His voice is different gravy in this period, this clip is great but tiny dancer on the old grey whistle test and border song have sustained his status despite virtually (not quite) being crap for the last 40 years The really great singers lose something as they get older and it’s a similar thing but not vibrant out as tuneful rod is the same - amazing in the same period
This is one of Elton John' greatest songs and it was never a hit. There are so many songs out there that the larger public has never heard. Nancy and Ann picked a fabulous song to cover and they did a masterful job.
Nancy singing lead vocals and picking that guitar to this classic song - with Ann singing background and harmonies while chewing gum - it just doesn’t get any better than that.
Good to see Nancy get some vocal time, she's probably the most underrated vocalist in rock. Sure Ann is the powerhouse but Nancy's just awesome in her own style.
I play a little guitar. What Nancy is doing on this song with a 12 String is phenomenal. I couldn’t even attempt this song. Throw in the fact that she’s singing lead ..... this is “next level”.
“ And I thank the lord theres people out there like you . I thank the lord there’s people out there like you “. Gets me every time , don’t know where I’d be without certain people in my life . Amazing song and amazing cover ! My favorite Elton John song hands down
Not many people realize what a fine voice Nancy has. Unless you pay close attention to the intricate harmonies these ladies have put together over the decades!
One of Elton John’s gems, not heard that much on the radio. I always thought he sang it perfectly, but this version just blows me away! Can’t believe the amazing vocals and guitar playing by Nancy Wilson! It almost feels like there is a band in the shadows but it looks like it’s all her playing and singing, while Ann Wilson is backing her. Just simply too beautiful! And Nancy looking gorgeous too! Amazingly talented sisters! :)
I've always loved this Elton John song. One of my favorites by him. And now, I hear this cover and love it too! Nancy really delivered the goods here! 💙
I wish Nancy would sing more songs . Such untapped potential & painfully underrated. Such a beautiful voice , no autotune here folks this is the real deal.
Ann is one of the best female singers ever, but, Nancy's voice is unique and wonderful in its own right and she did an excellent job playing and singing EJ's song.
I liked how Ann looked at her little sis at the end like I’m so proud of you, just magical it’s a toss up on who harmonizes better between these lovely ladies and CSNY !
Absolutely stunning cover by the Wilson sisters. I believe they sang it in remembrance of those lost in the then recent 9/11 Twin Towers terrorist attacks. "But unless they see the sky, but they can't and that is why, they know not if it's dark outside or light" means so much more when you know that.
I have never heard this before...I don't know how I missed it. My favorite Elton John song taken by the immensely talented Wilson sisters and they make it their own. I love everything about this cover...Nancy's beautiful picking on the 12 string her soulful lead vocal and that soaring harmony provided by Ann. This is what makes a great cover...adapting a song to your own style...respecting the original but not copying it.
Nancy must be a Bernie Taupin fan, like many of us. Bernie wrote "These Dreams" as well, which was a huge Heart hit and Nancy did the vocals. The lyrics are beautiful in both of those songs, and these 2 girls can sing them better than most. Close to my favourite Elton song too, but I'm a fan of a lot of his work. Particularly the earlier music.
You cant expect for anyone to better Elton, he was only a kid when he performed this, and of of course, they werent trying, they are so good, they did a just purely fabulous guitar along with this, I love it so much. I have read comments about how, "they did it better" You dont get it, they are honouring Elton and us all, by showing us a real wonderfull take on this song, Thank You Girls, it is very special, loved it..
Anyone who says Nancy Wilson is underrated as a vocalist, just has not paid attention. Anne's interviews over the year complimenting her sister's vocals are not hard to find. Not to mention the rock icons around the world who have acknowledged Nancy Wilsons incredible voice.
True musicians to the core, Thank you Nancy and Ann, followed you since your begining in the late 70's. Best wishes to you and your families. Lt. Wm j Bronkala. US Army ret.
What a gorgeous performance. Nancy has a beautiful set of pipes also. Two extraordinarily talented sisters. Love this version and concert. Nancy was married to Cameron Crowe. Elton John version is on Almost Famous film soundtrack. 2000. About a young Crowe writing for Rolling Stone magazine at age 15. Nancy did the score I believe. Love this. 😍😍😍
OMG! It is all too easy to forget what an amazing voice Nancy has, until you hear her in songs like these. And the harmonies - oh the harmonies are glorious!
that song made my girlfriend cry with tears of real life the way it should have always been sung. Nance what a beautiful song that was made for my girlfriend. She adored it and always will. She's a lot like the both of you. A real jokester and one of the most compassionate person like the two of you.
