It´s also being in the lovely position to have our boats built in the exact way I would do it for myself...and I do work for a company with 50 years of tradition and experience in doing just that. ...with this, all work related things become fun ;-)

      @@NiCsince2011 Thank you very much! I am glad you like our 31 feet model as well! The 310 is indeed surprisingly spacious. PBO`s (Practical Boat Owner´s) verdict in 2011 was: “This is an amazingly big little yacht in which everything has been thought through with exceptional thoroughness and put together with obvious skill and care. It would take a week of testing and a report long enough to fill an entire magazine to do her justice. Despite the Teutonic logic and precision that underlies behind every aspect of the design, however, she does exude a certain charm. … She offers so many big-boat features in terms of quality, space, attention to detail and scope for customisation that I suspect a lot of people will decide there’s really no need to buy anything bigger.” ...hope to meet you in the not too far distance! All the best for your 2021 as well!

    Great real world experience. The boat appears to have a great build quality, and fantastic use of space. Thanks for posting!

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 3 года назад +1

      Thank you for pointing out. The fantastic use of space is actually kind of very easy "cheating" as we simply use the widest part of the hull - where each boat has the most space - in a length of about 11 foot (3,5 meters) double. Thanks to the raised settee, we do not only get the great 360° all-round view, but also the space for a very spacious master cabin and the practical technical room at the very same position. The pantry gains the large floor compartments with an unbelievable amount of storage space... and whoever is cooking, is still able to look out of the window and/or steer the yacht at the same time. So in order to compare our yachts in terms of space (and price) with other yachts, you could include the gained space in your calculation. A Sirius 310 offers already the space and the living area like on a 36 or 37 feet yacht. On our Sirius 35 DS you find room like on a typical 40 or 41 feet yacht. The 40DS can be compared with the roomy feel, storage space and the lifestyle of a yacht around 47-48 feet

      Yes, did you noticed Joe filming on with the integrated microphone of his cell phone, while there where about 25-30 knots of wind outside (5:50)! It really is a different world and feel of safety!
      The saloon is on exactly the same level as the low cockpit and is indeed a quite calm place to be in rough weather conditions. Last year, after the Southampton boat show, we had two full weeks of test sails in above 28kn of wind - for every single day! Going inside, the moment you are out of the most busy waters outside of the port, is an fantastic experience! The insolation of the whole boat but also the Polycarbonate door and double glassed windows, as well as the soft motion makes 30kn feel like not more than 15 inside. After some tea, coffee and sandwiches - and mainly because someone said: "well, there is the Isle of Wight coming up - shouldn´t we do a tack?" you put you oilies back on and the moment you open the door - you are back in 30kn of wind ;-)

      I had first seen it ...and got the idea from a Canadian water plane as the captain ask me sitting next to him "if I like to have a try" and canted the pedestal over to me ;-). But yes, it´s a great feature, offered by the world`s leading producer of steering systems: Jefa-Steering. I always wonder why we do not see it more often. Do these boats do ok as deepwater cruisers?
    Or are they mainly designed as coastal/fjord sailing? Shallow twin keels have me wondering, not having seen them before on a cruising boat.
    Beautiful and thoughtfully designed layout.

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts Год назад +1

      Yes, indeed. They were developed for this! There have been a number of curcumin-navigations on older yachts even. Some Atlantic crossings. This very 40 DS was collected by the owners in Germany and sailed straight back to Vancouver via Canary Islands, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Galapagos, Micronesia, Hawaii crossing 17.000sm.

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts Год назад +1

      With Sirius Yachts you can choose between various keel versions including different length of fins, real swing keels and twin keels. Performance in rough weather conditions is pending much more on the hull shape and level of weight stability, rather than the keel version you are choosing your boat in, but that`s a different question (if of interest, I am happy to explain why we did what we did).
      The twin keels perform likewise in rough seas as they have the same stability rating as the deeper fins. But they also carry more weight to archive this, which makes some motion even more gentle

    I’d still buy one. Awesome boat. But the head thing is weird.

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 10 месяцев назад +2

      No, there are two heads. The one en suite to the forward cabin (or the midships cabin, if you specify it that way) is the private head of the owner. The second one is the day-head which is located in the central position right about the stb keel for very little motion at sea. It is designed with the toilet facing forward and you will sit kind of tuged in but safe even in heavy seas. It is accessable directly from the floor in front of the saloon. It also has a shower cabin included.

