This search series has been some of the best surfing content I've ever seen. This is all you guys should focus on making, 1 episode a week. It will start to blow up more. Everything about it feels right
Perfection and 3x time world champion having a blast... ALL ALONE... Good to see that Heaven is still a place on earth 👍😊 Keep it up Rip Curl... That's the real dream 👏👏👏
holy wow. what a man. humble, incredible athlete... his connection with the ocean is transcendent. great wsl finale Eugene. you rock. can't wait to see what the next chapter holds ;)
Reminds me so much of Endless Summer, when they find that little beach, with the perfect curls, all day, every day. (Super sad if you watch the follow-up doc they did a decade ago, or so--and you see how built out and industrialized that once empty, pristine beach has become.)
This video of mick fanning reminds me so much of surfing 6-8 foot hollow reef barrels to my self for 4 hours one morning and I figured out after about half an hour that 2 waves of every like 6 wave set that would come through about every five minutes where barreling soo intensely hollow for 70 meters and totally makeable!!! Just picking out the ones that look like there fully packed to unleash with utter smoothness.
I thought the same thing mick is apparently getting early morning sessions where yo can clearly see the sun rising on the ocean, so that leaves mexico out of the picture, do yo think it could possibly be somewhere in west africa? Or its all cold water there?
79pejeperro the first clip is dark, mick has a fresh layer of sunscreen and as the clips become lighter from the sun the wind increases.. I could very well be wrong and the editor could have done this on purpose
would be willing to bet that this wave is in the carribean. Saw some pics of Dylan Graves and the gudaskas brothers surfing a place just like this one. Was in the carribean.
because so many people trying to point out where that might be: well, you guys have to analyze a little bit better the video footage and think a little bit clearer. than you might discover that most claims are not possible. only one person might have a chance to gotten it right so far in my opinion. for example: how many beach breaks do we know in the mentawais or maldives? exactly...0. and there will be none because it is almost entirely reef. so that is just a useless claim of space. my hint for the interested searcher. look where the sun stands at the different times of day and you might get an idea at least at which coastlines to look. extract daytime through wind, sun through the shadows and light on the wave faces. otherwise you might just be barking up the wrong tree. happy searching! and yes, i hope as well they can keep it secret as long as possible.
This wave its obviously no where near Indonesia. But you are wrong about there being no beach breaks in the Mentawais, there is quite a few two of the more well known ones are in the bay at Green Bush and in the Bay at Lances left, that said they rarely get good and are mostly surfed for the novelty factor or to get away from crowds, however there is a few beach breaks that can get alright under rare low period west swells.
hey indo bule give you that. and i reckon that you know much more about indo than i do because sadly enough have i still not seen indo. but want to point out that indo is all about reef. no one goes normally there to explicitly surf a beach. most important: have fun and dont destroy what you came to enjoy. stuck at work but it is flat anyway today.16.2.2017 greetings from spain
What about the spot in Africa from The Endless Summer? Perfect waist to chest high right that broke next to a desert. This could be there just on a bigger day?
I checked out some video of West Africa north of the equator and people were in boardshorts surfing right points. But yeah, east coast is as likely. And Madagascar sure has a lot of sand on its southern tip. I bet there's an airport nearby that would enable a quick strike when everything lines up. Can't see MF hanging out for weeks. Just nice to know this wave is out there.
Yep, I've surfed in Mozambique and I also thought it had that feel. I'd say it's likely to be east coast Africa. Mostly lefts on the west coast, but who knows. If it was a north swell it could be W Africa too. Great vid!
It's a break called pirights in Somalia. No point in keeping it a secret because you'd have to have a hired personal Navy just to get you there much like Rip Curl did.
Africa hahaha, Mick is from the Gold Coast that is where this is filmed, Rip Curl paid the Gold Coast City Council to " lease " Kirra point for the day, secret is out!
er, wrong. actually on a second look I agree wholeheartedly. It ain't barra. This points on the Atlantic side...way way North. That's all I'm saying. And it will NEVER be crowded.
When Micks says some guy was taking a dump on the beach i figured lanka... When i 1st went there late 80"s (never had anything this good), beautiful beaches, some beach breaks, and each beach had a section for the locals to dump.
Probably in the same area though. I've heard some rumblings in the surf community that people have been surfing it for years but it's just a pain in the ass to get there. Plus very dangerous and turbulent/poor area.
Water temps in the the bite is like 15-16 degrees maximum - it looks like Yallingup - but it's also cold water so not sure cause no wetties - I wanna go that's all I know.
this is SOMALIA, no more controversy, north Somalia. there are right-breaking waves like this from Mozambique northwards... We work in Benguerra Island and Bazaruto Archipelago and there are also waves and northwards it is unexplored surfing territory
My guess is PiRights in Somalia... But, I have my doubts that Rip Curl would have Fanning go anywhere near Somalia. My other guesses are a wave in the Caribbean that was already pegged as a secret spot years ago (benny's), or somewhere in Western Sahara?
Very doubtful as well they will take those risks to bring Mick+filming crew in infested pirates waters. Also it will need a major swell event to get this size. Although water can be warm end of August/September in Western Sahara, same with the swell size, more chances it would happen during winter?
So you are totally sure it's not Pirights? It can't be West coast Africa because of the water temp. I think Rip Curl would take the chance to go to Somalia if the swell was good enough.
The 6 min clip is awesome but would like to see a 30 min raw clip of the whole trip. I haven't seen enough of Mick since he took 2016 off. I wanna see more!
Austin Murphy my guess is its up the central to northern coast of Africa because all other continents have been scoured and laid claim plus the fact he's in trunks means close to the Equator. Unless it's some obscure reef pass in between the Mentawais and Maldives, most spots have been discovered. Makes me want to search out my Google Earth spots!
So right. Fanning is amazing switch rider. Many videos show him ripping while riding goofy. This is just a little jab at Slater's wave pool vid, which was a right, so they flipped this footage. It's probably not recent footage though since the water is a little cold for boardies and this isn't prime season for SW Africa. Everything else lines up: perfect wave-pool-like tubes, water color, desert backdrop, random guy deucing on the beach...
Mirages in Makran desert Pakistan or Pirights in Somalia period. Dangerous, bugger-all tourists mick must have had his military escort on tap. Highly-unlikely one's even gonna be granted a visa to the volatile Somalia so i'm banking on the Pakistan. It was surfed by a few south african boogies 15 years ago.
"Crosses a border and into another ocean..." and references to garden of Eden in the article...maybe fake clues but sounds like Middle East and Yemen or Oman fit the border crossing and 2 ocean clues.
rattle snake
king gizzard's song totally suits the vibe!!