Nancy Wilson on lead vocals for this Elton masterpiece.....It was a Grand Slam out of the park paying tribute to NYC shortly after 911.....Well done, very well done...
I just cant get enough of this version of a very underrated song!!!" Not just pretty words" but a magical and transformed in such deft, brilliant hands. You go girls!
Stunning, just stunning, sublime vocals and the 12 string in Nancy's hands just gave me goosebumps, there can be no better version of this beautiful song.
..and thankfully I was fortunate enough to catch this tour in NYC in July 2002 at the Beacon Theater. I cried like a baby when they did this song for us..... ::shrug::::
Man o man Elton should be very pleased that the Wilson girls took one of his and Taupins' greatest set of lyrics of all time and brought it to the next generation
A cover that's out of this world. Something to cherish forever. Now something quite the opposite. You can scroll down to the earliest comments (plenty enough to make anyone sick) OR you can read the latest comments. So depressing to realize there's so little difference.
As great a voice as Ann has, it amazes me to hear Nancy's voice is just as good or maybe even better. I had only ever heard her sing These Dreams but this shows she has some serious chops as well.
I want to like this again. There should be a button for such occasions.
I know Ann is in a league of her own...but Nancy NAILED THIS!!!
I crushed on Nancy Wilson as 14 year old boy in 1976. I am still in love with her today. This song is one of the many, many reasons why.
These ladies will never be out done, period!!! A fan from the start!!!
Superb work by Nancy, with help from the world's most overqualified backup singer.
Love that!💜✌
Not for an Ann backup singer haha but yeah this voice deserves more attention
Ain't that the truth!😂
His voice is different gravy in this period, this clip is great but tiny dancer on the old grey whistle test and border song have sustained his status despite virtually (not quite) being crap for the last 40 years

A 12 string no less😉
I don’t know why more artist don’t play this song…..it’s a masterpiece…..even EJ doesn’t play it enough…..
Go listen to Judith Durham sing this!
Nice cover.
What can i say....Heart is number 1 in my books. I love when the girls have moments like this. ABSOLUTE GREATNESS💝
Absolutely wonderful, one of my favourite Elton John songs and easily the best interpretation of it that I have ever heard
They took this masterpiece, flipped it on its head, spun it around and shot it off to Jupiter. Then again, it is Ann and Nancy Wilson after all.
Good to see Nancy get some vocal time, she's probably the most underrated vocalist in rock. Sure Ann is the powerhouse but Nancy's just awesome in her own style.
+tteague7 They make a great team, no point is deciding who is "better"...they sound wonderful together, period.
Don't forget she is really easy on the eyes as well.
tteague7 I agree on Nancy's voice. perhaps she is too shy and doesn't mind taking a backseat to Ann
"Easy on the eyes"?
That's like Noah saying "I think it might rain".
@@tmee1512 Yeah, because that's the most important thing.....*sarcasm*.... 🙄
What a voice Nancy has. The way she sings this too. Elton would be so proud
Elton still could be proud, and probably is. Sir Elton John is still alive, 'ya know...
I play a little guitar. What Nancy is doing on this song with a 12 String is phenomenal. I couldn’t even attempt this song. Throw in the fact that she’s singing lead ..... this is “next level”.
Really great 12 string work! She's playing the hell out of those strings! And with perfect vocal intonation!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Nancy is an exceptional guitarist.
If you play 'a little guitar', isn't that really a ukulele?
Her first love is the acoustic guitar.
“ And I thank the lord theres people out there like you . I thank the lord there’s people out there like you “. Gets me every time , don’t know where I’d be without certain people in my life . Amazing song and amazing cover ! My favorite Elton John song hands down
One of Elton's most haunting beautiful songs performed here with soul passion and respect
Nancy’s amazing vocal range on full display here.
Ladies and Gentleman,
The 1st Sisters of Rock and Roll,
Ann and Nancy Wilson!
Nancy taking the lead here.
No song brings tears to my eyes like Nancy and her 12 string guitar does on this song!!
Not many people realize what a fine voice Nancy has. Unless you pay close attention to the intricate harmonies these ladies have put together over the decades!
