To be honest.. Marine corps drill instructors were some of the funniest fuckers I’ve ever been around. A couple hours later we were cleaning the barracks before bed and you could faintly hear this poor dude screaming for his life at these damn birds 😂
Honestly Drills, whether DS or DI, are just the funniest motherfuckers lol. I was on fire guard one night at like 3 am during basic, and someone came and complained that the dude in the bunk above him was beating off so hard it was shaking the whole bunk. The drill sergeant happened to come in to do a random check at that moment and asked what this guy was doing out of his bunk, so we explained the situation to him. He asks us to point the dude out and then sneaks up to his bunk, mounts up so that he's at eye level with him and screams "WHO THE FUCK TOLD YOU IT WAS OKAY TO SPANK THE MONKEY ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY!"
I DISAGREE. WHEN I was in boot camp, had 2 dis no one could understand. The order would be (drill) left flank, half of the platoon would go right. because the di s could not speak english
My uncle told me his Drill Sgt. once said to a Pvt.: "I'm here to teach you how to shoot and kill, discipline is something your mom should've gave you" 😂
Army DS's will yell, then wait, because they know that the worst part is the pause during which one has time to contemplate the poor decisions in life that have led them to this point, and to experience the dread of wondering what comes next. Marine DI's just yell without stopping, and layer one on top of another, because they know this kid is just thinking about eating his next box of crayons.

For sure, all the footage filmed is what the Marines want you to see... the parts unfilmed are the truth. Broken limbs, missing teeth, black eyes, split lips, suicide attempts, recruit on recruit animosity/abuse, running naked through showers, standing on line and doing a twirly do dance butt ass naked in front of the entire 60 man platoon for a Navy doc to look at your body for injuries, being told exactly what to say when medical staff ask questions on how injuries were sustained just to cover a Drill Instructors ass for doing crap or not preventing crap he wasn't supposed to do or prevent in the first place, not to mention all the stress fractures, all of this that never makes it to the final cut... but all in all I guess I had fun doing that... or at least that's how I was taught to view it as.
I always swear I’d just laugh because it’s so funny but I fucking know they’d probably make you run on your hands and breath from your ears if you do 😂
I attended Army basic in '71. I attended Marine boot in '86 (I turned 35 at MCRD San Diego.) Army drill sergeants went home after supper and recruits had time to smoke, joke and get their gear together for tomorrow. Marine drill instructors are with you 24/7 and the mind games never stop. I can attest to the fact that Marine boot was tougher than Army basic, but both were tough. Never never never call a drill instructor a drill sergeant! Ask me how I know that.
The harder it is to see the eyes, the scarier they usually are. Same with the Nazi uniforms, where they’d wear the visor caps lower so it covered their eyes better, adding to their already intimidating appearance. Also, a lot of these dudes are buff AF, have fun fighting these guys who probably have time served in a war or at least have a good amount of combat experience. Good luck is all I gotta say.

