Cool, a 360 at the Harbor! Just like Kevin Reid back in the 70's. You know, back when they built that harbor in the 60's, and winter swells came and built up the sandbar, the Army Corp of Engineers didn't have a clue what to do, how to get rid of the sand, but the surfers knew exactly what to do about it! Now it gets dredged right away, so it never goes all the way across anymore, but once upon a time it did so and for months.
Stoked to see one of my childhood friends who I grew up with. Julian Sekon.Hey Julian if you ever read this its Boney iam in NY wright now whats up Dog Bro's for life🤙🍻 So stoke to see you still ripping.
good surfers there, kinda looks like that spot in Santa barbara. But it would be so easy to wind up paralyzed surfing that wave, one little mistake, misjudgment, ouch!!
And the surf scene was still fairly mellow in those days as Santa Cruz was a back water. Surf mags were bi monthly then. But don't feel too bad because when I moved to Santa Cruz in '75 you could buy a house by the Harbor for $30 grand. Modest houses on the Westside even cheaper. I missed out on that. The prices started taking off around that time and it hasn't stopped since. Mind you Silicon Valley didn't really take off until '84 with. Apple, the Internet etc. Things have been going nuts in the Bay ever since. I did OK in the "dot com boom" late 90's and sold a website for a pile. I started investigating New Zealand and saw history repeating itself. In 2002 I bought a modest 3 bedroom beach house in Taranaki for $25K US. Paid cash. Walking distance from a great beach. Many excellent surf breaks nearby although now I'm an old man of 67 now. Surfing is getting tough. But I'm now a dual US-Kiwi citizen and have been living in my NZ house since 2005. Just lucky I guess. Keep your eyes open. There are always opportunities just sometimes hard to spot. Good luck!.
@@amaturearcadia Now I live in Taranaki, New Zealand . Saw the same thing got down. When I moved to Santa Cruz in '75 right before the "Monster from New Zealand". You could buy a house by the harbor for 30 grand. Its a big world . Lots of surf out there. Keep your eyseopen brahs. Surfers are taking over the Earth.
It's called Punk Rock! My Video, My choice of music.... listen to something else if you don't like it... I made this for me and anyone else that enjoys Punk Rock and getting amped! The music today sucks and I've been doing this for 3 decades.... I know what works for me!
REFRESHING!!! Punk Rock a Santa Cruz surf Flick trademark, thanks!!! lately we had been listening electronic gay ass music in surfing videos. Pura Fucking Vida!!!!
We probably have to thank Black Sabbath ,And super early punk rock for the song played here. U can complain all day about this song but shit, playing instruments that fast isn't easy,If u never smoked meth ,this song is how ur brain feels when u blow out the first hit. The surfing was hard charging all the way. Taking off in front of that jetty is a combo of brave and stupid, but the reward looks thrilling. Watch the video again and look at how thick the lips are on these waves.
I look forward to the day when music used to back high level surfing video is as sophisticated and complex as the sport, the ocean and the natural world.
Surfing on this level is an elegant and sophisticated sport. The music behind this is about as simplistic as it gets....0 continuity!! How about music that is clearly as complex, soulful and natural as the ocean and these athletes? This type of music ( if you must call it that ) is a disservice to the sport of surfing.
give it a second try, and you'll see this music is not simplistic at all. In my opnion, surfing on this level is pure adrenaline, just like the music of Dr. know.
Well check this out dip shit, Surfing to you may be a sport, but to us Santacruzians men and women alike it's not a sport, it's a way of life, something you will never understand, or be blessed to experience 😯👊👊👊👊🌴🏄
I'm a musician, and like everything from Verdi to early Genesis to Bluegrass Gospel. I think this music is great. It really captures the intensity of surfing a very intimidating wave, bottoming out and barreling with foot+ thick lip just a few yards from the deadly "jacks" of Santa Cruz Harbor jetty. Sometimes you have to get yourself psyched up to near-psychotic levels to take on waves like that. Also, the lyrics are holy, it's a sermon from a priest or minister almost vertabim.
Can't really call that music but whatever was entering my ears while watching this gave me the same feeling as having a root canal.