    While there’s much to like about this boat the position of the main sheet as well as the coach roof winch and line controls both make for awkward dodgers and biminis…not good for sun and rain protection…needs a better solution there. Also it needs to be in a 45´ version to reduce that boxy look. YMMV

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 2 месяца назад +1

      I can understand that you are curious about a dodger or Sprayhood....but only partly….as the main idea is going in, when the weather is foul, instead of staying outside and getting wet ;-) (if you like, do have a look to ruclips.net/video/U7Qby0MZ6m4/видео.html at 05:00). So protection wise it`s not much needed as there is hardly ever coming spray back into the cockpit due to the 40cm of overhang of the roof up front which acts as a spray breaker. The hull shape helps even more as the boat do not slam. The door sits back on rubber sealants about 20cm under the overhang of the sliding hatch and could be used without opening it to go in. The decks house acts as a protection for the cockpit in terms of shelter form wind, but yes, from about 250 Sirius Decks Saloon Yachts about 5 have specified a sprayhood. A different thing is of cause a Bimini:
      We have options for Biminis and sun covers for partly or full sun protection. You can either opt for a freestanding, or an in an cockpit arch at the back integrated Bimini for the aft part of the cockpit above and around the helms man position. This could be extended in harbours or anchorages to cover the front part of the cockpit as well, when not sailing. Have a look at 1:00 and 1:50 onwards in: ruclips.net/video/MQgRIVw-kPg/видео.html
      For those seeking full sun protection everywhere in the cockpit, even while sailing, we do offer a targa style cockpit arch above the deck saloon. This has also the mainsheet attached on top which than could be operated by a remote controlled rewind winch. With this setup you could shade the full cockpit while sailing either in connection to a free standing or integrated Bimini. It’s a very nice feature for very sunny areas and living on board all year round...but works against rain as well ;-) ....and could easily closed in front with a kind of a transparent Sprayhood

    Question about the dual keel. It’s great that it is better equipped to deal with tidal ranges that a typical sailboat would not handle. But, how much of a concern is there with ending up on an angle and either putting more weight on one side, or potentially tipping over? I’m assuming, stay away from rocks and find some nice soft sand to “anchor” in and it’s not that much of a problem?

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 4 года назад +13

      Well, staying away from rocks would be my advice as well ;-) ...but that`s all about a few basics of how to choose your spot. Should be foreseeable calm, as you will be stuck there for 5 to 10 hours and you had to come off again in good enough conditions as well.
      When we were deciding on drying out or not, we were still in Possession Sound on our way to Deception Pass, but needed a place for the night, so we looked for the timing, wind and tide (which is all very convenient shown with graphs on modern chart plotters) and focussed on Elger Bay on Camano Island. A look to the satellite image showed a topography, which looked shallow and flat on a wide area, as well as gravel or sand from the beach. We were well into the beginning of a falling tide and approached it slowly, watching the depth sounder. If you see this franticly springing up and down and lots of rocks around the coast it`s not a perfect spot, but if it`s a very slow rise and the beach, you are near to, looks even, it`s perfect. So it did and we motored until we were shortly before touching and had found a nice looking spot. Than you circle the place a bit, as you should do when choosing your anchorage and when the deep sounder looks still ok, this is it.
      Ideally, prepare your anchor to lay it out if you need it as safety to help you pulling you back out, when the tide comes back (if you do not like to put it on your shoulder and walk it, to where you like to position it, what I often do ;-)). Than you could anchor and wait until the water is gone, but I love to "run" her aground on slow speed. You get a better sense for the sea bed and can use rudder and engine to push her a bit on, once you have touched the ground. This also gives you the possibility to turn her the way you like to have the wind or evening sun in the cockpit. At this moment you would also get the ultimate feel for how she levels and how firm the ground is

