  • A group of UFC fighters comprised of Gabriel Gonzaga, Forrest Griffin, Dana White, Brian Stann, and Rashad Evans among others, visited the Marine Corps martial arts center to face off with members of the Marine Corps. The group of UFC fighters was quickly overwhelmed by the fitter, stronger and in many ways more skilled members of the Marine Corps were able to overwhelm them with a fair amount of ease.

I remember having a former Marine as a Personal Trainer. He kind of went easy on the first lesson. I told him: “Is that all you got? If this is how you’re gonna train me, I can go somewhere else.” He had this big grin on his face. I regretted every last one of those words. I couldn’t even speak after the next training session!
My point: Marines are no joke!

Not sure what you mean here.
      They both train to win.
And men have died in the cage.
And some athletes kill. And in
      fact, there have been special
      operators that have tried
MMA, to varying degrees of success.
None has ever become a Champion
as of yet though. So, no don't really
understand what your point is here.

    • @rascal0175

@@zutrue It’s simple rather than complicated. Athletes train to compete and win. It could be track, field hockey, junior girls gymnastics or olympic ping-pong. Athletes strive to be their best as a competitor. They train to win. Not all are successful. These people do not compete to the death. They do not participate in death matches. Yes, occasionally there is an accidental death in a mishap. Boxing might be an example; horseback competition and football are also dangerous.
Military members may engage in war. No matter how the military markets its craft they are there to kill the enemy during wartime. This is especially true of combat arms in general and very applicable to special operations personnel. They exist to kill the enemy and win wars. There is no second thought to this, no serious pangs of conscience. The competition they enter into is to the death. It is the greatest competition of all. The enemy is trying just as hard to kill them. In a very personal way it is combatant on combatant. They win by killing their opponent. The prize for winning is your own life.
Both categories compete yet the competition is quite different. With cages and MMA there can be brutal and violent combat. I suspect all who enter the cage compete to win and few go in with the intent to kill or murder their opponent.
I’ve never been in the cage but I have seen lots of war. War is competing for every chip you own and every chip you may ever own. Athletes may compete for fame, glory and recognition. These are fleeting things. Losing in war is for all your forever.
My comment is just to point out a simple difference. Veterans will get the drift of my remarks. Others not so much.

I was lucky enough to be training along side Marines when I was in the Army in the field artillery. Having Army and Marines in the same space led to a lot of friendly rivalry, which pushed each of us harder and we were both better off for it. At times, the competition got fierce. We developed a lot of respect for each other, so hats off to my Marine brothers in arms.

Out in the open I have to move around too much, tackle one, get up, punch the other, tackle him, get up, yadda yadda. Im not saying military isnt tough, they are killers, they are trained with guns.
Hand to hand combat isnt their specialty. Badasses exist everywhere, so yes some military dudes are bad ass physically too. In my experience though? Not really. Without their guns they are just buff meatheads who take tren and roids.

to settle everyone's butthurtedness, I have predictions that I think we can agree on. first of all, this video wasn't made to depict the marines as superior fighters, but rather to give credit to what they do. second, the training styles are very different and in a combat situation a UFC fighter would lack the skills to keep themselves alive. third, remove the weapons and 2 v 1 and put them in the octagon, the UFC fighter would most likely win a grapple to subdue, but a marine, just because of the difference in training, may very well be able to get himself into a position considered useless in UFC but a good position to kill in combat and kill the fighter. one is not superior to the other. That's like saying a coder is better with computers than an animator. this video is just making each group respect each other even more.

If there was no rules the Marine or soldier could still win. My attitude is bite something off. Anything. If some cunt takes me down and starts grappling I'm immediately looking to bite a bit of earlobe off or a bottom lip or eyelid or something. You can't punch in real life. I did MMA for years and the amount of guys who would break fingers, knuckles or wrists etc fighting in a bar at the weekend was all the evidence you need.

    • @blaikong

Stephen Murray Wrong. Biting will not help you against an MMA fighter. That is a very low percentage technique. Dirty techniques have been proven to be very ineffective when you're positionally dominated which is a very important tactic in MMA today.

