I literally cried after watching. After 30 years of surfing I was diagnosed 4 years ago with myotonic muscular dystrophy. In my mid-30s I was most comfortable in Big Surf.I now have the money to travel to the places I want to go to, but now I just get to watch. I've had big sessions at killers and sunset. So I'll take what I've been given.

Oh man, that's a tough one. I knew a girl with myotonic dystrophy, and she died at 13 just a few months ago. As I'm sure you've heard, there seems to be a cure in the works, I hope you get a chance to take advantage of it!
@@gasblowindev1537 Except at 1:50, 2:20 and 2:38 you see the surfers get to their feet having paddled in... Some big waves need a tow-in, but most of these appear not to be. As for the original post: I don't understand why these video makers don't show the real speed and then a slo-mo and why they have to drown it all out in heavy metal or the classical mash-up playing here.
@@championthewonderhorse9733 Hey it's better than shitty trap music or some shit. At least this classical mashup enhances the feeling of "you're gonna fucking die" that you get from gigantic slabs. But I agree raw footage would be good too.
That 2nd wave ridden by Shaun Lopez (?) is a BEHEMOTH. And both Danilo Cuoto and Luke Shepherdson get INSANE tube rides, but Danilo actually makes his... barely. Luke finally had to ride the foam ball. This clip is MEZMERIZING, thanks for posting!
Paddling and towing are different sports, you need to show them letting go of the rope so everyone can see. In this video, all the surfers that you didn't see paddle in towed except Luke.
As far as I know... That place usually can't produce that pedigree of wave EVER! It's like JAWS and TEAHUPO'O having a baby with all of the danger that both places bring into one. That's heavy as well as pushing hard over shallow reef.
Really?? For me it seems way easier wave than Teahupoo, and not as dangerous... Idk about Jaws tho. Also I think it cannot be shallow with that amount of water moving and being that big, it shouldn't break over shallow reef but there should be at least a few meters of water between surface and bottom. I've surfed a total of about 20 months more or less in Indonesia, in 8-9 trips there.... That's what I learned there. I've always surfed the biggest swells there, triple overhead( 2,3,5 guys out maximum) Of course with big size, depending on the Wipeout or getting caught inside, it can send you to the bottom, but definitely when it's big is not shallow, it breaks so far from the shore...
@@perikopalotespalotones2729 Triple overhead in Indo? Where? This video is triple overhead and after surfing Indo on and off for the last 5 years this year was the only year it hit triple overhead and the closest to this year was about 3/4 years ago. (Century swell) I was in Indo for both. I must be going to the wrong places.
@@littlellama8405 yes you definitely are going to the wrong places mate. I've been surfing Indo since 2009 and not only it gets triple but 4 overhead almost each year at least once. Well Kelly Slater appeared by surprise specifically to score Padang and Sanur, so yeah it was such an epic swell if that guy bothered to travel half world, something good he was sure was gonna happen :) and it did. When it is this big, there is not much you can do because of the speed. You can try to penetrate the water, but because if the speed, you just skid along the surface, then get sucked up, and then you are along for the ride.

Don't think I've ever seen a better barrel, anywhere. 15 foot plus, clean, and he's slotted deep. For a long time.
Delighted to see these guys paddling in, something special about paddling into Giants!
Everyone in this vid who paddled got eaten alive. What is the point?
Amazing. I been in 8- 12 foot surf and it was humbling.
Still one of the top sessions ever!
If this isn't the best wave in the world...show me what is..! I can only imagine.Nuff respect!
Tip for anyone about to watch: change to double playback speed and hit MUTE
Good point, thx for da tip. Makes it that much more scary also....
right, and that music blows
1.75 seems a little better
Shepardson and McNamara got the deepest but paid the price. Shepardson's ride was INSANE
Takes a lot of courage and skill to ride these waves
The best big wave to watch. It goes on and on and the barrel seems to grow the longer you charge. Incredible
Epic! Garrets a MONSTER.
this is the best
can you please be my friend and come to north Stradbroke island
Best surfing video I ever saw
I wouldn't know whether it's the biggest but it's pretty bloody big! Respect for anyone who was out there
filming in those swells looks like it would be so fun
Wow the waves are giant indeed. Great video.
Biggest most perfect waves on that day. Looked like some 30-40 foot faces!!
That is some of the best surfing I have ever seen!!!
Bula vinaka this fiji ,not only surfing but best friendly people in the world ni sa bula vinaka ,god bless fiji..
better than Teahupoo that day... AMAZING
Unbelievable, paddling into that big a wave. Only at Cloudbreak and the barrels that can fit a Mac truck.
Everyone who paddled in paid the price, at least in this vid...
I like seeing Garrett wipe out trying to snake in on the paddle session on his jet board 😂
and ramon navarro wave????
Teahupoo, Cloudbreak, that Irish wave and shipsterns the best waves on RUclips
*Actually, the answer is yes. It's the biggest😏*
Bella and Amy A glorious day. I prefer Teahupoo but this is an epic day for sure
, Teahupoo has a thicker lip but this swell was in my opinion a longer & more makeable wave
no the 2012 is the biggest day
For such a big wave it holds the most amazing shape over a very shallow reef i believe balls of steel.....
Insane footage
Bowling balls for sure to charge that stuff! Well done!
Watch with no sound. Your welcome : )
The music is what makes it more epic....
Great to see GMAC out there.
Garret is parking it; as some surfers say. It would have been better if the dudes were not screaming the whole time. good stuff.
Cmon, what's wrong wi a holler?! I whistle n shout t myself soon as it's overhead, it's not 'all' glorious sky cathedrals
Are there videos on youtube that are on board one of these surfers?? That's something I'd like to see Red Bull!!
Cody like GoPro footage?
yeah
Awesome I loved it
Actually that moment when u know whatever u will be comment it will be not enough
Haha, you can try again anytime! 😜
Absolutely incredible
by far, biggest most hollow wave i've ever seen....looks like being inside a gym...pure insanity
Poor fella at 0:53, it was raining out so he had no choice except to hide out in that massive barrel.
Somehow the paddle in bombs r more impressive but kudos, u guys scored a magical day!
That's definetely the biggest I've ever seen it, those chargers were taking off on liquid mountains! The footage is insane.🤘🍻
Absolutely INSANE!
Stop it! Just Stop it! Paddle out , man up. Enough said. Awesome
...Ooooo weee.....dat's some heavy surf!!!
Cloudbreak anxiety sessions
That shit is gnarly in so many ways…thx
This video's incredible amazing video I am stuck
The way the wave at 3:00 grows from merely "huge" into a sky-eating monster.
Crazy, sucks he ate it on the foam ball at the end that was a wave of a lifetime.
