    I've falling in love with Sirius DS design since I saw Torsten's presentations on different video's on youtube (and I've seen them all). This one, takes it to another level where one can really picture how it would be sailing around the world on that wonderful cruising boat.
    When I was a kid (around 8 to 14) I used to go sailing with my father every other weekend or so. Now that I'm 47 years old, and watching this amazing boat, I dream on sailing again. Maybe one day!
    Congratulations to Torsten and all the Sirius team.

Enjoyed this days very much and hope to have her back on board at some stage! For me it would indeed be the perfect go-anywhere-cruiser and we do have a steadily increasing number of customers living all year long on board…some as their only home. Hope you can come back to your routs sometime soon!

    A truly wonderful boat, and - as ever - the presentations from Sirius Werft and Torsten is next to none! The Best I've seen. And Believe me; I've been around searching for the "perfect" full-time liveaboard and ocean capable boat (I know; there is not such a thing as the 'perfect' boat, but... Well, I believe You know what I mean 😊) And, having seen a lot, when it comes to the concept it represents, my dreamboat is still the 35DS, so I Can fully sympathize with the charming Marie!
    As indicated; my future plans goes in the direction of fulltime liveaboard up here in the Baltic area. As far as I Can see, the 35DS has no hull or deck insulation, but is that offered as an option ?
    Best regards from Denmark 😊

      Hi Christian, thanks for the many compliments! You made me red on my cheeks ;-)

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts  3 года назад +15

      Yes there is a lot of insulation in the very core of her build, she is indeed especially constructed for this. Building sailing yachts here in the North of Germany since 50 years now with lots of customers cruising Sweden, Norway and the UK - often living on board all year long this is our special expertise. Deck saloon windows are double glassed. She has a very sound insulation through the whole boat (up to 80mm in the roof alone, and including 30mm Divinycell foam in deck and hull) which is that good, that there is no condensation water at all inside. For customers which like to push boundaries with temperatures below freezing, we do add some extra insulation to the already existing one in front and aft cabin. I was living on this yacht through January and February in Seattle and Vancouver and it was very toasty ;-). We do have customers living on board in areas of thick ice on the water. Good thing is: what is good against cold works against heat as well ;-)

    Does Sirius Yacht consider a fully electric propulsion system with a big enough battery pack and lots of solar panels as a factory option? Clean and silent sailing, lots of extra energy for A/C, electric oven- stove, water maker...the way of future

    • @yarpenzigrin1893

      They can make whatever you like if you have enough money but electric motors will drain your battery pack very quickly so they're more suitable for docking maneuvers.

    Not only is this boat full of great design ideas, build to high standards and ergonomics, but I am really completely blown away with the accommodation, that you get out of this and also the bigger 40DS. I mean, I have seen 50 foot monohuls, which in all truth offer less accommodation, than even the 35DS do. Especially coffin like, compromised cabins are often a thing in many production boats, no names mentioned.

    Das schwenkbare Steuerrad scheint mir das wichtigste Detail bei dieser Deckssalonyacht zu sein, denn man muss in der Lage sein, auch im Sitzen während des Steuerns am hohen Kajütaufbau vorbeischauen zu können. Hier geht es nicht um Komfort, sondern um eine notwendige und pragmatische Lösung unter allen Bedingungen Ausschau halten zu können als Steuermann. Die Sicht voraus ist bei Deckssalonyachten naturgemäß etwas eingeschränkt. Daher ist die seitlich schwenkbare Steuerradmimik eine logische Konsequenz über die sich jeder Skipper freuen wird bei diesem Yachttyp.

  • @alexlau7115
    @alexlau7115 2 года назад +1

    self tacking jib + furling code zero for the win. jib is only there for close haul, code for close reach to board reach plus light wind conditions. with this set up there really isn't a need for a big heavy genoa.
    self tack jib is really really good as long as you only use them for close haul. soon as pointing fall off they arent as useful due to side and cut. but they are super good. it's just a paradigm shift in terms of how fore sails are used. 100% recommend over traditional set up.

    Please be careful by watching this Video. It will give you the Idea to want to own one boat of this brand. Fact is, there are no boats available at the market. You can't neither buy a used one nor a brand new. The number of orders for new boats is so high, that the company will not be able to fulfill your order with in years. The big break is, that the owner of the company don't want to move out of his tiny pity backyard factory. And he won't hire more people to do the job. To me it seems, this company is out of market.