It’s amazing watching the transformation of a recruit. Served as a Junior/Senior/Chief Drill Instructor in the Marines. It was the most demanding responsibility I encompassed. However, it was also the most fulfilling. It’s a constant competition between DI’s to turn out the best Platoon. You really feed off the motivation of the Privates and more so from the dedication of the other Drill Instructors. Recruits go from being dazed and confused in early training to mean, lean, disciplined fighters by graduation. Great meeting up with so many later in the Fleet and seeing how they’ve come up through the ranks. There is usually a point in training where it all begins to click around rifle qualification time, where recruits see the bigger picture of being a part of something dealing with history and traditions of the Marines who went before you.
It’s one of my life’s greatest honors to have been trained by men like you. Changed my life, made me a man in a world that doesn’t value that as much anymore. Man of honor, courage and commitment. @Ivan Getsukdov “Pizza Box” is Marine slang for the design of the Marksman shooting badge, because it resembles a pizza box. It is the lowest of the rifle (and pistol) qualification levels in the Marines.
@Ivan Getsukdov I’m not familiar with how the Canadian armed forces conduct basic training, but it’s probably similar to that of any other Western nation. Pay attention, apply all that they teach you on how to shoot, don’t get nervous about it, and you should do okay. We had city kids who had never shot a firearm before, and some of them qualified as “Expert” in Boot Camp. Good luck in training!
I have been with Marines, I have been a Soldier in the Army. I was even scouted to be a Drill Sergent, but declined due to my fathers advice. The only difference is the Marines are treated like meat, shit. Grunts, even their higher positions and better jobs get treated badly. In the Army, it is all professional, not a constant stream of degradation. Just my 2 cents
Believe me when I say this. The marines' job isn't to be fancy like all you soldiers with all the high tech gear. It's for completing their job. I have seen a training video of an army recruit missing a target about 50m away from him. He was using an M4 with either an ACOG or Aimpoint RDS I don't remember. My dad told me of shooting targets well in their central mass and head at about 500 yards with iron sights on his M16A2. All our previous servicemen did it the hard way lol
Sgt. McShruvvals Not arguing schemantics here, but it really depends on your unit. Also the Acog I had, used shitty batteries and rarely worked. Iron sights for me, to this day.
Bronson Seiler They constantly told us to never have them on because the batteries would run out. I really questioned the seriousness of my unit getting mad at me over my acog's batteries possibly running out in exchange for it to potentially save my life.
If you honestly think that Marines are treated like a piece of "meat, shit, Grunts" than you honestly have no idea what you are talking about. you have watched to many youtube videos. Drill Instructors treat recruits the way they do to give them simplest example of what it is like to be in war. Maybe we are not in a time of war any more. But don't you think that it would be very important to know how to handle your self under an enormous amount of stress? As opposed to just being given a rifle and told to receive fire and kill the man that is shooting at you. We all join different branches of the united states military for different reasons, and I am not trying to make this a war between Army, Navy, Air force, and the Marine Corps. But what you see in these videos is just a few minutes in the life of what we go threw in boot camp. I will end this comment with this. When you go to war, and you are stripped of everything, and are treated like a piece of shit, you wont be as use to it as the Marines that you are with over seas.
In ‘69 I came within 1 line of being drafted into the Marines. In Army Basic the cadre were all Airborne Rangers with multiple Nam tours. 1 per platoon and 1 troop pusher (also AR and Nam vet) waiting for discharge. My MSG was senior, had 3 Silver Stars (senior man left-should have been unit award, psychotic break, earned it). My pusher also had a Silver Star earned in a psychotic break. They didn’t have to yell. When they spoke we listened. “If you get sent to a unit where you need to know how to march, they’ll teach you. Not all of you will draw combat MOS, but that doesn’t mean you won’t go to Nam and get into deep s**t. We’ll try to give you tips that will improve your chances of survival…some aren’t taught in Advanced Infantry Training unless you get lucky.” Over the years since then I have read articles indicating that the primary/duty MOS of many Marine DI’s aren’t combat arms, probably because they need more than 1 per platoon I guess.

