For all you kids asking boot camp questions, show up and be ready to follow instructions to the T.. boot camp is simple, the fleet is where things get difficult... boot camp is where you have everything done for you, your told when your getting up, and even have someone get you up, chow is already cooked and ready for you to come eat, school is pre planned and even your free time is already planned out for you...you don't have to do much of anything except learn how to follow directions without being told twice... boot camp isn't scary...all your doing is learning the basics of walking and talking like a sailor... when you get from boot camp and A school then you have a general idea of what you are supposed to be doing and how to act when you show up at your command...just pay attention and follow directions and youll be invisible..don't listen to what I said and you'll stick out and RDC's will motivate you to follow instructions...have a great time and great lakes..

i got here from watching stolen valor videos and here is my 2 cents on basic training from an army perspective. he is 100% correct about the "do what you are told part". i do slightly disagree on the showing initiative part though. my second way to "survive" basic training would be to "blend". i would say the top 85% of our class was treated about the same, volunteering only got you more work. the bottom 15% were definitely singled out and pushed harder than the rest of us. I would also add a number 3. and that is to understand your drill sergeants. understand that their goal is to graduate as many people as possible, and work as little as possible. lol, "work as little as possible". we had all 3 of our platoons drill sergeants working 14 hours a day for the first 3 weeks, 6 days a week.

There is no secret or short cut to basic training. You are not going to learn advanced war fighting skills. It is basic break you of your personal habits and teach you the basics of military life, most of what they teach you in the first half of training you will never use again. It is just stuff to drill Attention to Detail, and Follow Orders and Try your Best. Leave the drama at home, leave the attitude at home. To succeed do not be hte nail that stands out in either a good or bad way. Those who stand out will get hammered. You want to be like camouflage and blend in. Be there to help the entire group succeed, anything you can do to make the group pass or succeed will help everyone pass, making you valuable to everyone else. If you super shine above all others at the cost of others the rest will shun you. You may hate folks your in it with you, its only a short period of time. Suck it up, get through it, dont complain. Its just a game, the stuff dont make sense when your doing it, just do it. Only thing you can really do prior to going to training is do fitness training. Run, Pushups, Situps and whatever else that the services fitness training may have. That is the only pre-training you can really do that will help you at all. The sooner you can reach the fitness standard the easier your life will be, just one less stressful checkbox pass you wont have to worry about.

You forgot to mention Austen’s #1 boot camp tip: sleep with your eyes open, literally don’t close your eyes while you’re sleeping. Miss you dude, glad to see you’re doing well. Oh and I 100% remember the Ellsworth eating noises, had me dying.

Three things I would add are 1: Keep your mouth shut. 2: Never volunteer for anything and 3: Never laugh at the company commander. Number 3 will be the hardest and it caused me a lot of grief. Every time the CC would get in somebody's face and start tap dancing and screaming in 12 octaves it was all I could do to keep from laughing at him because I knew it was all an act. R. Lee Ermey in "Full Metal Jacket" comes to mind. But, I went to RTC San Diego in 1967 and I don't think the Navy does that these days. Now they give you "time out" cards and if somebody hurts your feelings you can sue them and get counseling and attend sensitivity training for the rest of your life.

im not in the military but i want to one day enlist but i feel like one thing you could've talked about(only cause i see it alot from other videos an well also military motivation quotes) was not giving up my cousin is in the navy atm an he remembered the only thing that was really keeping him going was he had learned to never give up an keep pushing forward he also dealt with his father always being strict an stern so he said that actually also helped him understand why cause he had to change his mindset from a civilian life to the military like life an i think im going to use that type of motivation to keep me going when/if i decide to join when im done with school