It's Kirra back before humans and mick is a time traveler
He threw the dump story to throw us off⚡️🚀☄️🤙
Good wave. Great swell. Incredible conditions. Perfect editing.
Perfection and 3x time world champion having a blast... ALL ALONE... Good to see that Heaven is still a place on earth 👍😊 Keep it up Rip Curl... That's the real dream 👏👏👏
Yewwww thanks Tanguy!
holy wow. what a man. humble, incredible athlete... his connection with the ocean is transcendent. great wsl finale Eugene. you rock. can't wait to see what the next chapter holds ;)
Amazing. somewhere close to the tropics, either west or east Africa. Damn.
good find. great production. mick is rad. well done. now, let us have some of it.
No words, that's an insane wave! Sand bottom too .... get in!
Wow hope you guys realize how blessed you are!!!
Great POV footage! What a wave.
Reminds me so much of Endless Summer, when they find that little beach, with the perfect curls, all day, every day. (Super sad if you watch the follow-up doc they did a decade ago, or so--and you see how built out and industrialized that once empty, pristine beach has become.)
It is good no one is out because he can't drop in on any one like he does at snapper
Forget JBay. This wave is the REAL Tube Machine! What!?! Great rides
Of course Kepa is going to tell everyone that this is not the spot he discovered! lol
Those last minutes of the video... omg.
got a few sandy bottom barrels at home in Santa Cruz today but would've killed for the warmth & length of the kegs in the vid. so sick