They don’t seem like nightmares, they just seem like goons. It’s amazing anyone actually learns a single thing with that kind of absurdly toxic behavior. It’s no wonder SWAT crushes every branch in drills and games-they actually treat each other with respect and train like human beings. And I’m not even talking about veterans who go SWAT either.
@@minhle2315 Studies show that this doesn't work well at all. Like the other dude said, treating eachother with respect yields better trained, disciplined and motivated soldiers. When you are a body builder, you're body are shredded, when you are marine corps drill instructor, your vocal cord can absolutely destroy any existence in this planet.
I've seen both Army DS's and Marine DI's in action, first hand, and this presentation captures the different approaches admirably and accurately. The Army, which is necessarily more democratic and egalitarian, and must have less demanding entry standards in order to allow for a broader recruit base and to meet its high numerical requirements, does "build men". It coaches the recruits into the soldiers they must become. The Marine Corps, which is required, by law, to maintain four divisions, is naturally much smaller, can be more restrictive of its selection pool, and is more demanding. Faced with the stories he has heard, the volunteer has basically resolved that he IS a Marine, before he signs in. Boot camp is to force him to find his inner Marine, to push him and challenge him and provoke him to prove himself, to himself. If he washes out, he didn't believe he was a Marine. Basic Training makes the recruit chisel away the junk that impedes his Marinehood, and shows him the way the Corps functions, so he may do his chosen duty and accomplish his mission. It sets a high goal of resourcefulness, proficiency, personal pride, drill and appearance standards, which he attains because he knows they are his, and he wants them. Drill Instructors don't make Marines. They challenge the fledglings to TAKE their legacy, as Marines. Both Services are good, and their trainers are excellent. But their methods are different, because their premise and approach must be different. They both fight for America, but while the Soldier has his unit to be proud of, the Marine has to sustain the reputation of the entire Corps. It's a heady concept, but very real. That may explain the difference in training, for those who wondered. God bless Liberty, and all who defend it.
However, its the Army that wins a war, fellahs. The Marine Corp has always felt it was under pressure to justify its existance, remember there have many attempts to disband it, ignorant attempts IMHO, because a navy, and navy, DOES need a land operating force, to secure the coast, etc., and in the US, it goes beyond that, in WW2 it was a shocktroop landing force on small islands. But because Marine brass has always felt a need to justify itself, they have overinfalted their importance with friendly reporters and bogus PR. Take a look at WW1, Belleau Wood. It was two Army divisions that chewed up the Germans, but one the 1 brigade of Marines got the press because Marine brass finagled the bogus story by reporters, Floyd Gibbons most notably, and played it up, embellishment, not journalism. The "devil dogs"(teufelhunde) was bullshit invented by an American correspondent and was never used by the Germans. Marines have gotten way more than their fair share of war reporting, some of it clearly propaganda, but in the end, its the Army that has won every one of America's wars.
Because if you say "Needs", that means to the DI's that you absolutely NEED it,and if your rib ain't broken, they'll send you back in line. If it's something that you want, like maybe going to BAS, you say request. If you NEED something, they'll know, but you should always say request because they want to break you down.
Dave Thomas When your a kid your parents yell at you and you cry. This is to make you mentally strong. They use it to break you apart during basic training and later rebuild your confidence.

Bootcamp was full of funny stuff we weren't allowed to laugh it,
Hahahahaha wtf!

Our drill instructors in the Marine Corps told us our mothers should have swallowed us

Yeah, that sounds about right.
I've got nothing but respect and admiration for the instructors I had during BMT. Those men made me into a man that had the strength, knowledge, and tenacity to survive war and life. Anyone who says that says that until they are face to face with a DI or DS, and the 5 other ones with him begging him to do it. Then reality sets in.
The harder it is to see the eyes, the scarier they usually are. Same with the Nazi uniforms, where they’d wear the visor caps lower so it covered their eyes better, adding to their already intimidating appearance. @@Knightwolf1994 Attention.. HEY MAGGET!!!!
Thank you Drill Instructor! It wouldn’t be the same without you. I hope I see my Drill Instructors in the fleet some day.
It’s one of my life’s greatest honors to have been trained by men like you. Changed my life, made me a man in a world that doesn’t value that as much anymore. Man of honor, courage and commitment. @Ivan Getsukdov I’m not familiar with how the Canadian armed forces conduct basic training, but it’s probably similar to that of any other Western nation. Pay attention, apply all that they teach you on how to shoot, don’t get nervous about it, and you should do okay.
ProtoMario an ACOG with batteries huh? pretty fancy.
Bronson Seiler
They constantly told us to never have them on because the batteries would run out.