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 4 года назад +9

      As - unlike a swing keel - your prop and hull stays far off the ground and well protected, you do not have to worry much: Sand, gravel, small rocks (as long they are, in general, level enough) are fine. On sand and gravel you won`t sink in at all. It`s surprising how firm wet sand becomes, compressed under the (lead) keel bottom, having the boat standing on top of it, rather than sinking in. On a concreate plate or firm rock, the boat would stand free supported on both keels, without the rudder touching and you could walk and sit everywhere on the boat, without the danger of tipping (we tried it once with 12 guys, jumping up and down on the back and transom). On sand or gravel the keels would sink in 20 to 50mm and as the centre of gravity, in longitunal direction, is behind the mid position, the boat would always sink in a bit more at the back. Hench the rudder, which has a Delrin sheave to the hull as an compression point and half skeg, as well as little foil (of foot) at the bottom, would take some little weight to form a tri-pod stand. To make it safe when approaching a spot, the rudder is 80mm less deep, than the bottom of the keel

      I have also dried out many times in mud, in harbours and rivers. Depending on the density you would sink in (without noticing) until you are on the waterline again or, if its firmer, the hull has found enough surface on top of the mud. Yes, in this cases, or on less ideal ground you sometimes wonder, if you might have to spend the night in an odd angle, but since 10 years now, the majority of boats we built are twin keels (as they have proven nearly the same sailing performance, than the deep fins and offer so much more possibilities) and I have many customers in tidal areas loving to dry out - like I do - and from all this hundreds of times, I have never experienced or heard of an uncomfortable night, because of ending up at an angle

      I think it`s an fantastic possibility to enjoy nature even more. The absolute stillness of the boat, when the water is gone, the total change of the landscape around you, literally every 10 minutes and the ability to take a walk over to the next island, on the beach, or around your boat, harvesting some oysters on your way back and being amidst of seals and birds ...and all for yourself...is spellbinding!

      What an amazing response. Thank you so much for the detail you put into that. I'm starting my search for a live aboard cruising yacht and came across the Sirius DS. I haven't seen one in person yet, but the videos and attention to detail (like you're response) has gone a long way to selling me on this boat. Again, thank you! Hopefully, the Annapolis boat show will still be on this year and Sirius will be in attendance.

    No traveller on the mainsheet - fixed point. That's got to make downwind sailing a lot harder, no? Otherwise a dream boat really.

      I personally do not like traverlers in cockpits forthe health hassard and spase you lose. Most smaller racing boats of the last 15 years have done away with them too as there are other trimming devices to twist and trim the main sail, but as a race sailer I don konw what you are looking for and why. Mainly for those seeking full sun protection everywhere in the cockpit, even while sailing, we do offer a targa style cockpit arch above the deck saloon. This has also the mainsheet attached on top (and could have a traveler) which than could be operated by a remote controlled rewind winch. With this setup you could shade the full cockpit while sailing either in connection to a free standing or integrated Bimini. It’s a very nice feature for very sunny areas and living on board all year round...but works against rain as well ;-) ....and could easily closed in front with a kind of a transparent Sprayhood...if one likes that...

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 3 года назад +1

      Well, I guess it´s always various things you like test and to archive. You are very welcome to come out with us in a real blow. After last year`s Southampton boat show we had two full weeks of test sails which around and above 30kn of wind on every single day. Some of those customers probably would have loved to see how she handles in a light breeze... In this very situation we had dropped the sails earlier when the wind went off and the daylight was fading fast, as well as a difficult passage approaching, when the squall hit us. If the journalist on board would had loved to try sailing again, we would have discussed this with the rest of the interested party on board. But in the circumstances, all visibility gone and all this crab pots around, I doubt that other sailors would have opted to set sails...

      If you like , there is a nice comparison test out here: Part 1: ruclips.net/video/I3ehg7AlPuE/видео.html&lc=z22kzxirvv2ecpgxc04t1aokgwlw1ccnzcmqxf5mron4bk0h00410 and part 2: ruclips.net/video/c2LGkWXm6iA/видео.html If you are looking at it on a PC or laptop you can switch on the subtitles in the settings in the bar under the video on the right hand side. It´s a bit hidden as you have to click Settings/subtitles/German(auto-generated) and then have to go again to settings/subtitles and can now chose your language. That’s only as good as auto translation goes, but does have some humor in itself ;-)

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts 3 года назад +1

      What´s about it? We were running on it for a good deal of this 2 days and especially when steering from inside! Autopilots are the most essential equipment parts on board and this one had a wind vane steering as well in addition (so with no power consumption at all)

    Disappointing as you can't learn how the boat sails in a blow if you don't sail it in a blow. Sir Francis & Sir Robyn didn't drop sail and motor in 30 knots. This was a waste of time...