The best comment at the beginning: "Assume the position"I agree with most here, this is probably in Africa somewhere.
Sun rises in the east, its warm and if someone is taking a dump on the beach its 3rd world. East africa
I thought the same thing mick is apparently getting early morning sessions where yo can clearly see the sun rising on the ocean, so that leaves mexico out of the picture, do yo think it could possibly be somewhere in west africa? Or its all cold water there?
or the gold coast

It's Mozambique, Jordy Smith was here before!Fanning rules!!!!!!
Its all speed management and barrel navigation
I'm from Mauritania, and this looks like it's in Nouakchott which is the capital of Mauritania or Nouadhibou, another coastal city.
thats not Nouakchott, never, i'm surfing Mauritania since 2011 ando Nouakchott specially and theres no wave like that.
Not Even Nouadhibou

What about the spot in Africa from The Endless Summer? Perfect waist to chest high right that broke next to a desert. This could be there just on a bigger day?
were is it! were is this place!!!!!
Thanks for video keep going 🤠 greeting from Morocco*
where is itttttt!???
trop bien
some aussie island some where on the east coast
Haha, that wave is crazy. Amazing planet, Earth is. I'm guessing west coast of North Africa.
I think the west coast of Africa would be too cold for boardshorts anytime of the year, perhaps east coast.
yeah - reckon you're right - just a long stretch of coastline to discover!
No, this is probably Namibia. Skeleton Bay.
+Dc Stop saying "Namibia, Skeleton Bay" in every comment, Skeleton Bay is a left, this one is a right so it's impossible. Have a good day. :P
super sensacional..
Mimizan Plage, FR.
Peniche Supertubos, Portugal?
*Let's find it fam!*
Ho Stevie! Just south of PB!🌊☀
WOW mick!

Trevor smith probably yes, water is really warm in Winter and the weather is always good 😑
Trevor smith haha
no wetsuits = no chance
Seb Beasant same thing in germany bru, just the waves are worse than in ireland
Nah I surf without wetsuits in the summer and autumn
can you least tell us what continent/ocean this wave is in
I'm thinking Mozambique
Water looks too warm for the west coast of Africa.
Yep, I've surfed in Mozambique and I also thought it had that feel. I'd say it's likely to be east coast Africa. Mostly lefts on the west coast, but who knows. If it was a north swell it could be W Africa too. Great vid!
Don't think so, mate. The water in Mozambique is pretty blue and most of those sand-points over there aren't exactly secret spots.
Nate p peeps do love taking dumps on the beach here...
So, so sick
Inhaca, Mozambique
Did anyone else hear "rattle snake" in the song the whole time 😂
its new Smyrna Beach, Florida, (you're welcome)
thomas hathaway how do you know
Shawn Kenny wins the golden ticket! Been there, it's surreal.
South of Morocco or Mauritania!! i'm a Moroccan local surfer.
That wave appear in the movie " In god hands" for sure is east Africa
Moçambique?
So gnarly
It's a break called pirights in Somalia. No point in keeping it a secret because you'd have to have a hired personal Navy just to get you there much like Rip Curl did.
Good call
Plus the sketchy situation w/ pirates...
I think I know where this is... if it's where I think rip curl has balls to take mick and the crew there
Maybe Angola
King gizzard and the wizard lizard !
Reckon you need to be a pretty seriously good at tube riding to make many of these... pro level only.
what is the truck play ?
Rattlesnake by King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard
Africa hahaha, Mick is from the Gold Coast that is where this is filmed, Rip Curl paid the Gold Coast City Council to " lease " Kirra point for the day, secret is out!
Moçambique!
looks like mozambique
correct.
water too murky. mozam is mostly crystal clear
er, wrong.
actually on a second look I agree wholeheartedly. It ain't barra. This points on the Atlantic side...way way North. That's all I'm saying. And it will NEVER be crowded.
There's a wave that looks just like this in the movie "strange rumblings in Shangri la" found in Mozambique
When Micks says some guy was taking a dump on the beach i figured lanka... When i 1st went there late 80"s (never had anything this good), beautiful beaches, some beach breaks, and each beach had a section for the locals to dump.
i reckon Mauritania
I think you're right. Kepa Acero did a video about that spot. Looks very similar.
also the music in the background has sounds from mauritania. xD
yeeess I think it's mauritania
Probably in the same area though. I've heard some rumblings in the surf community that people have been surfing it for years but it's just a pain in the ass to get there. Plus very dangerous and turbulent/poor area.
Patrick Dumas kepa !
Love the opening track, the waves are bad either. Especially 2:40
Yeah Mick well deserved mate! Now tell us where lol 😁
I know where it is. It's Lindamar, Pacifica, right where the Taco Bell :P
Could be the Great Australian Bite! It certainly ISN'T Lindamar, Pacifica! Haha!
Water temps in the the bite is like 15-16 degrees maximum - it looks like Yallingup - but it's also cold water so not sure cause no wetties - I wanna go that's all I know.
Na Aussie Bite leads straight onto Antarctica he'd probably be wearing a wetty
100% definitely isn't
Bahahaha I wish!
It's in Mauritania I found it
this is SOMALIA, no more controversy, north Somalia. there are right-breaking waves like this from Mozambique northwards... We work in Benguerra Island and Bazaruto Archipelago and there are also waves and northwards it is unexplored surfing territory

