  • SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners.
    The Nordhavn 56 motorsailer, or “trawlersailer”, is a proven ocean crossing yacht (2 Atlantic crossings) and a natural bridge between sail and power. The heritage of a trawlersailer comes from two decades of PAE experience building long range trawlers and fifteen years of Mason full displacement sailboats prior. Many said it would not be possible to offer the best of both worlds - you will need to get aboard Perelandra to see for yourself.
    Perelandra is hull number six in the series and by selecting the pilothouse helm only layout, this larger interior option provides a more spacious layout with two cabins and two heads. She has preferred cruising closer to shore up and down the US eastern seaboard including visits to the Bahamas. Her well-balanced sail plan offers excellent underway sailing performance. If the wind disappears, you can continue on course under power with her whisper quiet Lugger long range continuous duty diesel engine.
    Offered for sale by her original owners, this is an incredibly well thought out yacht with details too numerous to list, she exudes pride of ownership. Perelandra is available for inspection by appointment only as the sellers continue to enjoy her while searching for a new owner.

    I clicked LIKE before I even started viewing and here's why:
    1. It's a JMYS video, I know I am going to enjoy it even before I start.
    2. It's a Nordhavn, my favourite :)
    3. And it's a Nordhavn 56 MS, I love this boat but there is very few video's of them out there because there is only, I think, 9 hulls......and because of this even less up for sale!!!!
    4. I wasn't wrong! What a ripper yacht :) Quite different to any other N56MS I have seen with the enlarged galley area and the "submergerd" engine room.....but I think I like this layout the best.

    I delivered a 56MS from Puerto Vallarta to New Zealand. It was comfortable and easy to sail even singlehanded. The controllable pitch prop makes it an excellent motorsailor. Downwind the boat sails well, and we did 85% of the trip under sail only, upwind you definitely want the engine in gear, but with sail assist and the prop pitched correctly its relatively economical. The build quality is high and the systems are robust.

    Sold, I know, but I still enjoy watching your videos especially of the 56 MS or better if you ask me, the 56 TS. A Nordhavn trawler with a sail plan and the addition of the Hundestedt (sp?) propeller, just makes this vessel so practical and efficient to me. My dream boat, one I cannot afford sadly.
    While I am partial to the sailing cockpit version, I am impressed by what the prior owner did with the layout of the galley and by reconfiguring the guest stateroom by providing for a day head which I feel is very beneficial.
    And BTW, I like all of your tours which are appreciated because you point out things that may be overlooked by some. Although you did fail to make mention of the two bags of Splits pretzels in the guest cabin, my favorite…lol!

    I've always wondered how much can such a big boat make on sails alone?
    I assume that the purpose of the sails is mostly to supplement the engine to reduce fuel consumption and extend range, but in case the engine malfunctions, without a second engine you have to rely on sails alone, and it's such a heavy boat.
    All in all I have to say I really like this nordhavn, never understood why there aren't more of them around.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  9 месяцев назад +3

      Darkest: The sailing in light wind is the real news, most sailboats can handle a blow. The sails are to enjoy peace and quiet and travel far, but you can also balance/offset with the engine propulsion. Sails are a primary or back up, same with the Lugger main. There should be a lot more of these, I am a very strong proponent of the Nordhavn 56 motorsailer and wish there were dozens of them out cruising.

    Jeff, you are my favorite yacht salesperson. Your last couple years of walkthroughs are by far the best, especially because of the ‘boat legend’ that shows the camera angle and location. So good. Been watching your videos since you were with Nordhavn specifically.
    I love the 56ms, so pretty and useful. Personally I would want the sailing cockpit for nice cruising days but I get to each it’s own. Love the hull #1 vids you made. ‘Kindred Spirits’ (2nd round) and Pitch perfect’ 56ms looked like a good ones and good price. I would have to name it ‘someday’ apparently. Blueish hulls look great on the 56ms.
    Are they/will they (Nordhavn) still making these? Guessing tariffs possible issue.
    I also really love your videos of Diesel Duck 382 ‘Jubilee’. I think those are gorgeous and very safe passage makers. That little guy was an amazing price for what it was.
    Thanks again for the great videos and you are making future yacht owners when you do them.

Diesel Ducks are fun sail-assisted trawlers too, we have helped several clients with them. I enjoy doing the videos and they mean more when I hear from people like you, so thank you. Absolutely gorgeous in her old school style. I do wonder about the use of freshwater toilets with a fairly small water storage. I know she has a large capacity water maker but why use so much energy to make water when salt water is free. 66cm head room in the engine room is problematic, especially for older owners, changing filters would be a back breaking task. Induction cooktops are the very best but they use a massive amount of energy and all those lead acid batteries must weigh a “ton”. More solar panels, regenerative gearbox/prop and LiFePo4 batteries would lessen the need for the generator.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  8 месяцев назад +6

      8949. Thank you for outlining your thoughts. What type of boat do you own? I appreciate your thoughts, but, like everything on a boat there is always another view or way. Freshwater toilets are very common and for a sailboat of this size 350 gallons is a lot of flushing power. I find the engine access superb compared to the engine "lockers" on so many sailboats. AGM batteries are safe, practical and yes, very heavy - this is a full displacement boat that has 17,500 pounds of ballast in the keel - the battery weight is not a factor. The next owner can do all of the upgrades you suggest if they feel they are needed, this yacht has served this couple for over a dozen years and the solar and Lithium upgrades were not available or as common when Perlandra was built. Check out the generator hours on our website, it has not been overworked! Thank you for watching

    Jeff - these motorsailers seem to be much less cost per foot than “normal” Nordhavn yachts. 1) is that true 2) do you have any reason why? Do they have known higher costs or issues or is it just people want either/or but not both.

      Ystebad: A new 56 is on order and is over $2.5 million. That is a fair price, numbers wise, they just built fewer of this model and even though she is exquisite, the popularity never achieved the fame of the trawlers built by Nordhavn. Perelandra is a great value, you can see the thought and care lavished - you never know how long a boat will be available when she hits the market, we only need one buyer and we do have a lot of interest.

    I’m not sure about the motor/sailer thing, so does it increase the range or can you actually go anywhere with just the sails up, what’s the stability like in 20 knots and couple meters?

    • @Rodrifuuu
      @Rodrifuuu 8 месяцев назад

      Sail power only should give you around 6 knots in decent wind. You can do sail only passages in the right conditions.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  8 месяцев назад +1

      4U: The sails allow unlimited range as long as you have wind. If you don't have wind the Lugger engine will carry you as long as you have fuel to burn. Yes, the mainsail up will add to stability. She would love 20 knots of breeze and a good ocean swell to tackle.

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  8 месяцев назад +1

      Rod: In a 20 knot plus breeze with the sails adjusted properly I believe you will sail a lot faster than six knots but don't have real world data at my fingertips to share.