      Grazie per le vostre gentili parole. Se si considera il diametro dei grilli forniti dalla Harken per attaccare il suo sistema block and tackle o il bullone a U su un viaggiatore della scotta di randa convenzionale, sono un diametro molto più sottile dell'anello in acciaio inossidabile di 10 mm di diametro saldato sul tubo in acciaio inossidabile a parete spessa di 42 mm di diametro, che diffonde i suoi carichi nel pavimento del pozzetto attraverso rinforzi in acciaio inossidabile a forma di U su un'area di 0,6 m per 1,3 m.
      😀
      Thank you for your kind words. If you consider the diameter of the shackles provided by the Harken to attach its block and tackle system or the U bolt on a conventional mainsheet traveller, they are a much thinner diameter than 10mm diameter stainless steel ring welded onto the 42mm diameter thick-walled stainless steel tube, which spreads its loads into the cockpit floor through U-shaped stainless steel reinforcements on an area of 0.6m by 1.3m. 😀

    Nice video and a nice boat. I’m a bit surprised that Marie would choose not to have the self-tacking jib; as the wind picks up it’s good to move the centre of effort back towards the mast, not forward as would be the case by part-furling the genoa.

      ...it´s also not very nice to the genua ;-) ...but if keeping everything maximal simple and to the necessary minimum you for sure could do with just a medium sized, furler reefing headsail and would spare some weight, money and complication on deck... might be a cruising plan question as well? Following the trade winds needs mainly downwind sails!?

    • @Marietim
      @Marietim 4 года назад +3

      Hi Paul, let me maybe clarify this a little: I like cutter stays as they make for easy switching between sails and possibly better performance (e.g. when close hauled). This setup is more of a Solent rig (hope I'm getting the terminology right), the inner forestay is pretty close to the outer forestay. In a cutter setting the inner forestay can be as far aft as half-way between mast and outer forestay. Tacking with a Solent rig is a little more difficult because you'll have a hard time pulling the genoa through in between the two forestays. So you have to either jibe or roll in the genoa, tack with the main only, and roll the genoa back out again. Since I am pretty lazy I would opt for a single headsail (or a cutter stay which is further back, if that's an option at all). But you know, I was looking hard for negative points on the boat and this is all I came up with 😬. Cheers, Marie ⛵

      We have owned other similar sized boats and hands down our favorite sail configuration is a large fully battened main (with slab reefing) and a minimally overlapping 110% jib with vertical battens. Add a good off wind sail such as an asymmetric cruising spinnaker from the fixed bow pulpit and you have a 3 sail diverse sail plan. The beauty of the Sirius line, from our perspective, is that the boat has many options and a builder willing to consider individual owner wish list. All that said, self tacking small jibs make coming about with a sun downer a much easier proposition:)

    Marie - I really enjoyed your video review of the 35 DS at the boat show and so glad to see you giving additional thoughts on the Sirius yachts! It is great hearing some of your actual cruising experiences and how a Sirius would handle the various aspects of cruising based on your real life experience.
    Just like the detailed thought Torsten puts into every inch of his boats, you see it again here in the latest videos helping prospective buyers like myself really understand aspects of these wonderful yacths.
    Even though you can get a much more realistic understanding of Sirius yachts from the videos in this channel than you can with most other yacht videos, I still wanted to see these in person for myself so flew from San Francisco to Germany (as part of a summer vacation) to visit Sirius yachts, see the manufacturing process and experience the boats in person including a test sail. After being enamored with Torsten's videos and his yachts, the in person experience did not disappoint.
    I first came across Sirius when looking for a boat where my wife and two younger daughters would be less prone to getting sea sick if the weather was a little rough as well as a place they could be warm when it was cooler out. When Torsten took us for a test sail on the Baltic, it was a bit blustery and chilly so my wife went into the deck salon, laid down next to the table and took a nap. She was cozy, warm, and didn't feel the slightest bit sea sick. We found a winner!
    After looking at countless boats and hearing stories of challenges with quality on production boats (or experiencing ourselves when chartering), I was blown away at the lengths Torsten and team put into truly building these boats to last so much longer than production boats. Whether it is the thickness of the wood (all cut from the same tree with grain perfectly aligned between doors/cupboards, etc), the weight of just the rudder post itself, the huge beefiness and reinforcement put into the stiffness/thickness of the hull, the many ingenious and extremely usable features throughout the boat or back again to the fact you can have a spacious cockpit and/or be inside with true 360 visibility (instead of so many DS boats out there where as soon as you sit down, you can't see out the windows above you or most you can't see forward), it just never ceases to amaze at a place you'd want to be at anchor, at the dock or on passage.
    Thanks again for your passion for your craft and building such a phenomenal product. We can't wait to have ours!