WHERE THE HELL IS THAT ? ... please... :D
what camera are they using
Where?? 🤓
leomount I hope they dont reveal it. It's time to return to how it used to be before Instacrowd
FREEDOMEDIA if they didn't want it to be found they shouldn't have released a damn video of it. now there are 300000 people who want to find it.
Everyone knows its Morro Bay California! Secret spot, they photoshopped the Rock out of every clip!
As i said it in other commentaries, This is Skeleton bay - Namibia. I google it "Mick fanning The Snake" because a wasn't sure and i confirmed.
This break is Cat Bay on Philip Island, Australia. I've surfed it many times.
Oh yeah
super super bello bello bello
Nature saw what Kelly built in Texas and wasn't impressed.
"chest high perfect runners"..... fuck i would vote for Trump to get this...
The 6 min clip is awesome but would like to see a 30 min raw clip of the whole trip. I haven't seen enough of Mick since he took 2016 off. I wanna see more!
where do yall think this is?

West coast Africa, exposed to North Atlantic swells, Western Sahara, Mauritania?. If this trip just happened, that coast would make sense.
where do guys still take dumps on the beach where the surf is like this?
Probably Namibia. Skeleton Bay.
Ghana
all good. you can work it out .
Central Oman
Fake. Mike is surfing switch stance because he's an ET, this is Skeleton Bay and the video is reversed sideways.
His name is Mick and he surfs natural does even look like skeleton bay no seals
João Pedro this is not skeleton coast
it wouldn't be skeleton bay because its cold as there and hes wearing bored shorts
Chris Turiano so r u
unbeliveable but it's in france !
Panama
Mirages in Makran desert Pakistan or Pirights in Somalia period. Dangerous, bugger-all tourists mick must have had his military escort on tap. Highly-unlikely one's even gonna be granted a visa to the volatile Somalia so i'm banking on the Pakistan. It was surfed by a few south african boogies 15 years ago.
Looks almost as good as Slater's wave
"Crosses a border and into another ocean..." and references to garden of Eden in the article...maybe fake clues but sounds like Middle East and Yemen or Oman fit the border crossing and 2 ocean clues.
The wave does not cross a border, buts its very close:/
This is in Mozambique