When they harmonize it’s sounds like one person on a double track. Beautiful sisters
One of Elton John’s gems, not heard that much on the radio. I always thought he sang it perfectly, but this version just blows me away! Betting Bernie got a chill hearing this version. This as much as anything Elton ever did, was Taupin's song.
It’s probably Taupin’s lyrical masterpiece. Someone Saved My Life Tonight is incredible too. Probably saved as many lives as CPR.
Ann is one of the best female singers ever, but, Nancy's voice is unique and wonderful in its own right and she did an excellent job playing and singing EJ's song.
My song
That look they exchange at the end of the song is priceless.
Her voice is so honest it gives the song a very crisp and haunting edge.
For some reason this song makes tears stream down my face
Right there with you
Kimberlee Sherman me too
I still say Elton’s first five albums are his best work. This is by far his best song.
Nancy's voice is mesmerizing in this Amazing cover tune. They could not have done it any better!!! ♥
They sooo do this song justice. Bernie Taupin, You're awesome!!!!!
I wrote it, not Taupin
Stunning show, I was there amazing unplugged concert
Can’t ever get enough of their harmonies 💞
Especially on Dog and Butterfly. Absolutely angelic.
She kills this song..
and this song rings deep with me... So I can care less if you hate it... It is a song that I will take with me forever..
I liked how Ann looked at her little sis at the end like I’m so proud of you, just magical it’s a toss up on who harmonizes better between these lovely ladies and CSNY !
HARMONY. HEAVEN.
Perfect harmony. Ann supporting Nancy vocals at the correct level, never overpowering her.
I saw Heart 💕 on Valentine's Day and the whole stadium was full of heart shaped balloons ❤❤❤🎉
What a great performance. Nancy is so low key that she often may not get the recognition she deserves. A true gem of a performance by both ladies.
I can never get over their beautiful harmonies. This gives me chills every time.
Awesome!!! I didn't think anyone could do this song better than Elton...but I was wrong.
I don't think I have even heard anyone cover this song before. It was beautiful with the sister's on acoustic. Bravo !!
+Jean Anderson Indigo Girls do a very nice version also.
I'll check it out. Thanks.
Love this song on twelve string!!!!!v A great song can handle almost any treatment - but twelve string really suits this tune.
Nancy is a great musician. Awesome on the 12 string and great vocalist
This truly is a gem. Nancy does a wonderful job on lead and 12-string.
Its way up there with their best efforts
They still looking young at 48 and 52
Now 2024 they are beautiful 😍
Rock and roll keeps you young.
Nancy is slinging that 12 string way down south like an electric guitar and she is immaculate.
24 people that don't know if it's dark outside or light........beautifully done ladies
Still
The best damn duo
I’m music period!
The genius of Elton performed by an equally genius sister duo.
Difficulty Level 1-10.... ELEVEN!!!
If I had to pick one word to describe...... FLAWLESS!!!
I have never heard this before...I don't know how I missed it. My favorite Elton John song taken by the immensely talented Wilson sisters and they make it their own. Love this song, as always these ladies make a great thing better...!!
It's on a live album that is out of print
There's an Indigo Girls cover of this song, also worth a listen. I love this song!
And since I wrote the storyline , which cover is first ..?
They both have such unique and beautiful voices. Amazing duo.
And I thank the Lord there's people out there like you!❤❤❤
You cant expect for anyone to better Elton, he was only a kid when he performed this, and of of course, they werent trying, they are so good, they did a just purely fabulous guitar along with this, I love it so much.

I would have no problem with this being the first song played at my funeral. (this version)
Such a sweet harmony between these two.
This is pure fucking magic! And they're still doing it to this very day. Nobody else even comes close being as good Ann and Nancy Wilson.
How about the guy that did this song.?
i will never get tired of listening too these two ladies. love them. Elton would be proud.
And My soul just lost its mind!!! Heart just showed another side of themselves...I can feel everything again
These 2 fine young ladies have a huge career ahead of them! Mwahhh for such pleasure in life!❤❤❤
I've been an Elton fan since these songs came out in the early 70s, But I have to say this is by far the best version of this song that I ever heard.
brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this. Wilson sisters are the exemplification of awesome!
Right there with on that one. Got a spare hankey??