      Great review! Just wondering if you are working with a dealer to deliver the boat to the US and have it commissioned here, or take delivery overseas? I'd love to have one of these fine yachts here in Hawaii eventually, maybe after cruising the Pacific Northwest for a season.

      Hi Paul, I've been looking at options to sail it over several years in different trips to get back to the west coast while putting in charter in desirable locations (Baltic, med, BVI) when I'm not using it and doing multiple trips to explore those areas. Having it shipped over is another faster option. There is a 40ds owner in Vancouver bc who sailed it home and he said it was a wonderful experience including stopping in Hawaii on the way back. I did a trip up in BC along the sunshine coast area and this boat would be fantastic for up there. I'd love to make my way up to Alaska along the inside passage, this boat enables travel to so many places in comfort!

    Wonderful! I’ll be looking for Marie’s channel, and also I live the twin keel design. Where we live on the Hudson River in New York, the tide shift is dramatic, and shoaling is a major issue. Our boat draws only 1 meter, and there have been times where we have touched a sandbar in a channel that was supposed to be 10 meters! 😳
    We like to anchor in close to the islands to swim and picnic, and being able to dry out the hull for maintenance would be fantastic.

    Beautiful boat. But How do I put up the bimini? Why didnt the mainsheet go to a traveler on the cabin top?

    • @SiriusYachts
      @SiriusYachts  4 месяца назад

      We offer three different options for the mainsheet. Our standard is a mainsheet attached to a mainsheet horse above the steering wheel. But if you want a mainsheet-free cockpit and a bimini that effectively covers the cockpit from the cabin to the stern, then we can offer you a targa arch steel-GRP-construction.

    I disagree the opnion of Marie Schneider about the self tacking jib.
    We changed our Dehler 34 (built in 1992) for an Ovni 385 in 2003.
    We had the self-tackking device on our Dehler but never used it. Afterwards we regret this very much because it makes short or single handed sailing so much easier. The ship was also much faster than using a mostly reefed genoa. Anyway she was sold and we had to deal with this.
    Our experience with a mostly reefed 150% genoa on the Ovni was the same and after one season whe changed it for a high aspect.
    2 years ago we changed the high aspact for a 110% jib. and I believe this is the right sail in our case.
    The selftacking device on our Ovni we only use in windy conditions when the jib is reefed.
    The sail layout on the Sirius looks perfect to me for single- and short handed sailing and would alway choose for 2 headsails. Maybe choose for a removable inner forstay.
    Our Ovni is very suitable for our use and drying out.
    So why this comment? If I had known Sirius back than, the decksalon could have been the gamechanger.
    No doubt I would choose for the lifting keel option. (If I had the money ;-))

    Our favorite Sirius video. The 35ds is on our very short list but at this time (COVID-19) visiting Plon from outside the EU has slowed our decision making process and the opportunity to actually sail the DS. This video has given us the best insight on how the boat sails and addition insight to how Torsten/Sirius approach clients and build. A wonderful blend of product quality and client service. Great video!

    Thats truly a new standard in yachting. Thats an honest company, typical bespoke German where every square inch is methodically thought out. I would have the biquille bilge keel tri rudder for northern Europe Ireland Scotland France where the range in tide is large and the ability to dry out is paramount for both cost and safety. Any irishman would tell you that the best place to ride out a north atlantic gale is on a bar stool with your boat outside in the carpark. The bilge keel sitting on a triangulation just about achieves this. Well done.

    Great talks, great people and a great boat. Around 23min he said sth funny about steering the boat from inside and whether that counts as "sailing". It reminded me about my former long list of motorbikes. In the end I always got attached to the ones emphasising the pure mb pleasure (sporty Ducatis for instance) rather than the well equipped do-it-all bikes. Motorbiking, sailing is just not sitting home comfortably. And the purpose is very different. It definitely can (should??) be a bit uncomfortable, as long as it's exciting and fun in the first place. Those over equipped boats or bikes tend to kill that fun. Too heavy, too big, too comfy...
    Doesn't sell well, but I'd still go for a fast, light and fun boat rather than for a floating house.
    Opinions... 😊
