What St. Paul states is that God gives sinners up to practices that will harm their bodies: "God gave them up to dishonorable passions," that is, to same-sex sexual relationships. Such relationships are not only dishonorable but harmful to the body. And in spite of medicine taken to reduce the harmful effects of homosexuality, the bodily effects remain a societal problem. They are "contrary to nature" and therefore lead to infection and anguish. Why does God give them up to these passions? Paul says that it is because they have ignored God and His good plan for our lives.
