. used it on some cold spring/autumn nights but not more than that.
      Truly a remarkable design this, I love everything about it! Some real thought put into designing this!
      A part of me would like a larger cockpit but I would give that up for that amazing saloon! The more I think about "traditional" designs the weirder they seem, this seems much more logical! You do not want to shut nature out completely! Sort of is a catamaran design on a monohull in many ways, really like it!
      How is the sailing performance on this model?

      Yes, absolutely. Our boats are available all around the world and been sold to 28 different countries by now. But we like to work directly with all our customers (and therfore do not have distributors) as we think this is to your best benefit: a. we like to build a live long relationship with our customers; b. we know our boats and many versions and possibilities best, c. you spare a lot of money for the dealership, and d. we are the most competent partner for all your questions and service requirements. .....but saying this: our customers in all this sailing areas are still our best ambassadors!

      I would have happily invited you to meet us directly to the recently cancelled boat show in Vancouver next February...but we do have customers in Canada with boats you might be able to visit (in 28 different countries by now) and in Canada. One 35 for example was launched in Montreal, now sailing in the golf of Sankt Lorenz and a Sirius 40 DS (which have been collected by their Canadian owners in Germany and sailed straight back to Vancouver via Canary islands, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Galapagos, Micronesia, Hawaii a few years back) can be seen in Vancouver (and has been at the Seattle boat show in 2020)

To convince myself, I checked the results by tacking over and over again. She tacks through less than 80°", Palstek: “The Sirius 35 DS is not only convincing as a high quality, seaworthy and well equipped cruiser, but also is agile and easy to handle even in strong gale conditions. She is a well-controlled sailing boat with a surprising potential for speed.“ There are more test verdicts in our brochure at www.sirius-werft.de/wpsirius/en/yachten/35ds/prospekt/. LION Batteries are quite common in our boats by now and electric drives have been projected a number of times. It´s fantastic for some usages...still not for all or one needs to be very enthusiastic.... I have many more thoughts on them. What`s your perspective or questions?

    • @sasquatchhadarock968
      @sasquatchhadarock968 2 года назад

      I like the idea of a silent motor but I'm not a fan of lithium's toxicity or its flammability. Also, a diesel engine can be used to generate electricity on calm/cloudy days. I don't know how practical it would be to do a diesel generator paired with an electric prop motor and Lion battery bank, but it might make the neighbors happier if you have to motor around in early morning/late night. Certainly an electric drive would allow at least some motoring in the event of fuel shortage if you equip sufficient solar/wind generators.
      I am afraid this is all hypothetical anyway as I am nowhere near able to consider purchasing a yacht. Maybe when I retire? Ah, but it is fun to dream.

    Single handed yachts may help, to keep a marriage intact after `his` promises about a first `first time sailing`, in truth rainy as cold weekend ...for `her`...
    It`s tragic: Because `He` did not lie:
    `let`s make a trip only in the bay` ...worsened by some unexpected bigger waves from outer sea,
    when `she` already got very wet..., before being `forced down to dark` for cooking,
    meanwhile `he`, of course captain, must steer the boat...
    Big smile, after watching this video: Torsten Schmidt, you are a wise man... :)
    Because this boat is life on water so much - for both !
    As a Hobie-14-maniac since more than 30 years, gone through changing relationships after inviting women `on board` at bad weather... therefore:
    `Ladies and Gentlemen, if you can... Mind this boat !
    It`s gendered, will say: It`s fair to both :)
    For `Him` (a wide machine-room) and for `Her` (warm, dry, pregnant again...).
    I suppose: a Sirius can, but must not be steered single-handed by lonesome cowboys,
    because `she` is still there, enjoying the trip as well :) ...as their children, what age ever !
    And that`s brilliant.
    Congratulations, Sirius: What a wonderful ship !

This is Germany’s biggest in-water boat show and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon.
      In the meantime, we welcome visitors to our yard where we have all the models available for sailing. If visiting us is not convenient, we have a vast network of customers who keep their yachts in many different parts of the world. Should be nice and powerful with an electric motor delivering instant torque to that prop-wash feature. Powered by an electric vehicle capacity battery recharged by solar, wind, and regen (big prop required) you are off the grid fully. A marine diesel should be more than the cost of such a battery pack, I would think, with almost no maintenance issues given a proper BMS.

