My dad was in the Navy and he too doesn't sleep under the sheets. My husband, however, was a Marine and he uses all the blankets and sheets that he can. He also doesn't make the bed lol.

Surprisingly, he was very soft spoken. I asked him was he always like this before his service and he said he was only loud and strict in service since it was a matter of commanding your recruits.
When I was in basic training the very first day with my platoon, the trainers asked for one volunteer, not saying why. I thought: "What can happen the first day" and raised my hand. They asked me where my bed and locker was and build the sample copy with my stuff. That was one of the best days in basic training for me. :)

As soon as the video played I immediately realized that this was my SDI, I attended boot camp in September of 2016 platoon 1100!! He was excellent SDI and so were the other DI's in 1100. To everyone of us it's an experience that we all are connected to we all shared in, it's one of hundreds of commonalities we all carry with us! Semper Fi.
Drill instructors are the best and most accurate life teachers. They are very detailed, very clear and have no patience for bs. They also don't take back talk from no one.
I remember a friend of mine, that served for some time, slept in our guest room. Next morning I went to check his room, the bed was so tight and well organized that you could toss a coin on it and would bounce right off. LMAO
When I was STC, we had nothing better to do all day than clean, read the knowledge, and tighten our racks. I once had a Drill Instructor pull out a coin and bounce it off my rack. He didn’t say anything, just moved on to the next. I like to think I made Drill Instructor Ssgt. Carrasquillo a little proud that day Edit: I just did the math and there’s a chance it was on the day this comment was made
Fun fact, in the swedish army that's how they check if the bed is properly made. The DI would toss a femkrona coin (Like a cent coin), and if it won't bounce then you're fucked
That DI was my SDI SSGT Granados that guy slayed everyone when given the chance and he kept kicking my damn bucket when mopping the floor on firewatch. Good times.
I was Army, not even Marines, and this is literally the nicest and most patient any Drill Instructors / Drill Sergeants will be in the first week when they're teaching you this stuff. IRL, after the second time not acknowledging them, there would be a 10+ minute smoke session. If it happened a third time, the whole squad or platoon is going to know about it. At the rate she was resisting the instruction, she'd be lucky if her arms even worked enough to make a bed when it was all over. You definitely don't want the Drills to know your name or face in the first month.

you can make a whole channel of her just going around the military bases doing tasks for 5 minutes to try them out while getting yelled at. this would be great on comedy central
I remember this and I was never in the military. My Dad was and HE was the one to teach me how to make my bed, not Mom. He was taught by his Dad who was also in the military. Basically it hasn't changed in over a hundred years. My Dad bragged about being the only sailor in boot camp to get it right the first try. He'd been practicing since he was seven. If I had served I would have been fully prepared to make my bed and get it right first time as well. I still do it that way 55 years after being taught at the age of 7. Of course my Dad never did tell me what the heck I'm supposed to do with the duvet.
And it doesn't stop after boot camp. In nuke power school, they were all over giving an answer with units. If you give an answer as "13", the instructor would yell, "13?! 13 what?! Green donkey dicks?! Where are your units?!?!" It wasn't sufficient to give an answer in pounds, you're supposed to say "lbs-mass" or "lbs-force". I answered one time "120 lbs." and the instructor ran over to my desk with a chalk eraser, pounded it on my desk, kicking up chalk dust and making me cough. Then he yelled, "Pounds!! This is pounds!! It's pounds-mass!!" Military schools are weird.
I was in the Marines from 1988 to 1992. I have a teenage son and still yell “AMAZING!!!” when my son does something right. Boot camp never leaves you, even 30 years later.
They made us rip off sheets, then throw them in the middle of the squad bay. Then they made us throw our mattresses in the middle too. Then we had to remake our racks while being counted down.
"Sir my rack was square when we moved sir." "Oh so someone came in while you were at the range?" IS THAT WHAT YOUR TELLING ME RECRUIT? "Sir yes sir" Poor private was never heard from again. Thanks to a reporter.

