- A journalist spends 3 days going through several challenges at Parris Island boot camp after being invited by the Marine Corps to document the transition a recruit goes through from civilian to Marine. (Video by Amanda Steen)
Thousands of civilians complete boot camp every year. Except they do it for 3 months instead of 3 days
Spot on.
Hank Hill they didn’t show the part where half of them wash out. What type of boot camp is this
@@tyronesimpson3975 half? Not even close... maybe 4 or 5. Boot camp is a guaranteed pass as long as you shut up and color
We had numerous recruits get dropped from our platoon and either recycled into other platoons or get sent to MRP (Marine Recovery Platoon) and most of the MRP recruits get discharged after a while and sent home. We also had 3 recruits in our company die in boot camp and 1 suicide attempt.
@@christopherjaekle3576 and when was this?
They had the audacity to laugh on that bus...bruh
And when the DI was giving orders
They had a good time because they're civilians, they were babysited. The fun stops once you enter the PI for the whole 13 wks and at the beginning of your service. You laugh when the DIs are talking to you and "he will pt you until hell freezes over". For us the time that we spent at PI or San Diego was and still is a very serious experience. A high % of Marines will tell you that they'll never ever want to go through boot camp again but all of them will say that they don't regret it, it's the beginning of our new life.
SEMPER FI!!.
Did she jst say that she can do the same as the real recruits do smh
3 days is not 13 weeks Ma'am.
"Persmission to speak!"
"SHUT UP!"
They should rewrite the title to "My fake ass experience at marine boot camp"
Amend that to "My fake ass 3 day experience at marine boot camp."
This is so fucking lame. She said in the beginning that she had zero military experience.....well no shit. That's the essence of boot camp, to start military experience
This whole video is dumb as fuck. Next person, "done? I'm not done here." Um yeah you fucking are done. When they tell you something you listne
Everything you do is a damn competition. How the hell you gone go through something and not try to beat someone. It's how you survive basic. Gas chamber? Of course they ain't going to tell you because it takes away from the experience. Learn the hard way
My thoughts exactly dude
Title is really insulting for the men and women who took on real boot camp for the title of US Marine.
Blades N Brass this is late, but no, it isn’t insulting, it’s actually pretty cool to see civilians volunteering to see what it was like, I don’t expect them to do it for three months that’s ridiculous
It's not that big of a deal... we know what they meant.. I'm not offended.
No it's not I couldn't care less
I didn't feel insulted. Not everyone can make it through boot camp, so it's cool to see civilians go through and at least see an extremely light version and still think it was tough haha.
I think that this is serous USMC PR. A lot of people aren't scared of serving, they're scared of failing boot camp. They erroneously think boot camp is the hardest part of being in the military, any branch. It's Public Relations, "see, it ain't really so hard homey, you can do it..."😁
There's no such thing as a civilian surviving boot camp. They come out the other end a marine or they don't make it through
Well, when you go out of high school and all. You enter boot camp as a civilian and survive it. If you failed the boot camp, you can't become a marine or soldier. You enter as a civilian, you leave as marine/soldier or failure to become one and remain as a civilian with experience. Not everyone survive the camp and ended up as a soldier or marine.
Dylanclone sooooooo they didn't survive it.
They just get sent back home, crying to their mommy :)
Same in the Army , your a soldier or not.
Simply put... Boot camp is a probationary period. If you are kicked out of boot camp, you are administratively separated, which means you don't exist in the military, period. Legally, you can't even claim having been in the service, other than you failed boot camp; so, why put that in a resume? As far as experience is concerned... ZERO! You cannot claim any of that, either. Military experience begins after graduation.
"Survives boot camp" .....spends only 72 hours training.
Jeff Cook "training"
It is the first 72 hours that are the most difficult.
And, of course, the crucible.
what? the first weekend is the hardest. receiving isnt bad. black friday though...
13 weeks 90 training days... that's surviving bootcamp... this irks me because I just got out of bootcamp
CloggedOpossum lol on our receiving I was in awe and amazement with the destruction that my DIs brought to the squad bay
Lmao that gas chamber was not anything like it is when ur an actual recruit , this was like camp cupcake
JMD skates its hard for people that have no military experience
Camp cupcake!!! Lmao!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Camp fucking cupcake
Love the Camp Cupcake remark... They didn't even have the gasses going when she went through.. lol
just saying but most people going thru boot camp have no military experience as well...
It's easy when you get to go home at the end of the day and have no obligation.
TheOnlyInformant We said that each night before going to sleep.
We said it every night too
Anne what if one of those people was a dog walker? Are you gonna say that a dog walker is as important as a grunt or even something like a professor, lol everyone can’t have a good star man
the gas chamber is a lot worse if your in the real marines. some people come out of there puking their guts out.
yeah because they are stupid and inhale when they take the mask off (in the chamber) and also when they take it off as soon as they get out.