We’ll try to give you tips that will improve your chances of survival…some aren’t taught in Advanced Infantry Training unless you get lucky.”
Over the years since then I have read articles indicating that the primary/duty MOS of many Marine DI’s aren’t combat arms, probably because they need more than 1 per platoon I guess.

Fast forward to 2020 me and him ended up having a beer together (I most definitely told him he was a dick) long story short I discharged out (honorably) dd-214 w/ dd-256 obviously lol I will forever say that I damn sure dont miss parris island but I damn sure miss what I've learned from it. Always faithful, always forward. Semper fidelis.
When I was MCRD PISC (platoon 1033 B Co. 1st RTB), one of my squad leaders yelled "Right face! Aye, aye, sir!" in the wee hours of the morning. Scared the crap out of me 'cause it sounded like SDI SSgt Wheeler.
How many did rifle manual in their sleep. Had one hold his arms up like he was holding a rifle in port arms.
2nd Bn Echo myself! 2068 way back in 1996 though, Ooh Rah!
Hell yeah, another member of Echo Co!

@@jasonfrost5025 the whole point of marine boot camp is to break you down, then to build you back up so you don’t break under pressure
@@minhle2315 Studies show that this doesn't work well at all. Like the other dude said, treating eachother with respect yields better trained, disciplined and motivated soldiers. Most other NATO countries has stopped the "break down, build up", because, to no one's surprise, it's bullshit way to create warriors.
When you are a body builder, you're body are shredded, when you are marine corps drill instructor, your vocal cord can absolutely destroy any existence in this planet.
4:40 For some reason the self generated subtitles say there's music and applause in this scene lol
Yes, it is music to my ears.
Yeah I just checked 😂😂😂
A new core sub genre of Metal. It's called Marine Core.
I don’t understand the confusion
Theres soooooo much music and applause in basic training
4:48 Aye Sir.exe has stopped working
😭😭😭RIP
lol xD
😂😂😂 i cant breathe
I'd get my ass kicked so many times if I enlisted. I tend to laugh while being yelled at XD
+Chibi xXxScrublordsxXx I know right
I've seen both Army DS's and Marine DI's in action, first hand, and this presentation captures the different approaches admirably and accurately.
+Mikey mystery thats a good write up bud
Thanks very much. I appreciate you reading it.
+Mikey mystery HOOAH
Thanks, Bosley. "The beat's 180, not the direction, 'cause we ain't got time to lose."
2:50 “Yes drill Sergeant, /I/ wanna handle it”
Marine Corps drill instructors would been VERY quick to remove than “I” from that sentence.
6:26 "You're going to tell me what you frickn' need, ok? I'M HERE FOR YOUR GODDAMN NEEDS, RIGHT!?! RIGHT!?!"
DI's will yell "needs" if you say needs instead of request.
MetalSkeleton56 really? I didn't know that. why?
Because if you say "Needs", that means to the DI's that you absolutely NEED it,and if your rib ain't broken, they'll send you back in line. If it's something that you want, like maybe going to BAS, you say request. If you NEED something, they'll know, but you should always say request because they want to break you down.
MetalSkeleton56 good ol' intro economics: the difference between wants and needs
Yep.
LOOOOOOOOOOUD NOISEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'RE YELLING ABOOOOOOOOOOOOOUT!!!!!
Eli Scarbro Dude, he was quoting a movie. You ruined it. LOL
Well Shit get's me everytime..
whitedevil2 I agree...this not Training.....this is BS
Dave Thomas When your a kid your parents yell at you and you cry. This is to make you mentally strong. They use it to break you apart during basic training and later rebuild your confidence.
kevin lehman Yelling does not make you mentally strong. What the enemy is going to yell the daylights outa you?? so you got be prepared. ??
0:12 “You don’t wear headgear inside !!!”
Literally has a bigger hat on than anyone there. 😂
They are allowed to wear that campaign hats indoors
Yah, I figured. Just pointing out the irony of it all 😁
@@MrChase115 my drill sergeants did a lot of hypocritical shit
