    Best Stones album. Imagine if the Stones made Beggars, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, then Exile. And then died in a plane crash in 1972. There would a world religion around this holy canon. Mick Taylor really took the Stones to a whole other scale of sound. Beyond mere Rock n Roll Music - yet still this is the perfect soundtrack for hittin some fat rails :-)

    this was The Stones at their VERY best and VERY peak. There was a certain chemistry between Mick Taylor and Keith Richards that created a beautiful cacophony of blistering hard rock, hard blues and dirty groovy swagger. They were pure in your face hard rock. That chemistry pushed Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman to play with more power and precision. Simply beautiful. Once Mr. Taylor left The Stones the magic disappeared. This was THE definitive Stones lineup.

      @scotthamel3074 Год назад

      I wholeheartedly agree and anyone who doesn't doesn't really know rock and roll, imho. BUT and this is a BIG but, let's give Woodie his props eh? It DID take me quite a long time to come around to this POV but i really believe that he has been a more than adequate replacement. Sure his playing is not as sinuos or sensuous as MT but he is still a fine rock and roll guitarist, and an excellent steel player. It is just his misfortune to have to replace one of the top 3 or 4 lead players in all of Rock, combined with the fact that at the time there really could be no serious argument for anyone other Mick, Keith and the boys already being the greatest band in the world and coming off a string of 4 or 5 of the finest recorded ever made. As the saying goes: a hard act to follow. But now every year, and every show, Ronnie grows a little more on me, and for that I'm thankful. Rock on Ronnie. And don't let the bastards grind ya down.

    This is Keith on lead guitar, not Mick Taylor, and this only became clear when this extended version was released. The irrefutable proof is some incredible, rapid rhythm guitar flourishes Mick Taylor throws in which require manual dexterity Richards lacks. This song therefore involves a role reversal of the usual guitar duties from the Mick Taylor era. This alone makes the song fascinating. Beyond this, the song is an amazing rhythm juggernaut.

      You are indeed correct sir. And, since you seem well versed in who is playing what guitar for the Stones i have a question for you. I assume you know " Hand of Fate" from "Black and Blue," yes? Ok, so, there are three shots on that - the first is without a doubt Wayne Perkins, as is the final, which is basically the outro. They are both fuckin brilliant! The middle, second solo is also good, but to my ear, doesn't seem quite on par with the first and third leading me to believe that it may not be mr. Perkins, but rather our old friend Mr. Richards. It just has a different sound. So can you, or anyone out there, DEFINITELY say which one of the two players it is? Please do let me know. It's something that i have been curious about for decades. Thx.

      But its KRs dirty, nasty playing full of spunk and sweat and groove thats at the heart of the RS sound. Taylor is decoration. Great player but make no mistake where the groove comes from.

      Zackly! Mick Taylor played lights out but Keith came up with the hooks & riffs He also wrote the musical arrangements for all of their songs. The tracks like "Time Waits for No One" where Taylor provided the beautiful solo guitar & Nicky Hopkins showed his greatness on the keys, didn't give credit to them, but to Keith. I wonder who truly wrote that.

    The mood of that era, called out for this song and the Leo Lion in Jagger finally came to the fore. From that LP onwards the Rolling Stones never looked back, it was the strongest musical statement at that time. I know, I was there.

      Listen at 2:36 for example thats exactly what Taylor is playing on the live versions, plus all the other details.. It's easier for Taylor to play like Keith than the other way around. Get over it ;)

    For those who think this is better than the original album version: there's a difference between "raw" and undeveloped. This is a rehearsal tape for a song in the process of being developed. This kind of rehearsal "footage" exists for a lot of the released songs from the seventies up to Tattoo You.

    • @cameroncooper4175
      @cameroncooper4175 8 лет назад

      This is a great take - it's a 'session', not a 'record' ... more like a live version really. The Stones strove to capture that live feel in the studio, and probably did it better than anyone else. Then, with a lot of cutting and pasting and some overdubbing, they'd strip it down and tidy it up into a proper record, but retaining a lot of that loose and live feel in the process... I believe this approach had a lot to do with their enormous success.

    • @gpc31
      @gpc31 8 лет назад

      Does this take have Wyman or Richards? I'll give it a closer listen but would appreciate any info. I know Richards played base on the album version.

    There's a reason for this, and there's a reason for that. And this point it's easy listening to outtakes from the Stones heyday. This is just fabulous, you got to mix it you got to fix it!

  • @davidcohen1424
    @davidcohen1424 8 лет назад +43

    instrumentally this version is definitely raw and simply pure awesome Rock N Roll. But its obvious that at this time they didn't have all the lyrics together as Mick is improvising and winging it in this version. With the finished and released lyrics and this version instrumentally? This would have been probably better than the released version.

    • @counterstriving
      @counterstriving 8 лет назад +3

      +David Cohen I agree except I think the music (guitars) needed more work too, and of course the vocal. This is clearly some kind of rehearsal tape.