    Like the concept of this boat with two caveats. 1. I don’t like not having any cover over the entrance to the saloon in bad weather. 2. No cover over the cockpit is also not my cup of tea.

      Me too but if you watch the video on how these boats are made the graphics displayed on the computer in the design department show a model with bimini and cover.

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts  3 года назад +2

      Yes, we have options for gear holder cockpit arches, targa-style arches, enclosures and Biminis and sun covers for partly or full sun protection. You can either opt for a freestanding, or an in an cockpit arch at the back integrated Bimini for the aft part of the cockpit above and around the helms man position. This could be extended in harbours or anchorages to cover the front part of the cockpit as well, when not sailing. Have a look at 1:00 and 1:50 onwards in: ruclips.net/video/MQgRIVw-kPg/видео.html There is also comes a simple cover dirctly covering the sliding hatch as standard.
      For those seeking full sun protection everywhere in the cockpit, even while sailing, we do offer a targa-style cockpit arch above the deck saloon. This has also the mainsheet attached on top which than could be operated by a remote controlled rewind winch. With this setup you could shade the full cockpit while sailing either in connection to a free standing or integrated Bimini. It’s a very nice feature for very sunny areas and living on board all year round...but works against rain as well ;-) ....and could easily closed in front with a kind of a transparent Sprayhood. If it`s just the cockpit enclosure this can be lower and independed from any arches.

      Please find some generall information and test verdicts about the performance here: This are solidly built boats so not on the racy, light weight side but the hull/keel/ruder/rig design is as a modern cruiser/all-rounder/comfort in heavy weather/fun to sail design should be in our picture. I´d love a Sirius 48 DS as well, please :-), but if we believe the many testing magazines our Sirius 40 DS already offers the equivalent interior space of a 47-48. But honestly, there will be a larger Sirius once...but we do struggle to understand where you will need more space. She already features 3 spacious double staterooms, two heads and the workshop. Apart from waterline length for more hull speed we are still searching for additional rectifications for going bigger. Maybe a dingy garage instead of the davits? … or three instead of 2 of the 3 cabins big enough to be master cabins? …more ideas anybody???

      I do like the Garcia Exploration as well for it´s dedication to one purpose. It is acutally very comparible to our 35 DS! The Garcia Exploration is a fantastic boat in many ways but if you compare her usability and comfort inside and in the cockpit it’s a good example for how much space you lose with an aluminium construction. In this prospects it’s very much comparable with our Sirius 35 DS even being a 10feet longer (and accordingly more expensive) yacht. But there can a lot to be said about aluminum vs GRP, we think that GRP is the better suited and more versatile material for go-anywhere yachts under 60 feet

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts  3 года назад +5

      Thank you for your comment, the fact is, the windows are stronger than the hull!
      Safety, on our yachts, is of paramount importance. This is why we thoroughly researched how we could add hull windows, not just any old way, but in our Sirius way. We also didn’t want small portholes, we wanted windows!
      Like the hulls that reach 50-70mm thick of solid GPR laminate (depending on the model) or the 30mm thick marine plywood doors that are cut from the bulkheads, we build our yachts to last. If we were going to add windows in the hull we weren’t going to make them as strong as the hull, we would make them stronger.
      Before we could add large windows, we had to ensure the area around them was reinforced, this makes the area where the windows are the strongest area of the hull thanks to the extra structure added around the window frames. Then we looked into the material for the windows. For this, we chose ballistics-grade polycarbonate, the same material used on military vehicles, armoured vehicles, and police cars. But we’re Sirius so we use 12mm thick polycarbonate, thicker than you’d find on armoured cars and military vehicles etc.
      To make sure we had the right material we had a 140kg (300lb) body-builder attack the windows with a 3kg (6lb) axe, they remained intact.
      The hull and the windows were strong enough, but how the windows are fitted into the hull was just as important. We looked to the aeronautics industry, and we use the same bonding techniques used on aeroplanes and helicopters.
      When we say they are stronger than the hull around them, we are serious. But the strength isn’t what makes the hull windows special. It’s the view you get from them when you’re relaxing in our mid-cabin.
