Matthew McConaughey's character is one of the most underrated performances in the film. He is the perfect stereotype of a successful Hollywood agent. When he gets so hung up on the fact that Ben Stiller didn't get his Tevo. When Flaming Dragon calls and he immediately thinks its another agency that Stiller has signed with and fired him because Stiller is his main source of income, and of course when he takes so much time to decide to save Stiller instead of letting Grossmen buy him a private jet. Its just perfect!
yeah Bill is underrated. Like that "Good" reaction when tom cruise said a nutless monkey could do his job at 09:53, his response, body language and the way he walked out was perfect, always LOL at that one
The Asian guy who played the Flaming Dragon guy on the phone stole the scene from all of those A-listers. The confused look he gives after Les Grossman chews him out was the perfectly executed punchline to the entire sequence.

Les Grossman has GOT to be one of the BEST characters Tom Cruise has ever done. He's so far into left field from the numerous roles that Cruise has had in his career and he nailed it out of the park.
There aren't too many roles where Tom Cruise plays a complete character. Usually he's just "Tom as..." but this is one of those rarities where he crafts an entire character and inhabits him totally. One of his most genius performances.
They missed their chance to make a Les Grossman movie it'd never be made today just like Tropic Thunder itself never would be. Comedy is over because of how offended pathetic people get at literally anything. Lines like "I'm gonna rip your tits off" would cause a firestorm these days. If they were gonna make a Les Grossman spin off it had to have been done by around 2012-2013. Such a massive shame.

The subtle things in this movie are the funniest shit. Like Bill Hader coming in to brief Les Grossman on the terrorists they're dealing with and the first thing he mentions is their profit margin 😂 it informs the characters and their motivation so much

They are sometimes hostile to the Burmese government, but the Burmese government also pits them against each other and they are heavily armed. After the Chinese civil war, the Chinese nationalists put 10,000 troops in Burma on the Chinese border. They stayed for ten years and funded themselves with drug money. Though withdrawn in 1959, not all of the troops went. Some stayed behind and became a sort of aristocracy in the drug trade. The Wa people, the Palaungs, some Shan groups, are Burmese, but they primarily speak Mandarin. So in Tropic Thunder, when the guys get taken by a Mandarin speaking drug cartel somewhere on the border of Burma, Thailand, Vietnam.... That is actually legit.

In my opinion, Cruise deserved an Oscar for this performance. I saw the movie without knowing who was in it, and I honestly did not recognize him until late in the movie. Still one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time.

The best part of Les Grossman is how little screen time he had. That's some amazing control. Perfectly crafted and executed character that wasn't overdone. Same goes for a lot of the characters in this movie. Give any of the characters their own movie, Les Grossman included, and it would overdo the appeal and take away from the original masterpiece.

Tropic Thunder is one of the funniest movies ever. We can all thank Ben Stiller for putting this movie together. He also directed it. He didn't put it together by himself of course, but had a huge part in making it happen. Tom Cruise as Les Grossman is still legendary. He really showed his versatility as an actor with this role.
The whole movie studio/movie producer angle was all Tom's idea. The original script did not have any movie studio/producer scenes or characters. Ben gave Tom the script to read and Tom read the script and Tom said "You're missing one element...the movie studio side of it"...Ben went back and rewrote the movie in a week and let Tom read it again...Tom really enjoyed the Les character and asked Ben if he could play it because he has a good idea on how Les should be....the rest is history.
When Four Leaf spits out his apple chunks after being sarcastically complimented and then berated by Les...that's one of the most hilarious things in this entire movie, I don't know why that exchange cracks me the hell up so much XD

You can tell how much industry experience Cruise channeled into this role, this character feels so alive, it's indistinguishable from reality. Like they got the actual exec funding Tropic Thunder to step onto the screen.

I'm sure you've heard the same rumors I have that Tom based the character at least partially on Harvey Weinstein but couldn't say that at the time because Weinstein still had career ending level power so he changed just enough so it would play like the same kind of parody that Doctor Evil is.

Les Grossman has GOT to be one of the BEST characters Tom Cruise has ever done. He's so far into left field from the numerous roles that Cruise has had in his career and he nailed it out of the park.
There aren't too many roles where Tom Cruise plays a complete character. Usually he's just "Tom as..." but this is one of those rarities where he crafts an entire character and inhabits him totally. One of his most genius performances.
They missed their chance to make a Les Grossman movie it'd never be made today just like Tropic Thunder itself never would be. Comedy is over because of how offended pathetic people get at literally anything. Lines like "I'm gonna rip your tits off" would cause a firestorm these days. If they were gonna make a Les Grossman spin off it had to have been done by around 2012-2013. Such a massive shame.

There are several ethnic minority Burmese groups in Shan State who have been running heroin rackets for decades. They are sometimes hostile to the Burmese government, but the Burmese government also pits them against each other and they are heavily armed.
After the Chinese civil war, the Chinese nationalists put 10,000 troops in Burma on the Chinese border. They stayed for ten years and funded themselves with drug money.
Though withdrawn in 1959, not all of the troops went. Some stayed behind and became a sort of aristocracy in the drug trade. The Wa people, the Palaungs, some Shan groups, are Burmese, but they primarily speak Mandarin.
So in Tropic Thunder, when the guys get taken by a Mandarin speaking drug cartel somewhere on the border of Burma, Thailand, Vietnam.... That is actually legit.

The best part of Les Grossman is how little screen time he had. That's some amazing control. Perfectly crafted and executed character that wasn't overdone. Same goes for a lot of the characters in this movie. Give any of the characters their own movie, Les Grossman included, and it would overdo the appeal and take away from the original masterpiece.

Tropic Thunder is one of the funniest movies ever. We can all thank Ben Stiller for putting this movie together. He also directed it. He didn't put it together by himself of course, but had a huge part in making it happen. Tom Cruise as Les Grossman is still legendary. He really showed his versatility as an actor with this role.
The whole movie studio/movie producer angle was all Tom's idea. The original script did not have any movie studio/producer scenes or characters. Ben gave Tom the script to read and Tom read the script and Tom said "You're missing one element...the movie studio side of it"...Ben went back and rewrote the movie in a week and let Tom read it again...Tom really enjoyed the Les character and asked Ben if he could play it because he has a good idea on how Les should be....the rest is history.