Don't forget the three foot long stream of snot coming out of your nose.
In American military basic training, the recruits are told to take off their masks for a few minutes. Dont know if thats how it was in Russian Army Officers Course.
the fucken instructor wasn't even wearing a gas mask. I didn't see any gas in there compared to when I was in there for real.
They don't let you out for a while either, they wait until everybody is calm and collected, but see that never happens. There is always one fucking guy that's there, freaking the fuck out, so the instructors are like, hold em' in until they calm down.
These instructors are at 45%.. If that..
Probably less than that
2.3%
lostinbatcuntry .05%
0.0% 😂
>0%
Anyone else noticed she said hoorah? Instead of oorah
You notice the real Marines had no masks, that wasn't no gas chamber. That was an empty room.
its designed for after workout gangbang lol. sorry your marines had to suffer instead lol.
They literally just walked through the residue from the previous platoon’s gas chamber lol. I wish they would have given them a real experience, but it makes sense why they make it seem like anyone can do it, otherwise we wouldn’t get anyone to go through it
@8-Bit Andy MA....Master of Arms?
I just finished 13 weeks of this and they just gave them a really sweet, nice version of what we do! Real boot camp would break that girl
Hey dumbass, these are journalists/civilians trying to learn more about the Marine Corps. They're not enlisting, you fucking dumb fuck.
djokawari no shit dumbass he's saying this is not real experience of what it's like
djokawari yo don't talk shit to someone ready to kill... not smart man.
Dagz he's pointing out obvious shit that only a dumbass would point out. They're journalists, dumb fuck. Why the fuck would journalists undergo a full Marine boot camp? Pull your head out of your ass.
djokawari dude it's how she is acting like she can be a marine when she didn't really do anything at all😂😂😂😂
Waking up at 5am is waking up at an un godly hour? Wow I see some of us are more previledged than others. I wake up at 5am every day for work....
pamper momma boys in the army don't know what hard work is until that stop sucking on their moms breast lol.
Right? In boot camp you wake up to screaming at 4am every day, in a squad bay, not a comfy ass hotel room.
Maybe you should get a job where you don't have to work at 5AM? Fucking dumbass.
Well, you can't just get out of the military whenever you want to lmao. Some of us have given up the luxury of choice.
Jared Welch My grandpa didn't kill Nazis for 3 years for young Marines to whine about a RUclips video. I'm sure everyone in this video respected the military a lot more after this experience.
this makes me so mad. they act and think its a game or something
@Anne not really a good idea of educating
Life is a game.
And they were laughing. 2:52
it kind of is. it's like some cutesy thing the marine corps does to allow people to "go to boot camp"
This is not boot camp, it is called the educators workshop. Teachers and media come out, we show them a few little safe zone clips. They take a lot of pictures and selfies and talk about it to students. it's a win win.
Gas chamber looked like a walk on the park
Chris Andrade they aired it out that's why
Totally have to add, boot camp gas chamber is by far the WORST of your career. Its not to build trust in your gear, but haze the fuck out of you.
That's the civi version. When actual recruits go in, they shut both doors, make you do jumping jacks, then take your mask off. You're in there for about 10 minutes. 3 or of them without your mask.
they made me say my name, rank , and social security
We went in groups and EVERYONE had to be able to say their name, rank and company. And we had to wait if one person couldn’t do it. And then, they blinded us with the bright ass exit and gave us a second shark attack comin out!! We were flappin our arms, pukin and we all looked so stupid 😂 but we fuckin did it!! One guy couldn’t re-seal his mask and he threw up in his mask and all behind me. And then he sprinted for the exit and got the smoking of his LYFFEEEE
Cringed at the end when she said "hoo-rah" thrice...
"i grew up kinda in the country" wtf does that mean, did she live right at the city limits sign or something
Brandon Eason cough cough she explained what she meant pay attention there high speed
Kinda...
Kinda...
respect to the older people doing this
I swear to god if she says "like" ONE MORE TIME
*Says she survived boot camp* *Only goes for 3 days* SMH
I was a civilian when I got there too? I was a civilian for three months on the island...
its ooh-rah..get it right please.
YO!!! You got freaking SSGT Kramer as your instructor on the rapel tower!! that's freaking dope. I called him Hawk Eye from the Avengers haha
Lol thats funny he does look a little like and sound a lot like jeremy renner
You guys act surprised, Marines are made from civilans and most dont have any experience and some arn't fit but still make it. Boot camp isn't made for you to fail, its meant to build character and strength to prepare you for the real thing.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news when we signed the contract we become property
ted quest you can get a page 11 if you get sunburned enough to affect job performance... for damaging government property
All depends on your command and if your a problem child. We joked about it in Okinawa.