Secret of the pros....take your boot straps and connect them under your rack from side to side. Sleep on top of the covers. When u wake up, aside from a little tidying, your rack is tight and made up already. Also buy zip loc storage bags. So when they toss your footlocker all over the deck all your gear is still neatly inside your marked bags. Everyone else is trying to find their crap while you are chillin.
I love that they have to subtitle the video. He's got that drill instructor rasp. Drill instructors absolutely shred their voices. We had DIs who could really only croak, and we didn't have subtitles. Boot camp sucked.
He was about to send the hole rack flying then he would say to take both matresses to the bathroom on top of your head holding them up and making you say THIS RECRUIT IS A DUMBASS ahh good times hahaha
Jonathan Bulkheed the only branch I feel it makes sense to have to know how to do a bed this well is Navy. Because when your locker is under your bed you don’t want your bed coming apart when you open it
Salty Steel I remember when i was watching some of the drills from the Marines. After watching them it made me think about this is how they make a Real man out you. And way she is laughing all most all the time. Damn Where’s Sgt harman when you need em. Bitch reporter be crying
Jonathan Bulkheed it’s not the bed, it’s the overall principle of having discipline. Pretty obvious you lack having it not even being able to understand this concept.
I'm pretty sure it's every main branch except the Air Force. Their beds are made for them. Navy bootcamp had the same standards and had to make your rack in 30 seconds.
Well Idk about army, but in the marines, even if you DO get it right, it’s getting yanked off the bed and thrown somewhere else for you to put back together like you just fucking prestige’d or something and now the game has gotten harder. You can never win... but it’s fun seeing how many times you can prestige everytime you DO get it right. Lol

Whats even more amusing is that rack isn't there for demonstrating, it's some recruits home. I guarantee that recruit got disciplined for this reporter's failure to make that rack. As this was being filmed, said recruit was confident in his rack making skills, then got back to barracks, with Grenados waiting..."RECRUIT! WHAT IN THE FUCK DID YOU DO TO MY RACK?""Sir, it was in proper condition when this recruit left it, SIR!""ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR, RECRUIT?!?! ARE YOU SUGGESTING *I* FAILED TO INSTRUCT YOU ON HOW TO PROPERLY SECURE A RACK?!?!?" I'll bet money Grenados specifically picked this rack as being used by a recruit who's daily quota of discipline has not yet been reached...
stan broniszewski He can't punish the reporter, at least, not in the sadistically pleasing way he punished the recruit. My guess is that recruit remade that rack in a proper, squared away, USMC fashion, then slept on the floor, then mopped the barrack floor to decontaminate it from the recruit's filth. That's USMC boot, Grenados knew full well that rack would look like a disaster after the reporter "squared it away", and he sure as shit wasn't going to make it for the recruit, nor was he going to tolerate a fucked up rack in his barrack. It was a learning experience for both the reporter, and the hopeful Marine, she learned the PG version of how USMC boot works, the recruit learned that he is responsible for the care, and proper treatment of every item of gear the Commendant saw fit to issue him, no matter if he was present or not.
The amount of professionalism, politeness, and honesty the Drill Instructor is displaying is absolute perfection. I know many people have commented over the years in this video about how if the lady was an actual recruit that it would be a living hell. But the way this Marine exudes motivation, I'll wager he hardly ever had to resort to that very often. This is the sort of drill where 'I'm disappointed,' or 'I know you're better than this' would hurt far worse than a string of explicatives. I've seen a few Drill Instructors in the Marines, and a few Drill Sergeants in the Army (had the fortune of serving under some like this in Basic/AIT) like this. They're always motivational.
They say she was smoked so hard in the pit that she hasn't stopped doing mountain climbers for years... She's dug a whole so deep that haven't seen her in months. "Lord of the Sand Flies"

NHTU708 Why are you attacking me for? What I stated was true. The rack shown in the video would have belonged to a recruit due to this being filmed in PI. Recruits don't earn the title of marine till they pass the course.
NHTU708 Well maybe you shouldn't have earned it. There is nothing prouder than being a US Marine. From your comments, it makes people think you may have been dishonourable discharged. If you indeed did serve, you are a shame to the Marine Corps. Perhaps you didn't fit in or didn't like your job, but don't go telling people that you think a criminal gang is better than the Marine Corps.

