What I love about your videos. Its very obvious you leaned from doing alot of these and show in a very practical way! One thing I was wondering. I have this engine with the stripped out head bolts in rear. I wanted to try to use a longer head bolt with slightly bigger threads. I know this is a short cut but not interested in putting more time/money in my 200K Camry. Is there a way to move the rear cam out of the way so you can replace one or more head bolts on the rear side of the top of the head? Thank You!
for what I understand you are trying to avoid the timing chain cover correct? you can but very very careful, rotate the engine till you see a little bit of slack or loose on the chain n leave it there, mark the links and teeth on cam gears and chain so you dont get lost at the time of installing every thing back, secure camshafts and carnkshaft so the engine wont move at all, remove the chain tensioner and proceed to do the rest, but dont recommend to do it like this since once you have stripped off bolts the antifreeze goes in the cylinder #4 and if you leave it like that the engine might get stuck or seize so be carful, thanks for sharing with US very appreciated.
@@JM-AUTO Thanks! This car has already outlived all expectations. I wanted to try to swap the rear head bolts for head bolts for longer slightly bigger threads, (a few ebay sellers claim these longer bolts use fresh threads the original ones did not).. I will zip tie the chain to sprockets as well. Much thanks for the advise!
I’m currently changing out the timing chain on my daughter’s 08 Camry with a 2.4 and I’m kinda curious what would happen if you tried installing the vvt cam gear in the locked position? Even though I do have a new one on the way, after watching this video I decided to go and try installing the old one that I removed in the locked position thinking it might not go in but it slid right in 🤷🏽♂️
hi and thanks for watching, it will fit both ways locked n unlocked until now no problem, if you installed it in the lock position the problem will come later on with correlation or timing over codes, hope this helps.
Hello wonderful video. I changed my intake gear on my 2009 corolla and i guess it was in the locked position now I'm getting a p0012 code pls how do i correct it.
if you didn;t have this code before then may be you installed it in in the lock position, only way would be redoing it and reinstalling it the right way so the code goes a way.
@@JM-AUTO pls I just want to know the after unlocking it and installing it back do I need to lock it that's after installing it. I would appreciate if you give me a full explanation on installing it. Just when to unlock and when to lock it.. thanks 🙏
yes most likely you are going to get correlation codes, you have to do the proccess and that is installing it unlocked n lock it at the right moment when you have already made the entire set up, if you need help you can email me n I will send you the instructons. thanks for the time on the channel.
Hi I have a 2007 Toyota camry 2.4 has p0335 code car crank no start replace the crankshaft sensor with oem denso sensor still crank no start I plugged ob2 scanner when cranking the engine has rpm signal what should be the problem I’m lost is the timing jumped? Need advice please thanks in advance
if rpm are read by the scanner, with the scanner check if cams are sincronized, check fuel and spark, if fuel, spark and cams are sincronized then probably time if off. so many vehicles do this: when they crank but they cant start the the pcm sets codes for crank or cam sensors even though the problem is not the crank or cam sensors, n that is because they cant start so the pcm sets all those codes, if car is missing fuel then pcm wont set codes for that, instead you might get crank or cam sensors codes.
So unlock and lock when installing. Correct? I am getting p0340 all my timing marks are in. Could this be vvti cam. Very hard starting and misfire. Sounds like exhaust backfire Rattle on start Or just the cam sensor? Your answer is really appreciated
I have toyota Estima year 2012 model ACR50,after replacing head gasket and piston ring all The colour timing mark are correct, but after 3km of driving ,i am having a code of p0012(intake cam over retarded)pls help?
Hi i have a Toyota camry 2003 has a code P0012 Description: Camshaft Position 'A' - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1), i have replaced the camshaft sensor bought a new one still given same error code, please any advise. Thanks
sorry I mixed to different answers for to different People n I sent you the wrong answer for the wrong code so I want to apologize with you, normally this code means some thing is wrong with the oil control valve (variable valve timing solenoid) so check that in that intake side behind the engine, there are ways to test it.
The best video on this out there thank you
your visit to this channel is very appreciated.
Job well done. Simple and straightforward. God bless you

@@JM-AUTO it definitely helped, thank you for the reply and for this video, I’ll most certainly install it unlocked just like your video 👊🏽
Excelente. Muchas gracias por su tiempo. Buen video!
gracias gracias deveras aprecio mucho eso.
Do you have a video of this procedure on a 2ARFE engine? The 2.5 that went into the Scion tC and Camry.
Hi, unfortunately I dont have a video for this particular job. Im sorry for the inconvenience.

Question with a cylinder head job
Must you unlock then lock.
Or do you have to put chain on in willl unlock position?
you have to unlock it at the time of installing it because you already took it out, then lock it before installing the timing chain.
So unlock and lock when installing.
Correct?
I am getting p0340 all my timing marks are in.
Could this be vvti cam.
Very hard starting and misfire.
Sounds like exhaust backfire
Rattle on start
Or just the cam sensor?
Your answer is really appreciated
bad vvti cam gears will cause mis, rattle on start, and cam position sensor codes.
Do you have to unlock the camshaft timing gear when replacing the timing chain ? It’s already locked. What’s the point of unlocking it ?
I’m reusing the Sam sprocket
ty sir
Exelente
gracias Amigo.

Engine is not on time, probably did not unlock and lock the cam gear or bad timing setting.

@JM-AUTO Thanks for D response...unfortunately I have replaced the VVT Solenoid I test Run the car, the Code came back after replacement.