Stuff like this, is a complete joke. All it is, is a bunch of wannabe's who spend 1 day in gym class, acting like they're "Marine's". It's complete disrespect to the Corp. If they're such badasses, why don't they enlist & see how tough they think they actually are.
Jim Higgins
Re-Fucking lax.....
Jim Higgins this lady might not be doing this for the right reasons, most of the educators have a good reason. I've known school advisors that went to civvy corps camp so that they had a better foundation for recommending military service to kids who were interested. It's also to help the educators with leadership skills. The Corps is a crash course in leadership. It's also for mandatory public relations. Everything in this is at like .5% of the actual intensity of real boot camp.
"Corp." lmfao. If you want to be hard in the comment section at least learn how to spell MARINE CORPS. It's not the Marine Corporation, bud
well said spend a few weeks with out cameras feel the pain mental and physical
They'll literally die because they're so fucking out of shape. They can't survive. Just watching one of em' cry about how they been in there for no less than 5 seconds and "OMG i can't do this" For fuck sake. Didn't do shit.
When she got back home she probably slept for like seven days
Sounds like school "if we mess up a number we start at the beginning again"
im going to give that old man some props though he stuck in there even though he was behind
I don't think she realizes that this isn't a game
that Gass chamber was weak. the real one was way worse lol
this whole thing makes me feel kinda sick lol that was all way to easy she would die in actual training
5 a.m.? youre already failing bootcamp 😂😂😂😂
Ha this isn't even half of what they do," I'm confident I can do what marines can do." Yea no you thought
I became a marine in 1981 to 85,glad to get it under my belt!!
0:50 most of the other people didn't have military experience.
I'm laughing already "day two of waking up at an ungodly hour"
Galactic Fox Gaming yeah
Dear Amanda, it's not Hoo Rah. It's Ooh Rah! You're very lucky you and your colleagues got to do a try-out for USMC boot camp. I appreciate the fact that you also found a new respect for USMC Recruits. You found the courage to overcome your fear on the rapelling tower, too. You are an American. One of hundreds of millions. As Americans, we are the best. As Marines, we are also the best. Your Drill Instructor was shouting at you and to you: "You must never quit!" So, I say to you NEVER QUIT!
SEMPER FIDELIS! THROUGH THESE PORTALS PASS THE WORLD'S FINEST FIGHTING FORCE! OOH RAH!
I remember seeing the teachers coming when we were at the crucible and it pissed me off when they started taking pictures while we were fighting in the pits like we were some kind of tourist attraction. They get to see what we’re doing for 30 minutes, take pictures, then forget all about it
During my basic military training, meal time was only 15mins. That include queuing for food with 20~30 plus people infront of you, finishing your food, clear your utensil, wash up and form up.
The PG had 7 minutes, anybody after that was screwed.
that's where I would have died. I take like 2 hrs to eat lol. since my appetite is so little lol.
WB IsMe Before chow we would haft to go on a 3 mile run then get dressed for chow (breakfast).
@@maxasante5206 15 minutes is very generous
Lol did she really say that she could do boot camp??? This was nothing lmao!
0:59 no hate or anything but "5 am in the morning" CRACKED ME UP SO HARD. lol sorry
Lmao, 3 days = surviving boot camp... Makes sence!
most pathetic physical activity I've ever seen
doesn't everyone who enter the marine corps leave a marine? i dont understand why it says a civilian survived lmao
Not everybody.. some people quit or Get hurt.
It’s a joke, I think this guy gets everything that y’all’re sayin’
Some people quit, do some shit or make it out as a marine or get hurt and never make it.
Lime it said SURVIVED bootcamp. Have you ever been to bootcamp. Quiters dont make it through. People who get hurt go to mrp (medical rehab platoon) to heal then recycle back into training.
i went through Marine boot camp in 1987..120 started in my platoon. 49 of us graduated on time...So to say everyome becomes Marines is nonsense. You have to EARN that title. This little girl didnt
Trust me, what you went through was not the same at all. The obstacles you went through weren’t as hard and everyone was nice to you.
Um hope you know this is nothing compared to what the Marines do.
1. They have harder more complex obstacles.
2. in the gas chamber you dont walk around it and exit, You actually stay in one spot for a certain period of time.
I can't believe this. I was in that group across from the main building when they were being told to sprint back and forth. I still remember, we were all laughing at them. It was Marine week for us.
Where can people sign up for civilian boot camp?
This is maybe like a 5th of Marine boot camp experience. 😂 They moved so slow and didn’t get snatched up!
0:57 "five a.m. in the morning" lol
When I went through, it was 0400 wake up... sometimes with one hour of fire watch prior, and sometimes even an hour of shadow watch. I hate to say it, but you went through MAYBE 1/20th of what we actually endure. I give you credit though, you did the rappel tower (I had massive problems there), and the confidence course.. No obstacle course, no 8 mile forced march in full gear, no crucible, etc. etc.. But, not bad for a civilian.