I served 21-years in the Marine Corps, and several battlefields in that time. While there was no 'MMA' during most of that time, there were 'hardened, experienced fighters' from various cities who came into the Marines...and without fail, they found out that what they thought they knew about 'real fighting' was simply 'friendly disagreements' that didn't work well in 'real fighting environments' (where one walks away, and the other doesn't, ever). Our training back 'in-the-day' was relatively simple. They instruct you in USMC fighting, always teaching the first fact: you stay alive by keeping the fight as short and lethal as possible. This isn't a 'you slept with my sister' fight, this is a 'this will be the last day of your life' fight...and the only rule is to live to walk away. With most old-Marines you'll ever meet, you'll notice this in them...almost a sheer-avoidance to fighting. The reason has NOTHING to do with fear...from the moment an altercation starts, he is assessing three things: IS IT WORTH IT? WHAT IS MY BEST LETHAL SHOT ON MY OPPONENT? WHAT IS MY EGRESS AFTERWARDS? (what am I looking at, including leaving the area, after the fight). If you push me to fight, even now (and I'm in my 60's), know one thing...If you make me fight, I'm going to cut you, break bones, totally disable you (most likely for the rest of your life) if you push me to fight...it is NOT checkers, it is fighting...period.

I'm not proud of this, but it happened. My stepfather, a 26yr Marine, retired at E-9, 6'3" and about 225 at the time had moved up here to live with my mother. I was 20, 5'11" and 165lbs. I was young and stupid and thought fighting people was cool. On 3 different occasions the first year he was here arguments came to blows. All 3 times I ko'd him. Granted my late father was a Navy boxing Champ and had countless wrestling awards and achievements, and trained me until he passed away when I was 14. But Marines are tough, I was just quick, was 20yrs younger, an asshole, and hit hard. Now, my stepfather and I are basically best friends. But I still regret hitting him all those years ago even though he was swinging too. Alcohol makes you do some dumb shit, which is why I don't drink anymore.

My oldest brother was a Marine Corps sniper instructor at Quantico for his entire tour in the Marines, they spotted my World War 2 Dad's marksmanship training he started all his kids on at age 6. They took him straight from his Marine Corps basic training to Quantico. Any of the instructors or sniper trainees who were there from 67 to 73 will remember "Sgt Butch."
Dad also trained us in martial arts (he 2as an instructor in an Okinawan hard style of karate), starting us from age 6, as well as giving us farm chores before and after school FROM AGE 6. We had a farm, and my dad worked as an engineer for the federal government and in his later years retired out of Washington DC. My brother is still alive and "kicking," having obtained black belts in several types of martial arts over the years. He's currently, even at his age, an on-call sniper for his big city police department.
This was a cool video for me to watch, going down a similar path as my brother but in the Air Force. I was Security Forces, and a martial arts instructor, and always in the top 1% to 3% in marksmanship in the pit and on the range with several different weapons.
I dabbled a little in martial arts, like my brother, during and beyond my direct military years, including studying mixed martial arts. One of my early-on karate instructors was Billy Blanks, then in the military, it was fellow Security Policeman Craig Godbee (a 2nd degree black belt under Chuck Norris), then the 5 Lee brothers in North Carolina in TKD. One of my instructors in that system was South Korean Olympic Gold Medalist welterweight, Master Bong Keon Park.
There were several others who are well known but I'll leave it just about like this, mentioning only a few.
At the end, a federal law enforcement officer in Texas who was a 4th degree black belt under Chuck Norris was my final instructor.
One of my mixed martial arts instructors was Marco Ruas' student, and my TKD, Hapkido and Judo instructor was the "Korean American TKD Olympics" heavyweight gold medalist, Master Richard Kang. He would not spar me because he said I was "a devil." Which, broke my heart because I am also a Christian missionary. He explained later, to Koreans, devil doesn't mean the same thing as to Americans. He paid special attention to helping me develop and perfect my military self defense and offense art to train military, police, and government employees. I had an interesting middle age.
*To have the opportunity to go on the trip the MMA brothers went on to Quantico, I would have paid as much as $1,000 for that training.* That was an experience of a lifetime for these gentlemen, I hope they took away what they were supposed to! What an opportunity!

This video here is a good exemple of pitting categories 1 and 3 against one another.

Recently after all those years they starting fighting using maces clubs handmade weapons because in that area there is a treaty- no guns are allowed anywhere in the area...
It would be a war crime to bring guns...
But still maces and clubs...that sounds more brutal...I'm not sure of the death count but that sounds like the start of a battle.

Ju Jitsu easily can kill people, a choke hold is 100% lethal. Even muay Thai could kill someone if you combine it with some basic grappling.

Lmao they’re both hand to hand combat without weapons the mma fighters are beating these dudes asses. It’s designed to implement melee weapons to kill people whereas mma you do it with your own appendages. Without a ref in the octagon to stop the action see how it goes when someone gets choked out or bludgeoned while unconscious.