Greg Kulig god...so very sad they are estranged. And it happened so late in their lives. I hope they can get passed it.
Oh yeah. Waterworks over here. That got me.
Anyone who says Nancy Wilson is underrated as a vocalist, just has not paid attention.
Anne's interviews over the year complimenting her sister's vocals are not hard to find.
Not to mention the rock icons around the world who have acknowledged Nancy Wilsons incredible voice.
DAM these girls can sing!!! it don"t get any better then this!
Her effortless mastery of the 12 string guitar, the voice, and harmony. All blow me away ❤
I had no idea Nancy could sing so well. This is awesome! I've always loved this song.
She was ironically actually the lead singer on their 1st #1 song, These Dreams. 😎
I love New York, I love Heart, I love Elton John !
True musicians to the core, Thank you Nancy and Ann, followed you since your begining in the late 70's. Best wishes to you and your families. Lt. Wm j Bronkala. US Army ret.
One of the best covers of all time.

Got the dvd of this concert. Never ever get tired of it
Phenomenal movie - and Kate Hudson's performance is perfection.
OMG I had never heard the Girls do an Elton John Masterpiece ....Ann and Nancy can do no wrong
That there is true Sir
OMG! It is all too easy to forget what an amazing voice Nancy has, until you hear her in songs like these. And the harmonies - oh the harmonies are glorious!
Wow. Just... Wow. They take an already beautiful song and make an equally outstanding rendition of it. 😍
that song made my girlfriend cry with tears of real life the way it should have always been sung. Nance what a beautiful song that was made for my girlfriend. She adored it and always will. She's a lot like the both of you. A real jokester and one of the most compassionate person like the two of you.
Oh my. Don't ya just love this? In every way on every level? Delicious.
Nancy Wilson on lead vocals for this Elton masterpiece.....It was a Grand Slam out of the park paying tribute to NYC shortly after 911.....Well done, very well done...
Beautiful! I don't even have the words. The performance speaks for itself.
Talent: Ann and Nancy, Bernie and Elton. Great Stuff.
I've always loved both Ann and Nancy's voices. perfect blend of notes.
+John Harper Family harmonies are magic!
I just cant get enough of this version of a very underrated song!!!" Not just pretty words" but a magical and transformed in such deft, brilliant hands. You go girls!
Me too! I'm 76 and a fan for both Elton and Heart. Beautiful and Beautiful. Thanks. Bob.
::shrug::::
Ahhhh nothing compares to the warmth of a 12 string and raw harmony. Makes the hairs on your neck stand.
That right there was a thing of beauty. Gotta love the Wilson sisters.
OH MY GOD!!! HOW AMAZING are these girls!!??? I didn’t want the song to end!!!!! Instant FAN!!!
So Gorgeous ❤
Man o man Elton should be very pleased that the Wilson girls took one of his and Taupins' greatest set of lyrics of all time and brought it to the next generation
Nicely performed version of one of my favorite EJ songs. Nancy’s voice is perfect on this.
How am I just now seeing this for the first time? Absolutely beautiful!
Same here!
WTF eh!
Had the absolute pleasure of seeing them play this live at the Chicago House of Blues in July '99, and it's stuck with me ever since.
The way Ann matches the frequency of her sister's vibrato just amazes me every time I hear it! ✌
Some of the very best music on the planet.
Being a huge Elton fan, and a huge Heart fan. This just doesn’t get any better. They sound amazing, great cover!
This song, this cover makes me cry!
I'm pretty sure Sir Elton is proud of this version. Wishes he could do it as well as the sisters of rock!
A cover that's out of this world. Something to cherish forever.
Now something quite the opposite. You can scroll down to the earliest comments (plenty enough to make anyone sick) OR you can read the latest comments. So depressing to realize there's so little difference.
People suck sometimes (a lot of the time, actually)
Wow. Just stunningly beautiful.
And the song was good too!!! 😂
As great a voice as Ann has, it amazes me to hear Nancy's voice is just as good or maybe even better. I had only ever heard her sing These Dreams but this shows she has some serious chops as well.
One of the most beautiful songs EVER- even by EJs standards. Excellent cover!
This is one of the highlights of a magnificent DVD. Great show, great band, great pair of extremely talented sisters.
Holy fing vocals batman, wow that sounded great!
Holy Tighty Whities Batman....they did Elton and Bernie proud!
