Out Front: Santa Cruz

- Santa Cruz County has some of the most consistent, diverse and varied surf in the country, if not the world. Right pointbreaks, slabby reefs, wedgy beachbreak, slow peelers - plus a wide-open exposure to pretty much any swell the Pacific can produce and enough varied geography and kelp to ensure that somewhere’s always glassy. On any given day of the year, somewhere in its 30-mile stretch of coastline has a rideable wave. One some days, there are a dozen spots going off at the same exact time. The above edit, created by NorCal filmers Perry Gershkow and Kyle Buthman - and featuring locals like Noah Wegrich, Nat Young, Flea Virotsko and more - offers an insider’s look at Surf City North.

Nice edit…but…no logger love…SC is so much more than high perf short boards.
Shhh don't tell anyone that you can ride a log into old old age LOL
Facts
I’m forever bitter because I can’t afford to live in a surf town like San Clemente or Santa Cruz or anywhere nearby even. There is so much privilege in the lineup people never talk about
Or you give up on things to make it happen....get roommates, live in a shack....compromise can make it happen. Life is all about choice. That being said it is super freaking expensive there, no doubt.
that's so true! even to live by a beach with waves is so lucky!
@@bman541 correct! and after 10 years you MAYBE get a set wave on a happening swell. emphasis on THE MAYBE
I agree there is absolutely a level a privilege. Its not impossible tho. I grew up somewhat inland in san marcos parents were never beach people lived about 25 mins from the coast, recently through my own hard work made it oceanside 5 mins from the beach. You can do it. The level of privilege I see and that bothers me is kids who grew up next to beach and had there parents non stop film them, coach them, buy them ebikes, boards, trips, etc. I have no remorse for them in the line up, my hard earned progression goes before them.
Nobody’s problem but your own. I live in the back of my truck so I can stay in California and surf. Surfing the great equalizer-there’s actually no privilege out there. Even if you can afford to live nearby that doesn’t automatically mean you’re getting good waves
Great to see the up to date. The 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's had a heaviness to the culture that would be impossible to explain. It was not a place where one fucked around. Unless you were a seriously crazy local. Then you fucked around a lot!
Yep. SC has gotten too soft honestly...
nice to see nat young representing santa cruz on the ct
Santa Cruz is as far north I’ve ever surfed. Had a 4/3 with no booties or hoodie on a clear day. Lasted 30 min before I tucked tale and ran back to my warm coffee. You can’t own me because I just owned myself.
Suit probably has holes a new 4/3 would be totally fine
@@rumi2059 lol no. there arent any holes
@@zareh805 😂oof
@@rumi2059 i would say booties and or a hood are necessary in the winter for lasting long enough
Booties, hood.... Most don't use gloves there, but I do.
Anybody know where to find this song ? Can’t find it on Spotify or RUclips 🤔
Same I'm pissed
I search immediately as well
And I thought
Hey siri no luck
But then at the end the credit
“Whatever it is you like” by Bliss
Oh no brainer easy to find
I even listened to this instrument by a band bliss on Spotify hoping to see if this would be the same band
Inconclusive
@@michaelbustamante8572 yea ive looked everywhere with no luck
Why is there no episode on Los Angeles? It says there is one at the end of this episode.
Never paddled out there when I lived in Monterey. The left reef break at Asilomar was fire though!!!!!
I will pay anyone who can actually find a link to this song, I stg it's impossible to find
I looked too!!! No luck.
Agree! I think they incorrectly tagged it or this band is blowing it by not putting themselves on Spotify or RUclips. Shazam can't find it either.
Nice , you make me proud to know you... keep it up .. waxft
Oh sweet!! I live here!💛🙏

Last time I surfed steamers lane... 1989. I miss living in Santa Cruz in the 80's. Wouldn't live in that communist state now.
