    I’m new to your channel, just watched your video w/ Orion Kelly. Not only am I autistic, & have ADHD, but I also have a genetic disorder in which I produce faulty collagen (hEDS) and that causes me an incredible amount of physical pain. It’s taken years of gaslighting and personal research to get a diagnosis and somewhat appropriate pain treatment, but watching this video, it’s impossible for me to not see the parallels between the discussions about hierarchy, the desire for freedom, autism and PAIN MANAGEMENT. Everything outside of “normal” is classified as aberrant behavior, and when you’re in more pain than a normal person, or it takes more medication to treat your pain than “normal”, it’s like walking a tightrope. I’m viewed as an addict or manipulative, or “pill seeking”. And truly, all I want to do is live my life with less suffering.
    This is a great video. Thanks for sharing, & allowing me to be here. 💜👍🏻✌🏻

      Thank you for your comments, and welcome! I was diagnosed with ADHD at the start of the year, so I’m an AuDHDer.
      It’s appalling that you have experienced such negative judgements because you simply want to reduce your suffering. I know it’s an obvious comparison to make, but imagine if people repeatedly told a person who needs a wheelchair to just use their legs and stop complaining?!
      It's sad that neurodivergent people are gaslit because ‘normal’ people can’t bear the thought that people are different to them and that they might need to adjust *their* mode of being to accommodate others. It's supremely arrogant and lazy to assume that everyone must be the same. I don’t care if anyone is autistic, neurotypical, or whatever - as long as they are kind and willing to learn and adjust their ways so that everyone is included.

    This video reminded me of my childhood occasional rebellion against my Dad. I loved him very much but I often thought he could be too harsh with my little brother. It seemed unfair when too much of his emphasis was put on the molding of my brother into a manly sort of person, when my brother was still just a little kid. So when Dad would get angry with him for crying, I would defend my brother and get punished. I hated getting punished, but when I would see unfair treatment I just Had to say something against it. I could Not stop myself. Good video👍🏻

    I got in trouble so many times because of that ! I still do sometimes... This was important to explain, even more for relatives or teachers, or even friends (not even talking about work...) You are very good at explaining, I wish I had this talent. I could write a book about many topics, but when I have to talk to people, I'm a disaster. I'm old enough to not really care anymore, which makes things easier...

    Hello.
    I just saw your video with Orion Kelly and felt compelled to leave a comment on your channel. I really enjoy the way you speak. It is neutral and comforting to me. I am not sure if I am autistic or not (I might simply be really gay and be neurodivergent in that way) but I just wanted to say that I appreciate your being, you being here and being who you are. So to sum it up: you have made me feel a little bit better about it all. Thank you for that. Sincerely. Another person.

I'm trying not to simply repeat what so many other more talented and eloquent people have already said on RUclips, though there will inevitably be some overlap because I share traits with many other autistic people. I'm just presenting my version of autism in the hope that it connects with other autists and educates people who may have a stereotyped view of autism (like I did before I realised I'm autistic).

    Yeah i for sure relate to seeing people as equals. I remember as a child feeling like our family should b a democracy instead of a dictatorship, which i felt it was with my dad in charge and nobody else having much say. And now i am a parent and i find it very confusing, i have to be in charge now, and i don't know how, i never have been in charge of anything before. I don't have much for leadership skills. I'm fine when I'm alone but to have to b a leader of others is very uncomfortable, so much pressure

      I love this: 'I’m utterly incapable to take the easy road and yet I complain to myself about how hard it is!' Me too! Integrity is doing the right thing when no one's looking. So, instead of doing the easy thing by dropping litter, I would rather carry it around until I find a bin, even if it means carrying the litter for miles. That's a terrible metaphor, but it hopefully makes the point!

    Great video ! This, of course, is where U.S. Court systems most clash with Autistic people because their social heirarchies constitute Autism discrimination. I do a lot of research on evolution due to the evolutionary Autism genes, and your video make me wonder if the Harrapan civilization where everyone was seen as equal was an Autistic population.

    • @AutisticNotAlien
      @AutisticNotAlien  16 дней назад +2

      Thank you. I hadn’t heard of the Harrapan civilisation. For me, rules have to make sense. I really struggle with the idea that laws and morality are different things. Laws are given a veneer of objectivity and fairness, whereas a little investigation reveals that they’re often tools to maintain inequality.

      Thank you very much for your comments. I admire you for being a teacher - I’m a failed one! Isn’t it odd that we bring up children to treat people fairly and consistently, and yet adulthood is often a scary, capitalist maze in which ‘dog eat dog’ is deemed an acceptable attitude? Just pointing these things out is enough to rattle those who really benefit from hierarchies.

    I have always loved the story about the emperors new clothes. It points out exactly what I have always found so wrong with society. Like, people who suddenly couldn't be friends with me anymore, just because society decided I was "too weird", even though we liked each other and enjoyed each other's company. They didn't want the shame of being my friend because apparently, it would put them lower in the hierarchy and ruin their future somehow. Later on I have felt that I had to do the same to others, but I have always regretted it, because my weirdest friends were always the most interesting to be around, the ones with whom I found it the easiest to connect. I have always watched the hierarchies from the outside, not knowing my place in it, but probably being put right down at the bottom most of the time by others, who didn't see me as valuable, just odd and irritating. Probably lost a lot of jobs and other opportunities because of it, or been seen as untrustworthy because my body language just isn't quite right. I've been fired and ostracized many, many, many times, without understanding why or getting a proper explanation, been completely puzzled by it, I didn't think I did anything wrong.

    • @AutisticNotAlien
      @AutisticNotAlien  16 дней назад +2

      It's a great story, isn’t it? I have met so many ‘emperors’. I’m sorry you have lost jobs and opportunities through no fault of your own. Hierarchies are often a façade, and pointing that out is another reason to exclude us and make us feel like we’re the ones in the wrong. I just want everyone to get along and be appreciated. It enrages me that people get satisfaction from fake superiority and their cruel behaviour. We’re all human. Just be kind - it’s not difficult.

    I understand hierarchies of ideas and it's the idea that interests me. It doesn't matter what the title is of the person who expressed the idea.
    I think other autistic people think the same way. So in a sense I think autistic people understand hierarchies very well while most other people don't. Hierarcies based on old credentials doesn't impress me too much when someone else comes up with a better conclusion.

      Yay, someone else who likes John Clare (and presumably doesn't like the enclosures)! Although I mentioned the legislation, enclosure really began in the days of William the Conqueror. There's a village a few miles from me which is named after one of his barons. Many extremely wealth people in the UK are descendants of William's barons. Land inequality is the root cause of so many modern problems. John Clare is a great way into all this history. Reading his poetry (and his prose) feels like an act of trespass because the reality of the brutality of enclosure is deliberately kept out of mainstream education.

My experience of watching most people is that they want somebody with “more authority” to make it so they don’t have to try to figure out what they are supposed to do next. They want the illusion of freedom without needing to put any effort into it, and they will happily follow anybody who gives them that.