Having been in a position like his, I know how difficult it can be to flip from Drill to civilian because of the environment you're in. You are in Drill mode all the time. You can't just turn it off like a light switch. For him to show that much restraint because he was talking to a civilian, was impressive. You can tell he was trying as hard as he could not to go off like he wanted, and give her the proper motivation and direction to make that rack correctly and to standard. He was being very patient but wanted so badly to be a Drill.

He is just being pedantic over a bed sheet. Stop licking his ass.
Mom was just like this.
Actually, I'm 38 right now, and 2,000 miled away, and when she visits she hasn't changed a bit.
She lucky she’s a civilian 😂😂
3:18
He wasn't talking about the bed
Bruh😥😂
Aye sir!
LOLL
Lmao
What does he mean actually? Somebody help
Legend Goes, She is Still Trying.
Oscar T ha ha
Rumor has it she didn’t say nothing either.
lmaoo😂😂😂
Aye Sir
They say she was smoked so hard in the pit that she hasn't stopped doing mountain climbers for years... She's dug a whole so deep that haven't seen her in months. "Lord of the Sand Flies"
some DIs would say "Stop Whispering to me" when we were all clearly yelling at the top of our lungs. boot camp was so fun xD
I love the pause before his reluctant "freaking." He was holding back so much...
Surprised I had to scroll down this far for this comment LMAO
My Dad was in the Coast Guard during its only foreign deployment and watching videos like this, and among all that are alike brings me happiness cause he used to bark at me like this except he didnt hold back. You could definitely hear how much the task at hand mattered from the tone of his voice. I will never forget that Man. I just seen him home on 08/10/21
Love you, Dad.
He sounded like a hell of a man. Glad you have memories tho cherish like that 👍
0:50 he said you make me feel bad 😂😂
What a cutie
*While attending Job Corp. the requirements for staying in the dorms are make your bed or bunker military style before leaving the dorm. I was encouraged to keep my room spotless for surprise visits from Dorm Recs or lose my off campus pass coupled with stipend. Even until this day I never leave my home trashed and everything is in organized order free from clutter. **#GoodOleDays** **#GoodTimes* 💞💞
I remember when I graduated my di said,"congratulations, and I wish you luck" to which I thought "this is a trick , this man is the personification of evil in human form, trust him not..." Then I screamed " thank you sir!" He giggled because I was still yelling it like a recruit.
He was indeed a psychopath and enjoyed the trauma he rewarded you with
This is just how I naturally make my bed because my dad was in the Army and this is how he taught me 🤣
Relatable 😂
Looks nicer that way anyway lol, I do it too
Did he ever say "you didn't say nothing?"
Aye, Sir!
That Recruit gonna come back to his rack and be like wtf who the hell???
Not a marine, a recruit.
NHTU708 Why are you attacking me for? What I stated was true. The rack shown in the video would have belonged to a recruit due to this being filmed in PI. Recruits don't earn the title of marine till they pass the course.
It is Marine NOT marine
NHTU708 Well maybe you shouldn't have earned it. There is nothing prouder than being a US Marine. From your comments, it makes people think you may have been dishonourable discharged. If you indeed did serve, you are a shame to the Marine Corps. Perhaps you didn't fit in or didn't like your job, but don't go telling people that you think a criminal gang is better than the Marine Corps.
NHTU708 What a troll.
As a kid, I went to an American Legion Camp, and they taught us to make our beds like this. We were 9 year old kids having each bed and our barracks inspected every morning. Once in a while we had the white glove test. That stays with you. My bed gets made as soon as I get out of it.
I’ve never seen a drill instructor smile and try not to laugh😂😂😂🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
LMAO I KNOW THIS DRILL SERGEANT, IVE SEEN HIM IN ACTION AND OML HE ISNT YELLING .. HE TEACHING WITH A FIRM VOICE
Calm Your Sences teaching with a firm voice??? :/ lol I need to become more of a man .
Correction drill instructor
Senior drill instructor btw and yes I believe alot of people have seen this man he's been at Parris island mcrd for about three years now as a DI plenty of recruits and videos remembering him
Staff sergeant granados I believe maybe I spelt that wrong
He's a drill instructor not a drill sergeant get your fucking shit together
Now imagine if she wasn't a civlian
His smile and optimism; gone
All of this is gone.
I love how hard the DI is trying not to laugh at times 😂