She says she could survive the challenges marines face at the end
Lol
You can't do half the required physical activities
She didn’t even go through the crucible and she said that she could make it
Alright guys, I'm starting to feel like y'all are thinking she thinks she rates or some shit. It's very clear that the drill instructors were taking it very easy on them but they're not recruits ladies and gents. They aren't supposed to be getting hazed. In fact when I saw them in the sand pits I couldn't help but laugh at how stupid they looked. End of the day though, it's a video showing some of the shit that we did and how civilians kinda sorta cope and how they do it.
They were at the Bravo company barracks. I just graduated from bravo and if we were that slow in the sand pit we would be there all day.
PLEASE name the time and place when a civilian can compete with the U.S. Marine Corps in a Physical fitness test ...
This is a short, watered-down preview they went through. Some of them would've been crying by the first few hours instead of giggling on the bus like that if it had been real.
The point of being screamed at isn't to break you so you know who's boss. It's to break you out of that civilian mindset; a mindset that leads people to believe in the benefit of themselves and often times, noncompliance and a lack of listening skills. When you start boot camp, you leave your civilian life behind. You are no longer an individual. You are part of one mechanism, one machine, one unit. The constant shouting and quickly executed directions by the DIs are also to adjust you to extreme stress levels that often come with combat or dealing with large amounts of people or just situations in general while you're in active duty. Nothing to do with "letting you know who's boss".
I'm born and raised in SC and you know when someone tells you to do something you do it.
Lmao .... we were all civilians before we joined ...
isnt everyone who completes marine boot camp for the first time a civilian to start with...
I'm 16 and I'm going to parris island for a whole week can't wait should be crazy hell
This was cathartic to watch XD having experienced all this to a much bigger degree.
for real though.... can't put the narrating in the background? have to show her face and watch her talk every time?????
Will tubby make it..?? Find out on the next episode
M16Swaggr tubby???
My brother went to Paris island for his boot camp and when I went their it was FUCKING TERRIFYING. I have a LOT to look forward to when I join lol
All I could do is smile!! Amanda did not go through the real thing, but it made me smile.
LMAO when the guy in the beginning said SIT UP STRAIGHT i immediately sat RIGHT UP LOL
That was great, brought back memories
The female drill Instructor was my Senior Drill Instructor at boot camp!
This isn’t even half of what we go through... I wanna see her hiking!
i will be leaving for recruit training on the 3rd of April
Sophia Flores No way, me too. Going to SD. Have fun at PI
Good luck! (A little late, but today is probably your first actual day of boot camp)
Good luck
Respect from a future naval medical corps officer. Oorah and semper fi. I hope you make it through.
Did you make it?
The title should read "Civilian survives 3 DAYS at Marine Corps Boot Camp, Parris Island."
You have no idea. Keep living in your fantasy world Amanda.
Would love to see them get a real I.T. session ,Pft ,and cft .
I dont get the title, everyone that joins the military is civilian in bootcamp until the earn their respective title of their branch.
"5:00 AM in the morning"
These instructors are like great value brand compared to actual drill sergeants butter cup
The instructors were operating at 0.000001% at most
Awesome...now a really great story would be to sign up for a real enlistment..pick the shortest term available..and tell us if it seems a tad different..Go for it!!!
I think the title of the video is misleading. She got a small portion of what the recruits go through.
You survived a day.... not a full boot camp experience and let’s not forget the crucible
I just wanna know how many would have fallen out of the 15k, or let alone the 5k
3:55 mark was that the rose garden they were in? they must have changed it then cause when I was in it was actually a sand pit. almost like one would find at a playground. This one didnt even look an inch thick lol.
This is so fake how long did she do this not 3 months. Those drill insructors were nice. Easy workouts compared to actual boot camp. That big wall thing she would have been pushed down the damn wall
I don’t get the title. Civilian survives bootcamp ? A lot of civilians join the marines. They become marines after three months
I went to boot camp in the 80's and I'd like to go back for the 3 day civilian boot camp. I'm 55 now and I know it would kill me but I also think it would be fun. How do you sign up for this? I'd also like to sign up some of my civilian friends just so I could laugh at them.
Wow a civilian passes marine boot camp. I wonder how marines are made? Probably not through passing boot camp tho
everyone starts off as civilians
These people better not walk around saying they survived boot camp. A damn shame
The marines say “Oorah!” But you’re learning, I’ll cut you some slack.
0:59 she acts like 5:00 am is so early. Literally half of the United States gets up at 5:00 am or earlier for work.
I wake at 4:30 am everyday and I'm a junior in high school, 5 am is not am ungodly hour
How can I go through this? I want to see if I survive lol...
She did not just say "Oorah"..
